Genuine question for the Ed's or anyone who may know more but also may sound stupid but

See during the transfer window do the current squad have any inside knowledge of the transfer dealings like for example with the Barcola stuff do key members of the team know what's happening behind the scenes are just see what's being reported? Or would say Ekitike know more due to being compatriots with him know a little more as he could be getting info from Barcola himself?

https://www.rangersrumours.co.uk/images/Ed0041.png avatar{Ed0666's Note - I would be incredulous if Ekitike didn’t know as much as if not more than Hughes about the Barcola transfer as they are Ek & Barcola are mates. But I’ve just read what I’ve written and Cilla Black probably knows more about the Barcola transfer than Hughes.

You're right about Cilla, Ed. What's it all about?

All this transfer flukes and nonsense, must be hard for players to concentrate on the weekend.

It's their job but still when you are this woeful in market and there are so many things being said about current squad it would definitely effect the morale of the team and around the club.

The players live in a rather insular world, so I seriously doubt they'll be strolling out on to the pitch prior to kick off worrying about transfers.

2

26 Aug 2026 18:45:41
Don't know why. It's one of the best squads we've ever had.

1

26 Aug 2026 19:04:17
Nonsense.

I'm getting tired of writing this, but I'm bored. Last year's squad was the best we've ever had, and we'd have won the league but for the pesky bald fraud.

Now I know that FM is a contrarian. I could name at least four squads we've had from this century that are better than this. Laughable posts.

Well we can all certainly say this hasn't been a dull last few days on here.

Who do we actually think at this point we end up with?

I'm going for Barcola and Mbaye as I just think its typical us to prat about with various other signings only to go back to the one we had basically locked in a while ago.

Interested to here thoughts of Eds and your good selves.

They make sense and I hope we can get Camara too, Monaco need to sell, so a transfer is doable.

Minteh - Brighton = No.

Barcola - PSG = overpriced.

Sarr - Crystal Palace = We hate you so no.

Soon to be “Scott” - Bournemouth = Seriously, Richard.

September - lfc statement “We were prepared to act if the right opportunity arose but sometimes the market can be difficult.”

November a millions miles from the top - Iraola “Yes, I am happy with the squad.”

I await the local schill journo stories, who seem to have zero insider knowledge on anything but are given free rein to deliver pro FSG stories.

"Despite attempting to make some moves, the club felt the current squad were capable of challenging on all fronts.

They'll return to potential prospects in January although the summer 2037 seems more likely as we know, the January market can be challenging. Expect big moves to be made then."

Aside from last summer, b*******.

And, in the real world, football isn't about transfers, it's about getting the best out of what you have and adding quality when the opportunity arises. Everyone knows we need a RW and pace in the final third, and some people think we need a CM.

We have RW options and CM options, and have pace in some positions. I'd like more, but think the players we have brought in so far strengthen the squad in terms of quality, but accept we need depth.

Jari, we should be challenging for titles year on year, this squad isn't cut out for it.

Think Barcola, Mbaye and Camara will sign.
Viva le France.

What about the young lad from Wolves?
Is he injured?
Surely 40/50 mill would be enough to get him.
We were linked to him last season.

I'm sitting here patiently waiting for Ewan Ferguson to join us. He was going to be a star...

Barcelona up to their necks in debt, bidding €100 million for players whilst Liverpool, after a huge investment, are penny pinching. Liverpool will not finish in the CL places with the current squad and this statement can be bookmarked.

Barca are the last club I'd want us to be run like!

26 Aug 2026 18:19:32
Spending to get yourself out of debt is a dangerous thing in this market at this time.

1

26 Aug 2026 18:34:58
Penny pinching while reportedly close to signing Barcola for over £100 million, and still looking to buy other players.

It's National 'One thought Wednesday', @Flash. Those playing can only ever have one thought in their heads at any given time.

As opposed to brainiac here.

The club has gone from a position of hiring a 2x German league title winning manager, to a 1x Dutch title winning manager, to a head coach who finished 3 points behind us when we accumulated our lowest points total in the PL since Jurgen’s first season.

Now, I’m not digging out AI here as he could turn out to be absolutely fantastic and I’ll gladly support him until such time (hopefully it doesn’t come) where here’s not cutting the mustard.

My point is - However well our club is run over the past 10 seasons we’ve been incredibly lucky - as FSG have made some rank decisions and employed some absolute dross when, since 18/19 we should have been going from strength to strength.

All of us on here can see the areas that the first team and squad needed strengthening in - We’ve let players leave on a free. We should have got tied down to contracts way before - Edwards appears to have had his head up his ass about the multi club model and forgot we are LFC, and Hughes, well, currently the bloke shouldn’t be able to scout and buy a bag of sweets never mind football players.

There have been some poor decisions made over numerous years that see is where we are now. If FSG aren’t planning a review of how we got here, then they should be getting one in the diary.

Sir Bob - I for one would like to understand how you move a player on if they don't sign a new contract? I have been thinking about this since Trent moved to Real Madrid. i'm pretty sure it's not that simple to say "sign or we sell you". The player has a contract that has to be honoured by both parties.

You could insert a break clause easily, but you can't insert a "you must sign or leave" clause. Players agents talk to clubs all the time, players decide what path to take probably 18 months in advance. I don't know what the answer is and I'm interested in what the Ed's and others on the site think.

Imagine Klopp got the backing and investment that Slot did, where we'd be now?!

0

26 Aug 2026 17:14:29
Well it’s good to see Hughes is in full acceptance, he’s leaving with his reputation in the garbage, so he repays us with garbage negotiation tactics for garbage players.

The only positive I’m taking from all this is Iraola coming in, and slot going, if nothing else, we might actually have a fit squad by the middle of the season…

I’m treating this like the mess Klopp took over from Rodgers but with better players.

I've never once jumped the gun, but Richard Hughes seems to be out of his depth. It's bordering embarrassing for him, after last year's spend at will approach.
