Identity Crisis at Anfield: Why Arne Slot Needs to Go
Last night proved what we all already knew, this Liverpool squad is built for war, high intensity, and heavy-metal football. But it also exposed the biggest problem at the club right now—Arne Slot.
Why have we only seen this level of performance in two or three games all season? The answer is simple: Slot is suppressing the soul of this team. He is obsessed with a slow "controlled" and defensive style that completely kills our momentum. When he actually lets them play the Liverpool way with the intensity Klopp instilled in them we look world-class. Yet he insists on reverting to a boring, rigid system that has seen us play absolute rubbish and drop vital points.
Liverpool FC isn't about "playing it safe". Our DNA is Attack, Attack, Attack.
Slot is showing us that he values his own tactical ego over the club’s identity. If he’s going to keep putting the handbrake on this team and only allow us to be Liverpool for a fraction of the season, then he has no business being in the dugout. We don’t want controlled defensive football that's brought us draws and losses. We want the riot.
It’s time for a manager who actually understands what this club stands for. Slot out. ?

Yes, but the point is that no team can maintain such a style in four competitions all season. This is the exact reason that even Klopp eventually abandoned the gegenpress, too.
This Slot bashing is getting beyond a joke. Even when he does exactly what you want, you use it as an excuse to criticise.

Stoneage, oh, has he won a game in style? He's a genius now, eh.
19 Mar 2026 18:21:34
Agreed, Stoneage. Tedious and downright weird.

Someone should tell the likes of Grav and Salah, among others, that they are built for war when they're pulling out of tackles. And, as far as the Club's identity is concerned, does that mean when we're bringing a manager in we just say to him, "Look, we like what you've done before, but if you could just scrap that and have a little look at this leaflet detailing the way we play, that'd be great"? Every manager has a tactical ego, and they all have their own way of doing things.
We are not going to find a manager who all fans are gonna be fully happy with the way he does things.
19 Mar 2026 18:34:18
I think we were all happy with Klopp, Florian, so that's a lie. Although I'm sure you'll point to some part timer who said they weren't.
19 Mar 2026 18:42:31
Kloppo05, "Our DNA is attack, attack, attack." Utter tosh. How long have you been following us? It's not always been that way, I assure you. Even during our most successful period.
19 Mar 2026 18:58:08
Last night was exactly how I thought this season was gonna go. Crowd electric. The right formation for once, Wirtz tucking into the tip of the diamond and Salah moving up front to create the 442.
Not one player playing out of position, for once, everyone looking for a forward pass.
It was absolutely exquisite and I loved every single second of our game.
The proper fans back in the ground, not selling tickets off to tourists. Arne Slot was great. Good hungry substitutes at the right time.
Even my half-time pie was bang on. ?? ? Top night. Bring on Paris.

