I know some people won’t agree, but I would rather us not spend any more money this year and just try to generate some income for the future. We still have a good enough team and manager to challenge, and last seasons performances shouldn’t overshadow the fact that we won the league the previous year!

{Ed0666's Note - more than some people wouldn’t agree with you Miz. We have to compete every year. Although an overhaul of the squad is expected in 2022 we have to still not write this season off.

Miz me old mucka that is certainly not the Liverpool way. Every season we fight for every trophy now that is the Liverpool way YNWA.

2.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 05:13:55
Well said Barry, Miz your comments are shocking this current squad only needs one or two tweaks and we need to continue getting rid of the driftwood.
This squad (with another striker) can win trophies and I would rather bring in a couple of players each summer than go for a complete overhaul in one summer as it would take time to bed in.

3.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 06:33:00
It’s shocking to think this current team as it is couldn’t win the league this season? Bizarre.

4.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 07:46:39
OP, you are aware that this is not an either/ or thing and that you can spend money on the players we actually need while at the same time, generate income in the same summer? We have been doing that for the past 4 years or so, after all. We need to get the players we need in this season to be able to fully compete every season, end of.

I know that you feel like the team as it is, can compete for trophies and there is some truth to that. However, we have to learn the lessons from last season as in this team was decimated by so many injuries in midfield that even Minamino had to play in CM. That must NOT happen this season. The attack needs one more body in as well. It is what it is.

{Ed001's Note - surely the return of Elliott is one extra body in one of those positions?}

5.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 08:27:21
What last season proved to me was that the squad was a little bit threadbare outside the first 11. Not bringing in a centre back was an accident waiting to happen. I think Elliott is going to be an exciting and excellent addition to the squad after his season at Blackburn, but I think we are one quality centre midfielder short (Saul or Bissouma) . I think we can live without buying a forward as Jota, Firmino, Elliott, Minamino and Ox should be ok while the AFCON is on. Also, Kelleher has to be number two, not Adrian.

6.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 08:33:26
What is shocking is our players being called driftwood by our own fans. What driftwood are you referring to?
Phillips?
Origi?
Shaqiri?

7.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 08:48:05
Thunderbird this current team bar Konate didn't win the league last season. Will he be the difference in reigning in Man City? I highly doubt it.

8.) 07 Aug 2021

One 1st team quality midfielder to replace Gini is a priority IMO - it’s not for squad depth as we have plenty of decent midfielders on the bench, but all of them have a slight question mark against them, whether because of injury history (Ox), form (Keira), age (Milner) or youth (Jones) . One of these may come through and blow us all away this season, but it’s a risk to not have someone who’s clearly got the capacity to challenge for the first team on a consistent basis.

In the forwards, I think a shiny new transfer is only a nice to have, with Firmino, Mane, Salah and Jota all first team qualify, so we have at least one player able to change the game off the bench. Minamino is a reasonably safe alternative, Elliott an exciting young option, and Ox/ Shapiro can also play on the wing too. I’d rather we kept our powder dry to be able to make a serious move for a Firmino/ Salah/ Mane replacement if one of them ends up leaving next season.

07 Aug 2021 09:03:48
Do people forget we were pretty comfortably top before our squad got cut in half with injuries? Without anyone else we will push City close and I wouldn't be surprised at all if we won it. But also still plenty of time left and I still think we will see a midfielder join.

{Ed025's Note - yeah rick, you were the only team who had injuries last season, its just not fair mate..

10.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 09:05:52
Driftwood sounds better then dead wood! Same 14/ 15 players dragging us through time after time!
Relying on the same players to make a return but only to have a sore fart and be injured again! They are drift wood players and need gating big wages and contributing Notting but smiles and a few nice rondos in Training!
Get rid and stop the we won the league with him clap!

11.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 09:10:09
Rudder Konate alone may not but combined with VVD, Gomez being back and an injury free season for Jota may take us closer.

12.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 09:14:44
This is by far the best team we’ve had in my life time and part of me is worried that when this group of lads eventually move on with the manager, we will go back to the days of regularly finishing outside the top 4. So for me it must be a win now mentality.

This is the premier league those that don’t spend generally get left behind.

After last season’s decision to not buy players when needed, it cost us the season and it could have been a lot worse.

13.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 09:22:49
Driftwood as in Millar, Awoniyi, Grujic, Wilson etc all had zero chance of ever being first team regulars and most barely warmed the bench or where sent out on loan season after season.
As for Shaqiri and Origi, respect both of them as players, Origi scored some great goals against Barca, Spurs, The Blues and he deserves credit for that, Shaqiri still is a decent player and in any market outside of this C.V. would be sold for £25m easy.
Hope that clears things up inside your Jelly Head there 6GS 👍🏻.

07 Aug 2021 10:07:27
Tbh referring to any player as driftwood or deadwood is disrespectful and ridiculous you can say a player needs to be gone without bringing up these terms.

{Ed025's Note - i prefer "dutch elm" kloppers.. :)

15.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 10:34:22
People are forgetting how good our first team is without injuries. VVD at the back alongside Konate not only pushes the team further forward but also allows Robbo and Trent to fly down the wings. That in turn allows Thiago to play his game in the opposition half and not worry about defending as Fab guards that area of the pitch. Hendo is back in the team and either Bissouma or Saul takes us to that other level.

