Changing the tactics back to what they where and a good old fashioned kick up the @rse from Klopp to a few players will be much more beneficial than a transfer right now.
Gakpo was pants the other night, another midfielder will be exactly the same without a change in tactics.

What tactics are u looking to change. We get out run nearly every game. In anything other that a one off ie Man City I am convinced we can’t press anymore.

Agree with Mark. What tactics are people referring here to change? Not a single poster could explain what change would they want to enforce! Copying Ed01’s opinion is what happening here.
Non stop pressing won’t work anymore we simply have no legs for that!

This midfield trying to gegenpress ? imagine!
It literally just got bullied off ex Brighton manager Adam Lallana.

1985 why you laying into Gakpo, get off the guys back he as had no time to bed in, he as come into a team not performing, new signings should be able to bed in over a period of time and it makes it easier if the team is performing, it's very hard forca new signings to come into a team that's poor, you should be questioning Salah not Gakpo.

Mighty reds, Salah would be one of those lined up for one of them kicks.
It’s clear the teams tactics have changed and it’s backfired.
Heads have dropped now as well.
And you can press with what we have, Fabinho is only 29, plenty of life left in them legs, this mess we have now is not doing him any favours at all.
I saw an interview with Klopp just before saying back to basics. Should have done that whilst the World Cup was on and then let the players who went catch up once back.
This more “controlled” way of playing doesn’t suit us, just smash and grab, get it done nice and early and ride it out.

Spot on mikey, I go the games and it’s glaring obvious.
You simple don’t get the full picture on the telly.

I don’t think we can handle the full monty now either, though there’s no reason why a happy medium can’t be found.
But if the opposition really ups the ante, it’s causing problems where once it played right into our hands.

100% Mikey.

16 Jan 2023 21:13:26
Are you saying this midfield have it in them to out work and press the opposition Drogie? At home against the bottom sides but away absolutely no chance for me.

10.) 16 Jan 2023
16 Jan 2023 21:15:02
The main point is we all know Klopp isn’t an idiot so if they could outwork and press the opposition don’t you think we would be doing it by now? Or does Klopp just like losing.

11.) 16 Jan 2023
16 Jan 2023 21:24:34
If Fabinho's legs haven't gone then it's a bigger concern because that would instead indicate a lack of effort or dare i say it, a lack of heart. He's losing duels he had a 5 yard head start in. I think the only player in the league who turns slower than him is Maguire. It's staggering how poor Fab's been this season. Not to mention saddening because he was up there with the best in the world 18 months ago.

12.) 16 Jan 2023
16 Jan 2023 21:57:03
Lots of things to change tactically;
• ridiculous high line with no pressure on ball
• midfielders pressing their back line whilst others don’t - no cohesion (reminds of Man Utd pressing us last season in the 4-0)
• moving the back much faster
• using the width more with the fullbacks
• etc

There are lots of things we could change tactically. Whether any of them would bring about a win against Chelsea is another thing. But we have to change something!

Fabs form seems to be the biggest nose dive but it’s right across the board bar the keeper.
Such an important position as well, it’s no wonder the whole team looks lost when he’s miles off.

14.) 16 Jan 2023
16 Jan 2023 22:23:18
Fabs is the biggest drop off for me as well. Turns like an oil tanker then just sticks out a token leg. If people think he can be part of the press you are not watching the same games as me. I think he will be dropped at the weekend.

15.) 16 Jan 2023
16 Jan 2023 22:57:19
Possibly some of Fabs' problem is that he was a right back (that was his normal position with Monaco) who could play defensive midfield when we bought him, and we converted him to defensive mid full time.

So his only real extensive experience of playing as a midfielder is with us as part of 3 man midfield where it was the job of the two players either side of him to cover space, and when we didn't have the ball, he could concentrate on filling any gaps in the defense, cutting off passing lanes and engaging opposition players who tried to break past the midfield line centrally. Now he's effectively part of a midfield two (cos even when we start with 3 on paper, one gets forward or moves out to the right wing all the time) and doesn't have previous experience of doing that. He has more space to cover and harder decisions to make.

