Lots of opinions so I'll add mine since I haven't quite seen it represented yet.
Disappointed to not to get a result yesterday because I think they were there for the taking. However, after being very concerned alongside everyone else before breaking the losing streak, I don't think it was a terrible performance. It looks like we were set up to stifle them which we mostly did (look at xG) except for Doku who's always a handful and usually has very little end product. We got unlucky with some (imo) bad calls. We should be better, but I think 3-0 is wildly flattering for their performance.
The concern from yesterday for me is the attack. I think the plan was to hit them on the counter but we were so slow, laborious, and although it's not new, wasteful with what chances we did create. There's going to be off days so in isolation maybe not a concern, but I'm wondering if we unbalanced the team and don't know how to make use of what we have without compromising tactics. It almost seems like a 3-1-4-2 would get the most players in their preferred spots, but we don't have the CBs to do it. Our best fit currently is to stick with the 4-3-3, but then one of wirtz, szobo, or ekitike/ Isak seem to be left out or played out of position which hinders tactics.

Adam Cleary broke it down how Doku ripped us apart and we struggled to deal with him even when putting 2 players on him. Watch it on YouTube.

You’re right it wasn’t terrible it was abysmal. We were abject for 80% of the match, showed zero desire, were second best for 50/ 50s and like other games this season had no clue.

4-3-1-2 I'd like to see, let the fullback get up the pitch and there's cover for the defence with the three mids and have wirtz behind Hugo and isak.

I second that emotion. I am puzzled by how flat we often seem, but I suspect the reason our build up play is so slow is down to one key thing: we don’t have Trent.
His departure means we have lost a key advantage: we used to have 2 defenders (Virgil and Trent) who could launch an attack from deep.
Now, there’s only Virgil - and Man City showed how easy it is to prevent him receiving the ball. Also worth bearing in mind that Ali also gave us a passing outlet.

Ironic that the reason we are not doing well is we cannot play long ball football any more … we sound like Wimbledon but without the bite, god forbid.

Snuggle, we stifled City so much they only beat us 3-0.

Viktor you can’t just look at a result and pretend it tells the whole story. It doesn’t.
Nor can you think that 1 shot on target tells the whole story. We all know Virgil’s goal should’ve stood so there’s 2, Salah dinked the keeper when one on one and it just went wide when he should’ve scored, Gakpo sliced from Bradley’s cross. So just saying we only had 1 shot on target makes it sound a lot worse than it was. City only had 6 on target but 2 of those were not threatening at all, one was a penalty, one hit Haaland in the face and went in, another was trickling along the ground but hit Virgil and went in and one was a great goal from distance.
They were not creating chances against us for the most part. In fact you could argue that we had the best chance of the game, other than the penalty when Salah was clean through.
I’m not saying we played well, we didn’t but just saying we lost 3-0 and only had 1 shot on target doesn’t tell the story. We deserved to get beat 100% but we did have a few things go against us in the game that could easily have made the momentum shift and the scoreline very different.

We still only had one shot on target Robbo. It’s good that your trying to to stay positive but facts don’t lie.

If Virgil’s goal had stood we would have got beat 3-1 instead of 3-0. There was no shift in momentum when they scored each goal or missed the penalty, no positive reaction, no attacking redress from Slot. We played the same turgid dross from start to finish and got what we deserved.
When the opposition score, I no longer see the doubling of effort or intense pressure to get parity that we were used to under Klopp.
We just stick to Slot’s game plan and hope it comes off.
I know historical comparisons are a little unfair but if it was Slot’s team in those amazing comeback matches versus Barca, Dortmund or Norwich, i reckon we would have gone out with a whimper.

To suggest there were any positives to draw from that is as delusional to say we stifled them. And no, we didn’t remotely stifle them, they looked like scoring every time they attacked, fools can bang on about nonsense like xG all they like, but the eyesight test says something very different. We barely laid a glove on them, that’s the truth, and whining about bad refereeing or “luck” is weak and nothing more than deflecting from truth, particularly when you concede three goals with no reply and could easily have lost 4,5 or 6 with no reply.
They had double the amount of shots we had and 6 of those were on target, and no, I’m not going to count a goal ruled out as offside as a shot on target, and wouldn’t have changed the result in any way. You can’t change the momentum if you’re constantly second best to everything on the pitch. We were too weak and open in midfield to the point of it being non existent, our defence was repeatedly opened up and if anything 3-0 flattered us we were so poor.
What I saw was a team that can’t defend in midfield, is too often bullied by opponents, doesn’t win enough duels or second balls, has absolutely no organisation when out of possession and no ideas what to do when in possession other than go backwards or sideways.
The result or performance isn't an outlier, it’s every bit as pathetic as the ones against Chelsea, United, Palace, Brentford etc. Something has to change and if Slot doesn’t do something soon, he may not have any more say on it. To spend £400m and not be able to defend a title is bad enough but playing like this we won’t likely make the champions league and that’s potentially very bad news financially.

That’s just your mind playing tricks on you Viktor. You think negatively so all you see is negativity.
I watched the game and didn’t feel like City would score every time they went forward. In fact I didn’t think they created much at all. They were better than us yes but they weren’t 3-0 better than us. But then I’m very positive, especially when it comes to Liverpool so I will obviously see it differently to you.
But I get it, people can support how they want to and I’ve given up trying to put my point of view across too vehemently because our viewpoints are so different we will never agree. I don’t get embarrassed by my team losing but many do. I can honestly say I’ve supported Liverpool all my life and have never seen any reason to be embarrassed by it. I just accept that it can’t be a precession of constant winning and take the rough with the smooth. But I suppose we are all different and It would be boring if we all thought the same.

We need to play to our strengths and let the opponent worry about us. I think Slot is more concerned about the opponent than letting them worry about how we might play.

I think the word you’re looking for is reality, not negativity. Maybe it’s time for you to get real also.
