Im confused (again)
How does it work, a club agrees on the release fee . but doesn't want to pay it.

Don’t believe everything you read on clickbait sites.
These sites post what gets the most clicks, not the truth.
There aren’t minute by minute updates on transfers so they have to post some bollox or another to keep their click numbers high.
We’ll all soon see what our squad looks like for 25/ 26.
{Ed001's Note - this is where I went wrong. I should have just pumped out minute by minute updates saying absolutely nothing, would have been so much easier than sitting through hours of footage of some of these players!}

Ed001, there’s still time, and now you have AI to help you!
This time next year, Rodney, we’ll be millionaires!
{Ed001's Note - AI? Oh god no, I seen the Terminator films!}

BREAKING NEWS! Ekitike makes huge decision in his transfer saga between Liverpool and Newcastle.
I can confirm, through my various sources, that Ekitike has unfollowed Ant and Dec. It's a huge development in this transfer saga and please keep following me to keep up to date with this move.
Make sure your subscribe and follow for the next crucial update.
Who knew when I wanted to be a sport journalist when I was younger (hopeless actually playing the sport) this would be the general level of news id be reading.
{Ed001's Note - it is very sad. It is not just sports journalism either, it is most journalism. The BBC is just gutter press now.}

If a players contract contains a release clause that states a specific fee then that is simply a fee that the club and player had agreed upon where should an offer come in that meets that valuation it would be automatically accepted by the players club. This doesn't mean that clubs wanting to but the player have to pay it. The selling club may be willing to accept less or the buying club may be willing to pay more if it means that they can have preferred payment terms. The buying club is also likely to want some of the fee to be performance based. Both clubs will want what is best for them and negotiations will ensue.
So, referring back to your initial question, it would be possible for Liverpool to agree to pay €100m for Ekitike but they may want to pay €80m guaranteed + €20m in performance related payments. (Please note that these amounts fictional and are for illustrative purposes only - any resemblance to actual persons or actual events is purely coincidental)
{Ed001's Note - I thought a release clause was when a fee was set for the player to pay up in full if he wanted to be released from his contract? That is what it is in Spain and Portugal. It is not a transfer fee or even related to it, but if the selling club doesn't sell for the fee set, they know a team can simply do what PSG did and give Neymar the cash to pay for his release.
Which brings me to another pet hate - Neymar is listed as the most expensive transfer fee ever paid, but there was no transfer fee paid by PSG. He bought out his contract at Barca.}

So true Ed. Romano made an entire career out of it. Even won a few awards for being the best "journalist" by constantly posting absolute fluff. Would have been much easier than putting in actual work.
{Ed001's Note - I don't know how he does it and is not ashamed to look in the mirror each day. I suppose counting your millions lessens the shame for some.}

You are bang on ed001 it is across the boards started with the daily fail and spread like wild fire. People judged on clicks for ad revenue rather than the weight of their opinion.
As for Romano, he has a catchphrase which drives a lot of his content. But I feel he has got worse for the 'no update' update. I've particularly noticed it this summer.
The amount I've seen from him of 'no change' or 'here we go soon' just shows it's content for algorithms rather than general engagement.
{Ed001's Note - it is such a shame, I have completely stopped reading any of it now. It should be about providing information.}

Agree with it being all journalism nowadays it is actually so hard to find just good objective breakdowns on any topic. I try to find 3 different views on things I am interested in and try make up my own mind. But that is time consuming and still not exactly easy. It is sad though that people for the most part do not realise this and will take what is in a headline as 100% factual.
18 Jul 2025 12:44:19
Apparently Romano is highest paid content creator on twitter, makes around 25p per reply no wonder he does what he does. Some posts he’s getting 10s of thousands of replies.
{Ed001's Note - he is a multi-millionaire. It is an excellent business model, so long as people don't get bored of it all.}

Shame, Ed? What's that?
{Ed001's Note - it's what Fabby Rom doesn't have.}