"Having followed the Reds since Bob was in charge, I've seen every style of play imaginable. I know we haven't always been a 'heavy metal' side, but we've always been a side that plays with intent. This current style feels flat and lacks the spark that makes Liverpool, Liverpool.
You can call it 'tosh' if you want, but, as someone who's been there through the glory years, I'm asking you: are you really satisfied with what you're seeing on the pitch right now?"
19 Mar 2026 19:21:29
Not a lie, Frode. Plenty of moaning about Klopp on here during his time with the club. Did he not play MF's at CB? Move away from the football that made us successful? Persist with a young Trent who wasn't up to it? Not know what he was doing buying players from relegated clubs? Be too loyal? I could go on.
Point is, no manager is going to please all fans all the time. Not even a legend like Klopp.
19 Mar 2026 19:24:44
I'm sorry, but the football now is certainly no worse than a lot of the stuff served up by Rafa and Houllier. We were practically a counter-attacking team under Ged. We parked a lot of buses back then.
19 Mar 2026 19:28:02
We're so bad it's Slot's fault.
In fact, we are so bad, that when we are good it is Slot's fault.
19 Mar 2026 19:47:35
Great night at Anfield last night, but I'm not convinced. It won't be long before Slot goes back to his negative tactics. To all the fans backing him, are you actually enjoying this brand of football, or are you just settling for 'boring' as the new normal?
20 Mar 2026 20:20:44
I find it odd that we get a great result and performance, but it is all despite the manager? And he is even more hated?
Social Media - it exists, but gosh, I wish people would be less feral with their discontent.
19 Mar 2026 20:47:08
Florian, people definitely complained about Klopp in his first season and a bit, and throughout his tenure. I remember being on here arguing with people about it lol.
19 Mar 2026 21:07:40
Kloppo05, I'm definitely not happy with how this season's going, it's been absolutely dire at times. Where my opinion differs from most is that I apportion some of the blame to the players.
LFC8, good post, mate.
My £3 coffee tasted good as well!
Klopp is an absolute legend as far as I'm concerned, but Florian is right. He didn't always get it right. No manager does, certainly in the eyes of supporters.
19 Mar 2026 21:22:52
It's easy to blame the players, but they can only play the way they are coached. We've seen these same players perform at a world-class level under a different system. If the style is 'absolutely dire' as you admit, that comes from the top. Why stifle a talented squad with such a negative approach?
19 Mar 2026 21:32:19
Ultimately, he will get the sack, Kloppo. The manager nearly always does. But some of the players have put in s**** performances this season, and that's down to them.
19 Mar 2026 22:03:12
If the performances are as 'sh***' as you say, and the manager is inevitably getting the sack, then we're essentially saying the same thing. The experiment has failed. Great players look like bad players in a bad system. Last night showed they still have the quality; they just need a manager who actually wants to use it.
19 Mar 2026 22:27:06
Players good. Manager bad. Sounds like a conversation I've had too many times on here this season. Night lads.
19 Mar 2026 22:30:19
Our opinions aren't far apart, Kloppo. I'm not on here, like plenty of posters, blaming Slot for the famine in the world and child poverty. I also would love him to turn things around, because that would ultimately lead to success, which is what we all want.
19 Mar 2026 23:46:43
That's the core of it - it's the personality gap. Figures like Klopp make you feel part of the journey because they're charismatic and accountable. Slot has never managed that connection, and once you combine a lack of personality with a refusal to admit mistakes, there's no way back. The boos at the weekend were the fans' final answer.
20 Mar 2026 00:04:10
World famine and child poverty? Don't half talk some sh*te you Rome.
20 Mar 2026 06:40:20
Agree and disagree on this one. I'll give 100% credit to the players and the coach, but, guys, we didn't beat PSG and Madrid combined into one team on the pitch tonight. That, I'm afraid, is another kettle of fish that's coming. I hope we sink our teeth in, as we did against Gala. It would be awesome, but gonna have to wait and see which Liverpool could turn up.
What has irked me the most is we play one belter game and then revert back to a no-intensity Liverpool.
I have personally said to myself, yes, we've rounded the corner now many times this season. I've learnt from experience, and will not get overly excited or convinced we'll go on a stormer now. I hope I'm completely wrong, though.
All in all, I had a good ol' night, and well done to Slott and the boys. Thanks for pulling the finger, appreciate that.
20 Mar 2026 06:50:02
It is Florian, and you've been wrong most of the time. Sleep well.
20 Mar 2026 07:09:15
I think Rome is a very eloquent poster myself, and Florian too. You understand where they are coming from and use a fair bit of wit in their posts. What's not to like? All options welcome, I say.
20 Mar 2026 07:40:08
@Strom, @Frode, etc, you rightly criticise when the team is poor, you wrongly criticise when the team plays well, you wrongly criticise Slot no matter what happens. Unlike the naysayers, Slot has won a PL for us - only one of two managers to win the PL in the last 30 years.
20 Mar 2026 08:11:04
Thank you for your kind words, Irish. You're a good man. I think my sarcasm, which I rely heavily on, can sometimes be lost on Scouse!
20 Mar 2026 11:38:48
Always said you were a great poster, Irish. ?
