A while ago ed001 said he was unconvinced by kerkez, based solely on today I'm starting to think that too. Good going forward but he leaves massive gaps and reacts way too late.

I said the same before we signed him, always seemed to have a bit of Alberto Moreno about him.
Honestly this gane hasn't given me much hope in either of the full backs we've signed, Frimpong is worryingly light weight for me. But i will trust Slot and the club and hope we see them grow into the team as the season goes on.

It’s amazing how people view a game. Not one mention of how bad vvd was today. He gave away a peno and god knows where he was going for the second goal, he was terrible yet everyone jumps straight on the new lad.

I thought both full backs were very good. Unbelievable going forward and sure palace got in behind a few times, but Frimpong got back everytime at ease. And between Gakpo, Szobo and Kerkez they stopped the breaks coming to anything. Virg was poor, and Salah, but its a pre season game and Virg missed the last game.

Regarding the FB situation, I am not as negative as others but I feel that our current squad and tactics need a DM more suited to protect the spaces.
Grav was very good at DM but Slot has changed the tactics for the FB and now they appear more in the final third in the half spaces or overlapping, which I don't feel suits Grav or any of our current players that can play DM for that matter.

Give him a chance. To get used to playing tier 1 football but he is crap. Looks overweight . Frimpong tho all the noise over him being short think his first ten touches was headers? I’m not arsed we lost rather win next week. Hopefully charity done well today YNWA.

Only thing I cared about for today’s game was no injuries. Some of the new lads and who played got some sharpness and fitness levels up. I don’t care about anything else to be honest, Friday is when it gets important.

Not sure you can solely blame Kerkez for our defence being so vulnerable to attack. It’s on Slot to get that right with the tools he has. To me the midfield didn't function well, missed Gravenbach, jones was poor. Dom was great going forward. Salah was a bystander most of the game, but Hugo and Wirtz impressed.
Palace had control of game towards the end so I think the FT result was fair. Penalties are called lottery so anyone can win.

VVD had been tracking Mateta for 20 minutes or so before the goal, it should have been Konates job to sweep behind VVD whenever he pushed out of the back line.
Neither he nor Kerkez tucked in when VVD did step out thus leaving that huge gap for Sarr to run through.

The difference is that Diaz always came back to help the left sided defender. Now no Diaz, no help on the left.
LFC did not know the valuable contribution of Diaz until now and soon.
We lost 3 attacking players, all settled and knew the team. Now we r rebuilding again, will take time.

@Kit, I could have sworn I saw Gakpo tracking back multiple times vs Munoz so not sure what you're saying here.
