PatrikBurgher has written an article entitled, Patience Required as Slot's Liverpool Find Their Rhythm

23 Dec 2025 11:35:45
Man City a few years back under Guardiola use to pin teams back and despite the team being defensively setup, there were runners everywhere in behind, little passes to find them, the energy was super high and busy around the box when the team was pinned back. It was almost inevitable they were going to score. The build was slower like we do but once they pin you back, they were dangerous. Some found it boring but I enjoyed the style personally. And they scored a lot.

They controlled the ball better than this Liverpool team but let's say Slot is showing signs towards building to that.

The biggest difference is when we have the team pinned back. There is a lack of energy. Lack of runners in behind. Lack of a risky pass, lack of ideas. We pass the ball around in a horseshoe while the defending team shuffles will little danger around. Complete lack of options. We have not score one goal when the team was pinned back. Not one. Tell me the goal.

Now you tell me, how is the team going to score goals if we build slow and allow them into position. They are not going to come out. They already know how to beat us. They know to avoid this. So how.

The slow build up does not worry me half as much as our lack of know how and energy when a team is pinned back. I can't see how slow build up works without that element of breaking teams down when they are pinned back.

And yes, we have new players up top. But I would have expected to see at least one goal when a team is pinned back.

And I'm seeing zero improvement. We look toothless when a team is in position.

All our goals are still coming on transition.

I really need to see a goal against a pinned defence and chances even against a pinned defence before my faith can be restored in Slot. The energy has to go way up in these situations. We need to panic the defence. Not let it have a field day like we do each and every game.

I'm not a Slot hater. But something needs to happen to show some light to the future. Right now, nothing is improving in the area that really needs to improve for slow controlled buildup to work.

Nope, no more patience. I’m fed up of the nonsense we’re being served up each week. We’re a crap football team with a glittering array of talented but unfit and underperforming players - that’s all.

We should have absolutely strolled the league this season. The rest of the league to a team, from Arsenal to Wolves, absolutely stink, yet we’ve ballsed up a real opportunity to retain the league title.

totally agree with Lowe1FC.

23 Dec 2025 12:16:41
Clearly we weren't prepared to stroll the league this season, I don't know why we still think that we have the squad and the chemistry at this moment in time to walk the league and it's just slot holding us back. If only things were that easy.

23 Dec 2025 12:19:52
How much patience do we need to have? The football is dire, the team are not playing how they should be, we spent £450 on brilliant players yet slot can’t get a tune out of them? No more BS or excuses, it’s time for a change. Patience is not a virtue and Slot has run out of time and excuses.

Agree with Lowe.

23 Dec 2025 13:16:42
Agree with Lowe and Salah.

PB - great post. Only thing I disagree with is that Slot will eventually get it right. I have seen nothing to suggest that. And I worry that after 18 months, he still doesn't understand or chooses not to harness the power of Anfield - our superpower.

Agreed with Lowe, Intel, Salah and Bazza! Happy Christmas you lot and all of your crews! Enjoy the hols and hopefully Santy will be generous to you all. See you on St. Stephens Day, NOT, Boxing Day! ???????????.

I would add that I'm undecided as to whether slot will get it right (the title of this piece of writing was added by the eds rather than myself) . I meant rather to try and give. a balanced view or the situation, so we can be realistic about the predicament that we are in.

23 Dec 2025 14:02:24
Agree with Lowe, Salah and Barry.

23 Dec 2025 15:24:21
I agree with Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich.

I agree with, Lowe, Salah, Barry, JLC, FPF and intel….

I agree with Rome1977, he's always right. Merry Christmas all. X.

23 Dec 2025 17:18:18
I agree with everyone who has run out of patience. he should have went weeks ago.

23 Dec 2025 17:54:09
LOL Rome! ?????.

@Lowel, not sure we would have strolled the league this season BUT I agree with your overall point. Slot is quadrupulong down on this system that is sucking the life out of a lot of us, football-wise.

I know people are happy with the results of late and I agree results are improving. however, they aren't due to any change in the way we play that offers us anything tangible to hold on to moving forward. On the contrary, things are getting worse, results be damned.

Hence why, I agree with the ther lads that Slot won't get it right and that like BR, the roof will come crashing down and we are going to start getting poor results again, whch will eventually doom Slot, for real. This is not a case of player talent. The players are there already.

Whenever he gets sacked is irrelevant. He will be judged on his own merits and failures and right now, he is failing overall (ignore recent results cos the perfs. are getting worse) .

23 Dec 2025 18:56:27
I agree with everyone except Patrick :)

I appreciate the assessment, but the obvious problem with it is if Slot is so smart and he's just missing the right midfield piece and the players are just a bit off, why has he persisted for so long with this system that is failing? He could surely do some training to get the players synchronized or just hold off on implementing the system until he gets a tackling ball player.

But he hasn't. He has stubbornly insistent on the system that put us on our worst run in half a century and continues with it and made us unwatchable and eeking out wins against 9 men.

I grant Slots probably a smart guy, but smart people can do stupid things, and Slot has stubbornly persisted with tactics that don't suit the team and expose his own weakness as a coach. Maybe he'll abandon his approach and get us back to actually playing football, but even if he does, I no longer trust him to lead us. He's shown us that he will take a winning team and change it into a losing one just to play the style he prefers, so why wouldn't he do it again in the future? Fool me once shame on you, fool me - well you can't fool me again.

Merry Christmas everyone!
