This post is going to make me seem like a dinosaur, but our "great" 83/ 84 title winning side lost 6 games and finished with 80 points. Was there when we won it at Notts County and I can't remember hearing anyone say how lucky we were and how fortunate that everyone else was rubbish.
Roll forward 40 years and the sense of entitlement with some so called fans. The Internet has opened up so many beautiful things, but we are also paying a price in so many other aspects.

Agree Rome
Glad I can look bank and still think that was one of our best ever teams just glad we never had social media then.

Always time to bash the fans eh, Rome?
It's possible to elated about the points haul and position, while being disappointed with the meek performances since the end of February.
And, I am pretty sure none of the old teams missed out on titles by 1 measly point to a sports washing project with record points hauls. Add to that the way we lost the two CL finals vs Madrid, the fanbase has some pretty fresh scars.
We will celebrate no20 through the summer. But, we all know there's a lot of work to do too.

Yep, I think some of our ‘fans’ these days expect a football version of the Harlem Globetrotters each game.
13 Apr 2025 20:53:19
I remember that day, Rome, even though I wasn't there. I think the family I got a lift off to home games went but I didn't.
Back then winning the League was normal and I don't think I really appreciated them even when the trophy was paraded at Anfield. Experiencing it again- albeit on TV now- has made me more appreciative.
Maybe that's why I don't get some fans moaning when we are making history. Social media brings more of it home to us.

FPF, I absolutely agree there is work to be done in the summer, I've said that on here many times. I've moaned about players and performances throughout the season, but I like to think I keep a sense of perspective, unless I'm banging on about Nunez! I'm just, like many others, cherishing the moment, because none of us know how long we'll have to wait for the next one.

115 reasons why City haven’t needed luck for the last 4 seasons.
It’s not luck over 38 games, the best team in the land wins the league.
{Ed025's Note - absolutely Ron..

What's the stronger feeling, though, Pelican?
Elation or disappointment? Serious question, btw.
13 Apr 2025 21:12:15
Agree Rome.
13 Apr 2025 21:21:44
What has happened to just being positive about our team, rather than analysing and looking for faults.
13 Apr 2025 21:34:25
Rigsby, I went to the Notts County game, on the train, with my now wife of 37 years. It wasn't all ticket so we just turned up and paid on the turnstile. One of Souness's last games. How times have changed. I make it sound like we ate cardboard to fend off hunger. Apologies for boring people about the olden days.
13 Apr 2025 21:58:01
It’s absolutely true Rome. Winning the league is a great achievement. It’s not really the olden days, more like the middle aged days! Ed 025 knows more than most about the joys of 80’s football.
{Ed025's Note - i remember them days well Mark, you could tackle in football, see a doctor and pay with cash mate.. :)
13 Apr 2025 22:13:48
They were great times, Rome. I would stand on The Kop, just turn up and pay on the day, mostly. I didn't do many aways, though; just local ones like United, City and I remember going to Blackburn in the FA Cup.
Yeah, Souness left in 84 and the start of the following season was a time I really enjoyed. We struggled because we missed Souness badly and it was different going to Anfield not knowing we were going to win. It was strangely enjoyable.
Obviously things settled down, Jan Molby found his feet and normal service was resumed.
Things changed for me after that season, though, and I stopped going to games. I had other things on and Heysel didn't help. I lost interest for a few years and apart from a handful of games I'm an armchair supporter now. I wouldn't swap those days, though.
Well, except for Istanbul and the 4-0 against Barcelona ?.

Go back and watch matches from the 70s and 80s. The exciting and dynamic rollercoaster matches were few and far between because we just passed other teams to death. No one remembers that because we won all the time. What do people remember now? The winning. As I keep saying, who cares if we play good or bad - even at £65 a match. As long as we win, it shouldn't matter.
13 Apr 2025 22:36:41
Everton also had an exceptional team in the mid 80s under Howard Kendall.
{Ed025's Note - it was great when we were the best 2 teams in the country 007..
13 Apr 2025 23:42:14
It was, Ed025.
Both sets of fans singing "Merseyside" and "are you watching Manchester" in unison. I knew the Everton team almost as well as the Liverpool one back then.
{Ed025's Note - yeah great times Rigsby mate..

@Rome as somebody who was also at the Notts County match and the ‘good old days’ I’m one for just enjoying the match. I’m tempted to say that in 40 years time anyone who can either think back to the 2020’s will remember the wins - League, CL etc and won’t overanalyse the achievements.
That said, social media has already smashed down the walls between data, information and knowledge and we live in a time of ‘experts’ who just can’t quite be bothered with applying for a PL manager / head coach job, so God knows where the descendant of the current social media has got to by 2065. Happily I won’t be here to experience it.
14 Apr 2025 06:28:25
What a great thread, takes me back to the good old days and makes you realise there was life before the PL, social media and VAR.
14 Apr 2025 08:17:51
When i listen to my son, nearly 20, saying only the second time ti see us win the league, it just makes me think back how lucky we were to have the team, the managers and coaches, and yes, us the fans. Fntastic times. Goosebumps as im typing, we took so much for granted. As others have said, que up, pay cash, in you go, home and away. To see one of the greatest teams play. Y. N. W. A.

Spot on WDW.
There's more armchair experts than "normal fans" now.
14 Apr 2025 11:40:54
We don't have to go back on man city titles it is out of hands what happened we have to look forward and build a team that wins premier league over and over gain like we had in years gone by but us reds have to be patience but we have the basis now so keep believing YNWA.

Steviep62 don't forget the steak and kidney pies at half time kept you warm on the kop in winter time . £ 4.00 to get in at the turnstiles. I can remember my first game 64/ 65 season v Leeds in the boys pen.