He may simply not be adaptable enough to make the change through tactical knowledge and experience. And doesn't have enough raw physicality to make up for the difference by running a lot.

16 Jan 2023 23:47:25
No stop pressing? We never did that before either. If that is really all you saw then you weren’t watching.

17.) 17 Jan 2023
16 Jan 2023 23:09:14
Mark, as ed001 mentioned, you don’t need young legs if the press is conducted correctly and as a unit, starting from the front.

Our set up is like chalk and cheese now mate. I sit on the kop, but my son likes to sit near the half way line, if I can get him a ticket. Believe me pal, it’s even more glaringly obvious when I’m sat there.

18.) 17 Jan 2023
17 Jan 2023 01:32:47
I think Fab's problem is that he's not getting help from the rest of the squad anymore so he is being constantly overrun. The forwards have stopped pressing the opposition defenders, giving them loads of time and space to pick their pass. And I would think that this is a tactical switch, not because they are lazy since it's consistent between the three or them and across games.

In the past, we have all three (Mane, Firmino, and Salah) pressing and harrying the defenders which makes it easier for our midfielders. Now, because they have stopped, our midfielders are horribly exposed and I don't think buying new players is the only solution to this.

17 Jan 2023 03:37:14
Fabinho’s father died back in Summer 2021 and his wife has just had a child, so plenty of big stuff going on his life away from football.
I don’t know about anyone else but by the end of last season, I was ready for a break from the footy, so momentous was it.
But it seemed like absolutely no time at all until this new season started.
Even as a viewer, I did not start the season with relish.
I wonder if the players and staff felt that lack of freshness and eagerness that usually greets a new campaign?

20.) 17 Jan 2023
17 Jan 2023 06:45:26
Changing the tactics will help. We try to play a much more possession based game now, hence you see slower tempo, side and backwards passing with less emphasis on the press. This was probably implemented to try and help conserve energy whilst going for four trophies last season. To say we can’t press is rubbish, we can press but you must know when, what situations and player positions are before doing it. Any part of those three elements missing you will be cut open, just like Brighton showed. Understanding where you need to be with and without the ball is a key part of the press and football tactics in general. Klopp has to work out why the boys can’t follow the instruction, changing the tactics is one thing he can and must do, but the players need to understand what is being asked of them. Those who don’t get it or don’t want to get it will be moved on. One thing we don’t want to do is change the manager, I dread to think what would happen if we did. Klopp deserves time to sort it, end of.

21.) 17 Jan 2023
17 Jan 2023 07:12:45
If we can still press as a unit and Klopp is not doing it what does that make Klopp? Imo we can’t do it with this midfield absolutely no chance. I have seen milk turn quicker. We must have the least Mobile midfield in the league. Our press would be very easy to cut though no matter how it’s implemented. Big changes tonight, maybe some other players can step up.

22.) 17 Jan 2023
17 Jan 2023 07:35:10
Fabinho has never been the most mobile player. I think some of you guys must be watching someone else. Saying that I do agree with Drogie and Mikey. It’s not just a midfield that press. Done as a unit I think would be easier on our midfield.

23.) 17 Jan 2023
17 Jan 2023 07:54:01
Of course done as a unit it would make it easier but still not possible. Everyone knows Fabs wasn’t the most mobile but now he is even less mobile, no one can deny that. Added to Hendo being less mobile and it not being Thiago’s game, there’s no chance. Too many weak links.

I still want to know if we can suddenly do it and we haven’t been what does that make Klopp?

24.) 17 Jan 2023
17 Jan 2023 11:25:53
Nothing will ever work if we keep allowing ourselves to get bullied, outrun and outworked in games. Absolutely, nothing. Tactics can compensate for a distinct lack of effort and desire to compete just to win a simple tackle.

Nemanja Matic went from being World Class in 2017 to being a shell of his former self. In 2017, Matic was 29 years old.

There is precedent in this position, when your legs go, they decline fast.
