The football is extremely poor and boring to watch but are we all forgetting it wasn't much different under Klopp in his last two seasons after Pep had got his way with his amazing tactics.
It was all sideways and backwards with the 2 centre halves having more touches than anyone else on the pitch.

28 Dec 2025 18:04:02
Am sorry but there is no way you are tarnishing Klopp style by saying it’s the same as this utter sh**e we are enduring at the min! You’re talking nonsense.

28 Dec 2025 18:47:02
Tbf, the last season or so under Klopp was pretty poor.

28 Dec 2025 18:56:25
Either way 60 points to play for, let's go red men!

What longthing said.

“The last season or so under Klopp was pretty poor” we were chasing a quadruple at one point and very much in the title race until the final ten games or so. The football wasn’t turgid either. The selective memory is astonishing. Comparing this current muck to the worst of Klopp is an insult.

There is selective memory going both ways when it comes to Klopp.

We had periods of poor play, shockingly sloppy defending not too dissimilar to now and stretches of games without winning

It shouldn't be forgotten that in Klopp's first season and a half people questioned whether that style was suitable for the PL or sustainable for a title charge. Then we had seasons with bad injuries and people made claims that the high octane style was detrimental.

But the overriding feeling with Klopp is that the energy and emotion we played with when we were at our best is what really excited the fanbase. So, you could see the vision of how we wanted to play and whilst it was high risk, it was high reward. It's a shame that we didn't win more than we did.

This is where I am with Slot's style - it needs time to develop. I can see the blueprint developing. Although it was against arguably the PLs worst ever team, I could see the fluidity between the wings, fullbacks linking better with CMs and CF

In moving back to a system with wide wingers, that was the first game I'd really seen synergy with the fullbacks and creating space both narrow and wide, it was good to see.

It fell apart in the second half, but we're going to because we're not that team yet.

we're on the way.

Well this is the post I was waiting for Faith.

Up to now nobody has said they can see a system (even a developing one)

So this gives me hope.

28 Dec 2025 22:37:25
The football in Klopp’s final season was as dull as dishwater.

28 Dec 2025 23:24:57
Behave Klopp football was never this rubbish. EVER.

29 Dec 2025 00:13:31
Klopp also didn't spend £446 million in one window.

29 Dec 2025 00:36:58
It wasn’t boring every single game. It is Now.

29 Dec 2025 00:56:48
I can kind of see where the OG post is coming from. The attacking build up play is not great to watch, but when it works it is efficient, if not exciting.
The difference now though and Klopp's final years is that the defensive solidarity has dropped off. Robertson and VVD are aging and it is showing, full backs positions have completely changed, Konate no longer has the get out of jail free card that is prime VVD and is having consistent mares, and the midfield is no longer set up to cover the defence, as it almost always was under Klopp and even Pep.

L to an extent.
When the defence is solid, that boring but efficient attack only needs a moment or two to win a game. Defensive change needs to be priority number 1 and then I think we'll be fine. Boring to watch, but fine nonetheless.
Slots challenge will be to get that right. Semenyo should not be a priority for me. Guehi, Bastoni, and a Rodri type player for the midfield should be.
All just my subjective opinion.

29 Dec 2025 02:00:22
Slot hasn’t spent £446m in one window either Endo.

If you’re going to criticise based on the value of players then you have to take into account the value of the players we’ve lost too.

Trent £80m, Jota £40m, Darwin £50m, Diaz £60m, Quansah £35m.

They are rough numbers but it’s roughly £265m worth of talent we’ve lost before we signed anyone.

29 Dec 2025 06:31:48
The last season under klopp we scored 86 goals and lost 4 games. So far we have lost 6 and scored only 30 goals half way thru the season.

Slot got £450 million of new players Sean Dundee. If we are going to use your analogy then we are going to have to rewrite the history books of transfers for every PL club. Jota hardly played, Darwin hardly played, Quansah never played, Elliott hardly played, We got players in that Slot would use more . It’s just nonsense.

29 Dec 2025 09:29:40
Klopp never spent £446 million in one window. What part of my statement is incorrect?

29 Dec 2025 09:30:53
Someone must have slept through near a decade of the Klopp era to make such a ridiculous claim that Kloppball was as dire/ boring as the crap we are seeing being served up by this team, let alone the league overall.

29 Dec 2025 09:33:31
In total, Liverpool spent £446m - the most ever spent by a Premier League club in a single window, eclipsing the £434.5m spent by Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

29 Dec 2025 10:29:08
Oli - not sure if you're responding to me, but in response I would say that the comparison of playing styles isn't really the point. at least, it's not my point

my overall point is that what we are watching now isn't the best version of what we're working towards.

29 Dec 2025 11:22:59
I remember OliRed, not that long ago, describing Klopp's football as 'slow possession footie nonsense'.
