Carrying on from last post as i sent on accident! I watched Konate yesterday and to say Ed01 you have got me looking at him in a different sense now. I have always thought he struggles with less inferior players. He seems to do well against good opposition i feel but then when he’s playing against real nuisances and not all technical ability he struggles. I think maybe someone can help but asides Brentford away the 3-1, i would argue it was his worst performance in a red shirt.

Anyway it was nice to see Chiesa have his moment, even if he is to leave it was nice he could have that experience.

I think too you have told me Ed01 numberous times about Isak joing and i probably haven’t been patient! So apologies over that but now i am finally starting to switch the lights on upstairs and see there surely isn't a way back now upon everything developing. The fans chant today, his teammates and everything else. It all seems to now point to an exit and i would be highly shocked if not now as it seems to far gone, i don't see how the fans welcome him back? They take 3 pts today if he plays.

Anyways thought id say a few things interesting if you could answer about Konate Ed01 be muchly appreciated mate.

{Ed001's Note - I would be surprised if Madrid were truly interested in Konate, I don't think he is that good.}

I’m with you and Ed - Konate is not very good, makes a lot of mistakes, and always seems to struggle with his concentration. His physicality is one of his biggest attributes, but he isn’t able to use it that well, and is often outmuscled by seemingly smaller players. He hasn’t progressed since arriving, and I think a lot of the poor defensive displays, both last season and at the start of this season, can be traced back to him. If we hadn’t had such a big turnaround of players, with more to come, I would’ve hoped the club replace him.

Without a natural DM most center backs are going to struggle in England. Konate is no extra ordinary but he is solid.

Totally agreed ed 01, he definitely plays better against better opposition and gets shown up often against lesser teams, I would sell and replace him in a heartbeat, vvd needs a settled partner not someone who is all over the place.

Thanks for the reply Ed.

Konates performance reminded me of trents v man utd when madrid made bid for him, he completely and utterly allover the place and didn't even look like he knew a game was on. Wouldn't surprise me if konate was at decision time as regards signing contract or not.

It's bizarre to me that the united game is still being talked about like it was proof that Trent's head wasn't in the game, he bounced back the game after and played generally very well for the rest of the season, so I'm not sure why that is still held up as evidence?

Ibou had a bad game, yes he should have tried to challenge Semenyo when he was running at goal instead of simply trying to keep up with him, but why is it that him and Virgil were isolated every time on the counter attack with the entire team caught up the field? The way people are talking on here Ibou is a liability and at fault for every chance we give up. We're talking about a title winning center half here, chances are he's going to play much better than that 9 times out of 10, and that number will go up once we figure out how to organise our rest defence better when we lose the ball.

Konate takes more swipes at a bouncing ball than that Swiper geezer takes at Dora the Explorer. He really set the tone for his performance about 20 minutes in when under no pressure at all he fired a back pass straight out for a corner. Pointing Virgil to track Evanilson before himself running away from Semenyo and not even looking at him as he took the shot to equalise was just the icing on the cake of his 0/ 10 performance.

I haven’t seen a CB play that badly in a Liverpool shirt since Joe Gomez vs Napoli a few years ago and before that you probably need to go back to the days of Dejan Lovren when he was hooked vs Spurs.

Konate is a weak link. Baffles me that Madrid and PSG want him. He gifted PSG a goal last season to get them to penalties. The next step for us as a team is replacing Konate with a better starting CB. I want Konate to stay because I think he’s a good character and a nice guy. Maybe with some competition he could improve even. With him under no pressure for his starting berth though, he will continue to cost us games. Klopp was in the process of phasing him out for Quansah. Just let that sink in, because Quansah was 21 and nowhere near ready to start in a title winning team. Klopp has forgotten more about football than most people know, and he could see Konate was a problem.

Konate had a poor game but he was outstanding last season and one of the key players for us to win the league.

That is very very harsh, MK. Even if it might be true that the Dembele goal could be regarded as being his fault, he played incredibly well the rest of the game. Why didn't our attacking players take advantage of the clear chances they were given in the game? If we put any of the multiple chances we had in the first 20 minutes away when we wre well on top, we wouldn't be talking about his supposed mistake in the first place, you're talking like he lost us the game.

As for Quansah taking over from Ibou, I remember Ibou missed five or six weeks with injury and Quansah was in form and exuding confidence in a possession dominant side. Last year Ibou was often excellent, stayed fit for more games than he has managed throughout his career and one of the first names on the team sheet for me.

Patrick indeed trent played well after that game and had some vital moments on way to winning league. I didn't say he didn't play well in general I said for that 1 particular game he was dreadful due to him considering his future. Konate performance fri reminded me of that game as he not right at all.
I would be a konate fan and I think he would be v hard replaced as trent will be.

Does Konate still think he's in 'pre season ' because that may explain why he looks like he's carrying a sack of coal .

17 Aug 2025 09:35:18
He had a poor 2nd half on Friday but him and VVD will continue to have them when we have so many players up the pitch without any cover.
It's inexcusable to me to have 8 players in the opposition's box when winning 2-1 and getting done with a 4 on 2 for their equaliser. That will always make the defenders look worse than they should do.

17 Aug 2025 09:58:00
Endos positioning for their 2nd goal was awful considering he was our Dm.

Gomez was in line with their 6 yard box and Curtis and Robbo were just in the 18 yard. When Bournemouth broke it was actually 4 v 2 for the majority of it.

17 Aug 2025 10:46:45
Got to agree ed1 if konate is in the shop window for Madrid he’s putting on a poor show.

17 Aug 2025 11:33:43
Konate is a good defender not a brilliant one n I think there are better defenders out there . VVD carries anyone who he plays next to though. but the 2nd goal wasnt the 2 CBs fault . we had 8 players in the opposition penalty box , they broke it was 2 defenders v 4 players. we need to correct this balance pronto.

17 Aug 2025 12:18:45
I wouldn't say his positioning was awful, JK. It was a counter attack and most of our players were out of position as they were pushed so far up the pitch. But I get what you meant too as I am also wondering what he's doing in the box as he is supposed to be our CDM and should be sitting just in front of our defence.

Call me harsh but I still think that Konate could have done more to prevent that goal. Or at least make it more difficult for Semenyo to shoot.
