Trent in this era is an excellent talent, but he needs to score more goals from right back to be up with the very best of right backs of LFC.
Chris Lawler was one of the first overlapping attacking full backs who scored 61 goals from right back and did not take pens or free kicks and also in Lawler's time you could tackle neck high.
Then we had Phil Neal, another attacking full back and goal scorer of 60 goals but 38 were pens, so Trent needs to up his goals but he is one hell of a footballer.

Odd stick to beat Trent with goals? You could argue it the other way in assists? Trent has more then both combined in way less games all 3 are exceptional players and I want Trent to stay because if he does he’ll break every defensive record in terms of goals and assists truly do believe that, but if he does go to Real Madrid you might end up having the most decorated English footballer in history along side Jude by the time there careers end.

Yeah all we need is a fullback from yesteryear to replace Trent when he goes.

Chris Lalwler is one of my favourite Liverpool players ever but trying to compare full backs in the 1960’s / 70’s and 2020s is pointless - their roles are completely different.
The idea of saying x is the best full back because he has scored the most goals is odd. Besides you’d have to say that Alan Kennedy would be a good shout as our only fb to score in two European Cup finals, which surpasses the other three mentioned.

Peter Crouch would have been a legend in the 60’s/ 70’s avoiding those neck high tackles.

So now fullbacks are supposed to be judged by goals?

Lawlers game was the same as Trents get down the line cross the ball in and he got in to scoring positions but lawler put them away. WDW do you read the post properly? because i wasnt saying Lawler and Neal were better full backs but they were better goal scores from right back and Trent needed to score more goals if he wants to be classed as world class . You seem to think that Trent is the first attacking full back that the club has had we were playing that way under shankly in the 60s you kids think you have just invented football and we played with three up front Thompson St john Hunt then Highway Keagan Toshack then Rush Dalglish Robertson so football is just the same today as it was yesterday the diffrence is todays football is full of cheats and divers.

I would say assists are more important than goals if you’re looking at a right backs attacking stats. Goals are great and all but you’re not really expecting them from Trent, it’s not really his job.

@iwillbered Chris Lawler was a defender, his game was to defend, which he did very, very well. He could play a ball into the box but he had wingers in front of him who, back in the day, provided the ammunition from out wide for the centre forwards. I have been watching Liverpool, since the start of the 60’s so I don’t really class myself as a youngster these days, and I don’t recall us playing with three up front in the 60s or 70s. Both Peter Thomson and Steve Heighway were wingers.
