People seem to be a little bit confused on whether Ibou is learning Spanish for a possible move. As someone who has students age 14-18 from France, Italy and currently Germany I can confirm they all speak extremely good English, and the French speak Spanish, the Italians speak Spanish and the Germans speak Spanish too all from a young age in school. He doesn't need to learn it, he already knows it.

just to add in current education as well in the UK. you end up taking a few languages my step brother is 17 and speaks English, Spanish, a little bit of French and can understand some Mandarin its mandatory these days.
My Wife lived in Spain for 8 years from the age 8-16 and she was taught Spanish, English, Italian just seems to be the normal for other countries to learn more then one language.

Indeed, ArneSlotsBarber. The French in general (there are exceptions) don't learn other languages. Same with Americans.

My comment has 22 likes. I’m not sure whether that’s people liking the comment or agreeing that I talk nonsense.
Probably the latter ?.

I'm currently in France on holiday. I can confirm most people I have spoken to speak English, and even understand Scottish. They don't like to talk to anyone who isn't french, but they can! Apparently the staff at Disneyland also speak Spanish pretty well.

My mate who is french canadian and visits france frequently, reckons he is constantly going to cafes where the staff prefer you to speak english (or perhaps american as they tip better? ) . Or it could be that the french still look down on canadians and so ignore him?
