Just watching match of the day and after seeing the United vs city highlights, it's amazing what a change in manager has done for them in his first game in charge! Th.

Its amazing what a change in manager has done for them in the years since Fergie left.

We've seen this song and dance with United before. They are also accustomed to raising their game against "bigger" teams while being crap in every other game. Still too early to tell if Carrick has a positive impact on them though. Results were great under Ole when he was their interim too.

Imo, we should look at ourselves and decide if Slot is the man to take us forward, regardless of what other teams are doing. The answer for me is no he isn't, and I would replace him with Alonso asap, especially since he is availab now. My main worry is that with the chuckle brothers at the helm of our club, we would dally on it and miss this opportunity, similar to how we missed out on Guehi.

There is going to be a lot of change with managers and coaches in summer.

Drac 100%.

One swallow doesn't make a summer.

Gotta be honest though that's probably the best I've seen United play in a long time. Could have been a 5 or 6 nil win.

It was 5 nil technically. Although 3 were disallowed. That's just crazy.

OP, don't be fooled by that. United have always found their spines when playing big rivalry games esp. at home, just like we would during our bad period esp. at home with a new manager. They were always going to be up for that City game and with a City team in tatters (no wins in 3 in the PL coming in) they were always going to struggle.

Give it a few games where the oppo. doesn't get the adrenaline pumping and you can judge what a new manager can bring, IMO. All that being said, they played well and easily could have been 4-0, offside goals excluded, IMO.

They'll get it right 1 day. And maybe they have. We on the other hand are persisting this. Amor in was too set in his ways, but still played better football than us currently. Madness for me.

If United were going to play a good game this season it was against their arch enemy (who were God awful) and with another one of their ex-players gee-ing them up. Normal service will be resumed momentarily.

{Ed025's Note - give credit where its due WDW, United were excellent yesterday mate and it could easily have been 5-0..

18 Jan 2026 14:47:55
My point exactly, WDW. They played well and battered City so credit to them, regardless.

@25, I agree, they were up for it and kept City out if the game. I stand by what I said - if they played against City again next week, and the week after it would be a different story.

@Oli, as usual, I understood what you were saying, it's not a hard skill to acquire.
