Darwin Nunez on a free, left wing role and back up striker?

05 Jun 2026 01:22:56
Didn't we already try that?

05 Jun 2026 01:28:49
The lad never stopped running, and was well respected from the Kop. I'd personally have him back all day and it would be interesting to see what the new manager would get out of him as he's still coachable.

Always a psychological thing with the lad as he had the talent, but obviously put himself under too much pressure, and could be suggested that he tried too hard, therefore didn't relax into the game.

@ The Lid, (nice name, btw Lid) I agree, mate. Echoes of Milan Baros, but more dangerous. Ask any defender, they will tell you he's a lot to play against. He is gonna be awesome for someone.

Bit wounded it's not us, tbh.
Ah well, u never look back.
Ps. I bet AI would get summat out of him. Just trust him and pick him (I'm aware that may FM logic.)

05 Jun 2026 03:30:04
No end product, no awareness. In his career he has had about 4 good games - 2 against us in the CL, about half an hour at Newcastle and about 10 minutes against Brentford.

Like Sinatra should have sung 'If you can't make it in Saudi, you can't make it anywhere'.

05 Jun 2026 04:18:06
WDW, that's really harsh and also simply not true.

05 Jun 2026 06:10:12
I would take him on a free to cover left wing/striker.

05 Jun 2026 06:41:06
I'd take him as well. I feel we will need to dip into the free transfer and loan market this summer, and I'm all for it.

05 Jun 2026 07:01:51
2 year contract while palindrome recovers, then reassess after 12 months, either get a wedge or keep.

05 Jun 2026 07:06:10
I'm sure there's an Ian Holloway quote too, WDW, about not going back to your ex missus.

05 Jun 2026 07:34:30
I'd take him back, especially given he'd be free and Ekitike's injury. Always liked him as a player even though he could be very frustrating. But he's quick and a handful to play against, unlike some of our players last season...

05 Jun 2026 07:40:09
WDW is right. Maybe not factually about the 4 games, but certainly about him being rubbish. We need forwards who can play the game correctly and put the ball in the net. There are much better options out there for us than him! Move on!

05 Jun 2026 08:08:24
I love Darwin. I'd have him back in heartbeat. Raw passion and constant 100% effort should never be underestimated, it's contagious.

05 Jun 2026 08:16:57
My dad, who is a Liverpool fan and suffered a stroke last month, always said: "Nunez has something about him and should be loaned out and not sold to get his confidence back." Apart from erratic finishing, Nunez always fights.

05 Jun 2026 08:43:46
The guy couldn't hit a barn door when he was here and suddenly he's an option. Come on... And I love Darwin.

05 Jun 2026 09:00:14
No brainer imo.
Sign for free, keep for 2 years minimum, would still fetch 30 mill for him. Got all our money back from original outlay.

05 Jun 2026 09:12:06
You get raw passion and effort at Sunday league matches, Riostepover. That doesn't make those players capable of playing for Liverpool. You need a bit more than that, you know. Nunez was and still is not good enough. I trust we'll get somebody who actually is.

05 Jun 2026 09:17:27
I love Darwin and always will, but he is a confidence player. Bring him off the bench now and then, and I'm not sure he would be effective, he's like the polar opposite of Origi, who would remain bizarrely calm in the most tense of circumstances.

05 Jun 2026 09:21:42
Darwin couldn't score goals consistently, and in the end, that did him in. Having said that, he has qualities that are ripe for a manager who can get the best out of him.

However, what the manager does need to do is to not make him his basic source of goals, cos if that happens, the team will struggle.

05 Jun 2026 09:55:20
What sticks in my mind is why his contract was agreed to be terminated, why he hasn't played since February, and after less than a season there?
He's not good enough for us, and I don't care that he's on a free.

Again, why?
I don't buy into all this covering the left wing either. We're looking for reasons for him to be a Liverpool player and they are just not there, imo.

05 Jun 2026 11:04:55
When Nunez played against us for Benfica he was top drawer in both games, but reality is, he is a headless chicken. Id swerve him even in a free.

05 Jun 2026 12:15:45
I'm sorry, he might be a lovely fella off the pitch, and I wish him good luck in whatever he does, but in my honest opinion, if we bring him in on a free we are being ripped off. He had 3 years and the best you can say for him as a foo5baller is that he runs around a lot.
