Tough watch last night. I thought Ekitike and Alisson played well but other than that nobody else was anywhere near good enough. The crowd whistling was absolutely horrendous too. I had to put the volume down. The only thing worse than that was Shearer's biased commentary.

On top of us playing like Man United and the noise coming out of my TV making my ears bleed, we also got treated to a shambolic refereeing performance. It was never a penalty in a million years and he repeatedly gave them every soft touch, but let them absolutely clatter us (to which Shearer would say something bitter like "Szoboszlai needs to be stronger" five minutes after Yilmaz went down like he'd been shot from a pinky finger tapping his chin) .

Ultimately, we deserved absolutely nothing and just weren't good enough to come away with anything. Had they not got the soft penalty, they wouldn't have sat back to defend and they'd have almost definitely scored anyway and still gone on to win.

What I don't get is people targeting the new signings and making knee jerk assessments after 8 games. Wirtz seems to be the main scapegoat, but he's only had 2 bad games (Burnley and Galatasaray) . He's also 22 years old and in a new team/ league. People should probably look up De Bruyne and Salah's first seasons in the Premier League at around that age, before they start calling for Wirtz to be sold or bombed out the team.

I'm sure we'll click at some point, and I still keep having to remind people of the Jota situation. We all knew this would be a slow start to the season with the group emotionally struggling. On top of that, lot's of new players arriving (resulting in a system change) was always going to result in some turbulence. For years we've played without a proper striker, without a number 10, and with our RB being the primary source of creativity. You can't just change 8 years of consistency overnight.

By all means, dismantle the performances. I'm not saying people can't be negative. That was embarrassing last night from pretty much every player in a Liverpool shirt. However, a little bit of patience and understanding is needed right now.

Please stop talking sense MK, unhinged overreaction is the only way to go.

I'm really not sure that it's fair to say that they would certainly have won that game, MK, if Hugo or Cody had scored that chance that we had, there would have been no penalty and we might very well have gone on to score a second given that was how the momentum was going. We looked very good in the game until then, our build up looked decent as we moved through the lines, albeit they did have a chance of their own prior to Hugo being put through on goal.

The penalty changed the balance of the game and we didn't seem to be able to recover from that point.

I'm still upset about the penalty decision by the way. Dom's fingers graze the guy's face and he decides to go down like he had a hook to the nose. Folks on here saying that Slot made the wrong call putting him there might be right in the sense that we need Dom in midfield and our right backs need time in their preferred position right now, but that wasn't a mistake on his part, it was a mistake on the ref's part.

The ref's brother plays for Arsenal.
If that's not a conflict of interest I don't know what is.

I haven’t mentioned the ref in any of my posts but my god he was awful. It was barely a game of football because he just blew for literally everything for and against us.

That penalty was an absolute joke. As was the one he awarded us but at least VAR put that one right.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ref with less idea about the game of football. If you get to the ball first and get kicked he gave a free kick against you. Must’ve done it about 5 or 6 times including giving us a ridiculous penalty. I didn’t even celebrate winning the penalty because it was so, so clear that it wasn’t a pen.

Likewise I was astonished when he gave them a pen for a finger grazing the guy’s chin. You see that all of the time where players use their arms to run and protect the ball and they might catch someone but it’s almost never given as a foul.

It was so stop/ start it was impossible for the game to get into any kind of rhythm.

We played poorly, particularly after they’d scored but however bad we played the ref was 10 times worse he just had no control of their diving and cheating and just allowed it to happen and even rewarded it.

MK, this site is no place for your sensible posts.

{Ed025's Note - i do like MK,s post usually but that one was just crying and bemoaning your luck Rome, hes just making excuses for what were some pathetic performances on the whole and he needs to man up and accept that imo mate..

Presumably you didn’t read my whole post Ed025! I did state quite clearly we’d have lost regardless of the soft penalty and that all bar 2 of our players were terrible!

By the law of averages, one of Arsenal's centre halves was bound to have a brother that is a referee.

{Ed001's Note - it is a joke mate, look up Trossard and the ref and you will see what he is saying. They look very alike.}

I hope UEFA look at that referees performance i have not seen such a poor performance since i was in youth footy . I thought the prem refs were poor, but my word that french ref was dire.
Is that ref trisard brother from Arsenal?

02 Oct 2025 01:36:36
I know it was a joke, Ed001.
How many centre halves do you think that I think that Arsenal have?
I know it's only about 25,O00 which means it's unlikely that one of them is the brother of a referee.
He did look like Trossard, though ?.
