On the subject of strikers, it appears our very own Darwin Nunez may very well be on the move, also.
Al Hilal have apparently made an offer for him. No mention of the fee in question, from what I can see, but looks like movement finally on this saga.
I know a few posters believe that this will be Nunez's season, that the head shaved Nunez means business, but I will honestly be thankful to see the back of him. He completely lost any faith I had in him when he decided to sulk and ignore Klopp when Klopp was giving his farewell speech in the dressing room.
Don't even get me started on his performances since he came here. A poor finisher, I can understand, but a player who doesn't try when brought on, I can not. Slot called him out for this on numerous occasions, and I am relieved that I was not the only one feeling this way.
For me, we clearly need a striker to ease the pressure off Ekitike because the lad will need time to develop and get used to the Prem. Rio looks ready to be an understudy to Gakpo at LW, but I can also understand bringing in a more ready made replacement in Fofana. Although, I do fear it will put an unnecessary blocker on Rio path into the first team.
Centre back, I have mentioned already, so won't bore you.
This season is going to be an interesting ride, to say the least. And the Newcastle match may very well turn into a first blood match at this rate. I can see Newcastle preparing to hack us down all throughout the match. Fingers crossed we have a strong referee (As if that even exists) .

I'm with you, Mango. Be glad to see the back of Nunez.

It hasn’t worked out for Darwin, I’ve no problem with the player he’s taken pelters.
A move will be good for his career and our club. It’s not a case of ‘glad to see the back of him’ more a case of ‘good luck Darwin, I hope it works out for you’.

Well said Ron. People should show more respect for our players??.

I always say, CBell, when I'm at games Nunez has my full support, along with every player who wears the liver bird on his chest. I feel free to have a pop at any player on a chat forum. Especially a player who downed tools last season.

I only heard Slot call Nunez out for it once when he missed a chance and sulked during the game. I've seen him his his all in every other game so I don't agree with the comments about him not trying and Slot calling Nunez out on several occasions. The thing that has made the guy a cult hero (albeit not a hero for the number of goals he scores) is his level of effort. Please don't try and re-write history.
The only thing letting him down is his finishing ability in such a fast paced league. He'll be great elsewhere and his record at Benfica was brilliant (similar to the guy Arsenal have just forked out a fortune for) .
We should have learnt our lesson now to not use such language about our players as you never know what might happen to them outside of the game.

There's more than just his finishing ability that is letting him down.

Very well said Brommers.
01 Aug 2025 23:50:58
Spot on, Brommers. To say that Darwin never worked hard for the team or gave his all throughout his time here is just wrong and defamatory, IMO.
That was the main reason many in the fan base including those who don't rate him, stuck by him all this time. Even Slot had defending Darwin on multiple occasions last season as well.
Let's not start whitewashing the facts just cos people want Darwin gone at all costs now. Multiple facts can coexist at the same time.

Was going to say the same Brommers. Well articulated.

He did down tools last season in the Fulham game that we lost and was rightfully called out for it. But that was the only time I remember him doing that. The reason why he has the moniker "captain chaos" was that he never stopped running and harassing the opponents.
He has not kicked on with us for a variety of reasons and I don't think he is the right fit for us moving forward. But I'd never say "good riddance" to him not say that I'd be chuffed to see the back of him. I'd have thought that the sad event that happened this past summer would also shift the mindset of some fans from using such language but I guess I thought wrong.

He downed tools against Villa, away. And it's not just his finishing. He has no football intelligence and doesn't understand the offside rule, even when he's playing out wide. Get rid.

He did, you're right, Rome. He also missed a sitter which could have won the game. He didn't even hit the target. After that game the Chaos Brigade defended him and said the chance was more difficult than it looked. It looked like a sitter to me.
He was our record transfer and our number nine and I expect a lot more than running fast and around a lot- when he's not sulking- being caught offside, wild long range shots, missing taps in and getting booked more than he does score.
I won't forget his sullenness at Klopp's last game for us because Klopp, like Slot, had the sense to drop him.