Salah will do what Salah does and that's 20+ goals. People are also sleeping on Jota. He got injured when he was on a scoring spree but I will make a bold statement in that if he stays injury free he could hit the 15-20+ goal barrier mark and im talking about the premiership mind. Lastly, if Mane returns to anything close to his old self then that’s a no signing, coupled with the introduction of Elliot we should be challenging. Don’t get caught up with City and Chelsea splashing the cash that happen before and we walked the league just focus on our game.

16.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 10:46:12
I agree. I honestly can't see where the worthwhile players are to being in without significant exits. And I'm algoods with it.

17.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 11:24:17
ed025, considering it was your bunch of ham fisted 'players' whom took out 2 of our truly world class player for the season (Thiago eventually came good), i'd keep quiet about our injuries last season. I'd like to see how Everton would handle loosing 2 of their world cl. oh never mind haha.

{Ed025's Note - not many of our team are wimps john, can you imagine half of these prima ballerina,s playing against the likes of tommy smith or ron yeats?, it seems like ACL injuries only started 3 years ago and the pussies take a year to recover mate..

18.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 11:36:52
Well, they basically are fine tuned engines now aren't they. Old Ron and Tommy would be be standing still watching ghosts run past them these days, the speed of the game.

19.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 11:28:48
I think we could do with a 2 more players coming in but we do need to get rid of extra players first Origi Shaq and Nat Phillips need to be moved on and if Possible Minamino as well. We will be a lot better than last year if we can keep VVD fit for the season he will be like a new signing as will Gomez and even Ox if he stays fit for the season. let's just Hope Everton plan for the season is not to take are players out again ed0025 lol.

{Ed025's Note - they need to man up a bit grino, some of them have a week out with split ends mate.. :)

20.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 11:28:52
Never said it wasn't fair Ed mate. But it was statistically improbable to suffer them all in a short period. I was simply pointing it out as people seem to think that this squad has no chance of competing with City when it clearly does. Don't think it's fair on you putting words in my mouth but life hasn't been fair to you being an Ev so all's fair.

{Ed025's Note - thats why you need a good squad rick, your first team can compete with city, chelsea and united, unfortunately your bench is of a similar quality to that of norwich mate..

21.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 12:26:39
Sure we say that all the time ed025, then Ed02 calls us idiots for thinking good players are going to come to sit on the bench.

22.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 12:28:18
Fair enough Ed although Norwich is a bit far ;) I just don't see the point in being pessimistic going into a season since we've won a CL and PL all that's changed really is konate for lovren and Tiago for Gini both upgrades imo.
What's your thoughts for the season anyway I would have you maybe in around 7/ 8 maybe a good cup run if rafas tactical nous is still there?

{Ed025's Note - i would say 10th for us rick, its a consolidation season i feel with a new manager and very little to spend mate..

23.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 12:39:26
Love your response about Smith and Yeats Ed. Perfect response really. All of this rolling around like they've been shot when you run by someone is about as pussified as it gets. Embarassing really.

{Ed025's Note - it really is stone, i preferred it when men were men mate...and women did,nt cost very much.. :)

24.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 12:50:58
Still not sure why everyone is assuming that this is the final squad we will go into the season with when there’s still the business end of the transfer window to go. We’re clearly just waiting on one or two more players to leave so we aren’t paying people wages for nothing all season. My money would be on Bissouma and Bowen and once you add them to that squad it looks a lot healthier. We signed Jota and Thiago after the season had already started last year and i expect us to do the same here.

25.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 14:48:08
AW, that’s the part I did not get either. Literally nobody has said that be it in the media or by the club in any way. Those saying it are just using it to rile up the fan base and clearly it is working. If the club thought we needed nobody else then why on earth would we be in for the players we are in for? Oh, let me guess: It’s just a smoke screen by the owners to punk the fans with. Yeah, this is how far some people can actually think.

As for Ed25 saying we need a good squad, thanks man cos clearly Klopp didn’t know that till you brought it up. Oh and talking about needing good squads, City has the best and deepest squad in the PL YET they lost ONE centre back for just 4 months in the season and they capitulated and this, NOT during a C.V. with no fans in the stadium. Therefore, your premise about having a good squad at all cost guarantees you nothing either.

26.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 16:04:24
Completely agree with you guys about challenging, but we haven’t lost any quality! Last season was odd, we started and finished really well and with a little bit of luck we could claim the league again this season.

My comment wasn’t to say let’s have an overhaul next year but more making the point to not just buy someone for the sake of it this year. The only player I would love is Saul as I think he’s the only midfielder that we’re interested in that would genuinely improve us.

27.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 17:34:11
Miz, no problem. I fully agree that we have a team that can challenge as it stands right now. You gave your opinion and I respect that and can actually see your point.

Some of us just think we need a couple more signings this season to cover the attack and midfield and that is all we will need for this season and frankly, subsequent seasons esp since majority of the core will still be here.

28.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 20:34:55
Ha! Women always cost a lot for me. When you're short and ugly, you have to pay a little bit more. But, seriously, when I played, you weren't required to wear shin guards and I wore the bruised and bloody shins like a badge of honor. But then again, I had to walk to school 5 miles up hill in the snow both ways.

{Ed025's Note - your not the boy off the hovis adverts are you stone.. :)

29.) 07 Aug 2021
07 Aug 2021 22:05:33
You never know Ed, and I'll never tell.

{Ed025's Note - love it mate..
