Sorry if this has been discussed before, but what do you guys think the plan will be with Mama and Ali? Mama will no doubt want to be first choice in the very near future, Ali is one of the best in the world (kinda like the cech and courtois situation) . Would we really let Ali go on a free after the Trent saga? What do you think of Mama, do you think he will be ready to step up?

My view, Mama will take over the Kelleher role this season - there’s been a few reports with quotes from him saying he is willing to fight for his position.
Next season we’ll see.
Ali going on a free? Maybe, he would have been here for 10 years and would be 34 - happy to let him go back home to finish his career.

I think mama will be loaned out or sold. Sorry I really don't think he has a futjr.

I really don't see him having a future with us given how poor he is in the build up. He is okay kicking it long and he has superb reflexes/ typically palms the ball out of danger when he isn't able to catch it, but as an extra man on the ball he isn't good.

Ali is number 1 and will be for a while yet I’d say. Is Mama joining the squad next season? Strange signing for me. Ali probably has another 4 to 5 years at the top. Best keeper in the world by a country mile.

That means we have the best keeper in the world as first choice and the best keeper from the euros as back up.
Why do people find it strange that we want a decent back up keeper?
I find it strange that people find it strange.

I hope Ali stays for a good while yet but I don’t think he will.

TIR, I think Ali is feeling the lure of home, especially as his family back home have been without his father recently. I think that’s why we bought Mama and Pecsi.

With all of the goalkeeper movement it’s clear (to me anyway) there’s an agreement in place to allow alli to move after a years extension to let the two newbies bed in and alli to return to Brazil. Fair play if he’s set it up for longer term.
09 Jun 2025 08:54:20
He’s missed a lot of games so we need a very good no. 2.

Mama does Kevin role and covers Ali’s injuries.

“I talk to athletes who have made this move to return, some have had good experiences, others not, ”
“Each one will have their own experience, but I want to return, especially to Inter (nacional) . I don’t know when it will happen, but I still want to do it at a high level. That’s what I have planned. ” - Alisson Becker
He wants to go back whilst he's still at his best. We have an option to extend his deal until 2027, and I think we'll do exactly that. Then next summer there is a decision to make whether we sell him at a low fee out of respect for what he's done for us, or tell him he needs to run his contract out. After all he's done for us, I'd let him leave for a reasonable fee next summer if he wants to, or run his contract down until 2027 if he'd prefer that.

Ali wants to go home to finish his career as mk says at a high level maybe mama coming in this season as no2 is so he can gel within the squad and Ali can go at the end of the season.
{Ed077's Note - no chance Ali goes back to Brazil next summer. I would think no chance

I'm with you Ed077, in the same article that MK has quoted from he also says that he has 1 year left, but the club has the option to extend for a further year. He expects the club to do that and would be happy for that to happen.
My strong feeling is that he will return to Brazil on a free, with our blessing, in summer 2027.
09 Jun 2025 11:42:54
I'd like him to stay until 2027 Zedd. I cannot see a world where he drops off enough to warrant pushing him out. I'd just say he's earned the right for us to respect his wishes If he would rather go. Hopefully he'll stick around another couple of years at least though!

Yeah, his words in that interview seemed to suggest he was happy to stay for 2 years - there seems to be a lot of mutual respect between him and the club which can only be good for future players wanting to join.
It is quite tricky to separate the "money at all cost" FIFA (or Champ Manager in my case! ) attitude from the one that includes human feelings and emotions too.
I respect how we have handled player relationships, from letting Kelleher leave for a relatively low fee so he could pick where he went, to the apparent agreement with Alisson.
Ultimately it will work in our favour.

Ali does tend to get injured now and again. So.

Ali does tend to get injured now and again. So a quality back ready to step in is safeguarding the now and the future. By all accounts the young cub we signed is also not too shabby. So we have our backup keepers sorted. Good planning all round.
