We will get some decent variates here with age differences.

For me

Hyypia
Finnan
Hamann
Alonso
Gerrard
Mane
Salah
Suarez

Bench

If I judged them on how well they actually played in the games I've watched in the flesh then it would have to be:

Alisson (2023-26)
Trent (2023-25)
Skrtel (2012-16)
Virgil (2023-26)
Kerkez (2025-26)
Lallana (2015-16)
Henderson (2012-16)
Coutinho (2012-16)
Salah (2023-26)
Firmino (2015-16)
Sterling (2012-15)

I didn't manage to get to a game between 2017-2022 due to my inability to put on a condom in my early 20's.

So sadly I missed out on seeing the likes of Matip, Fabinho and Mane in the flesh. Every game I've been to where I've seen them play Robertson, Gerrard, Sturridge and Suarez were diabolical, so although I've seen them play in the flesh, it's very hard for me to include them in this team!

{Ed025's Note - im a big fan of your work MK but i have to say that is one of the worst Liverpool sides i have seen on paper mate..

21 Apr 2026 13:04:15
The interesting repeated name is Ali - going to be a big miss when he leaves, I remember some dark days of very poor goalkeepers, hopefully, Mama grows into the role.

21 Apr 2026 13:14:41
Alisson, Robertson, Van Dijk, Matip, Trent, Gerrard, Fabinho, Henderson, Mane, Firmino, Salah.

I saw Suarez live, and I've always thought he is incredibly talented but not breaking that front. Three that combined perfectly.

Xabi Alonso was one of my favourite Liverpool players and would definitely make my team but I never saw him live.

Carra, I thought about but I always thought Matip did well enough with VVD. I went with the tried and tested on that one.

That's my live list. I would change a few if I could include players I didn't see live.

21 Apr 2026 13:18:54
Oh, this is new. I wasn't aware condoms were required to attend games. I love this site. I learn new things almost every week. ?

I have yet to (ever) attend a game at Anfield. But it's on my bucket list. And now I'll be suitably prepared. ?

21 Apr 2026 13:28:29
Imagine the current midfield up against that midfield of Souness, McMahon and Gerrard?

21 Apr 2026 13:37:41
Souness and McMahon would have Mac Allister in a horizontal state, looking at the ref and asking for help, for the majority of the game. Gravenberch wouldn't do any better. Szoboszlai would resist a little bit.

21 Apr 2026 13:49:57
Mk, what have you been smoking, order me some plz... I know it's all about opinions, but Skrtel, Kerkez, Lallana is that the best you could come up with.

21 Apr 2026 13:59:30
That's one heck of a team there, Ron, my lord!

21 Apr 2026 14:02:59
Skrtel, my oh my. One of the most overrated defenders ever, I could not stand him, he was horrendous, he used to back off and back off and back off, terrible positioning sense and 90% of the time doing idiotic tackles to save him from his terrible positioning. Even Dejan Lovren was better for me! Lallana, without the injuries, is class though.

21 Apr 2026 14:48:43
Becker
Neal. Lawrenson, Hansen. Hughes, Captain
Gerrard. Souness
Suarez, Dalglish, Barnes
Rush.

21 Apr 2026 14:49:29
Away from my 1892 side, it's hard to disagree with Ron's, based on players we've seen. If we're allowed one sub, it would have to be the racist, cannibal. Vile human, but for a couple of seasons, absolutely unstoppable.

21 Apr 2026 15:10:35
Any 11 from:

Alisson Becker
Ray Clemence
Phil Neal
TAA
Alan Hansen
Mark Lawrenson
Ron Yeats
Virgil
Gerry Byrne
Alan Kennedy
Graeme Souness
Jimmy Case
Terry McDermott
Steven Gerrard
Mo Salah
Ian Rush
Kenny Dalglish
John Barnes
Steve McMahon
Peter Thompson
Ian Callaghan
Kevin Keegan
Sir Roger Hunt
Ian Rush

I'm in my 70's.

I had to stop there as this is taking too long and I might not have time on my side to finish the list!!! :-D

{Ed025's Note - there is nothing like going out on a limb Clay.,and that is nothing like going out on a limb mate.. :)

21 Apr 2026 15:49:53
Mate, none of my limbs work properly now. Two total hip replacements and a shoulder reconstruction. I'm not half 'armless.

{Ed025's Note - i feel for you Clay, im nearly 68 and falling to bits mate.. :)

21 Apr 2026 16:18:29
I never got to see Clem, he was before my time - I have heard/been told he played without gloves for a long time?

{Ed025's Note - a truly great keeper BK..

21 Apr 2026 16:47:46
Clemence only let 16 goals in a 42 game season. That's how good he was.

21 Apr 2026 17:03:19
Alli
Aurelio
Vvd
Carra
Babbel
Barnes
Gerrard
Alonso
Salah
Suarez
Torres
Subs...
Reina
Hypia
Macharano
Firmino
Couts
Finnan
McManaman
Fowler.

21 Apr 2026 17:23:29
Ali

Trent
Hyypia
VVD
Robbo

Mascherano
Alonso
Gerrard
Coutinho

Suarez
Salah

Not an ideal formation but the best I've seen in the flesh.

21 Apr 2026 17:03:17
Ed025 I think we should send someone round for a welfare check on MK after listing that team, pretty sure that post qualifies as a symptom of head trauma.

{Ed025's Note - hes a great poster Chewy but i think there may have been a brain fart somewhere mate.. :)

21 Apr 2026 17:44:46
Fair play to MK, at least he stuck to best 11 ?

21 Apr 2026 17:46:16
Great choice Ron, that's some line-up!

21 Apr 2026 18:13:36
Like I said lads, not the team I'd pick normally but the post said "in the flesh" and those are the players who've stood out in games where I was at the ground! In a normal world where I can include what I've seen on TV, Skrtel, Kerkez and Lallana aren't getting anywhere near the team! But my LB choices were basically a washed Robertson, Enrique or Moreno. My CB choices were Konate, Lovren, Sakho, Toure or Skrtel. In midfield I could've gone with Dom or Gerrard over Lallana but honestly in the games where I was at the ground Lallana was just better than they were. Gerrard was about 34 the one time I saw him play and he got bullied bad. Dom I've seen a few times but he had a shocker all 3 times! I just tried to stay true to the OP's criteria!

We're not all blessed with watching Liverpool 30 times a season haha! But it's a fair comment that if I picked that team as our best XI since 2012, I'd need my head checked. Alisson, Virgil, Trent, Salah, Firmino and Hendo are probably fair but the rest get nowhere near a best XI since then if I ignore the criteria!

21 Apr 2026 18:49:16
Same as Ron. That's the 11 no doubt about it.

22 Apr 2026 01:07:01
Dudek, Carragher, Henchoz, Hyypia, Riise, Hamman, Stevie G, Gary Mac, Owen, Heskey, Anelka. Only been once so pool of players was fairly limited lol
