Folks... For the benefit of wishful thinking during this window

If Liverpool wanted someone who gives you the "all-action" profile we need —constant running, winning the ball, carrying it forward, and huge defensive work rate— these are the best options.
Player Better than Anderson? What they're elite at
Carlos Baleba Potentially yes. Tackles, recoveries, athleticism, ball carrying.
Joao Gomes Similar defensively. Tackles, duels, aggression, pressing.

Sandro Tonali Yes. Passing + work rate + defensive output.
Ederson Yes. Ball winning, carries, pressing, physicality.
Federico Valverde Definitely yes. Elite engine, pressing, ball carrying, versatility.
Adam Wharton Different profile. Passing and control rather than tackling.
Angelo Stiller Different profile. Tempo control, distribution, positioning.

And after I did this I just realised the man I have Ederson

In the quiet words of the Virgin Mary.

Come again?

26 Jun 2026 15:43:29
Federico will give the players' Mrs some action too while he's at it.

Good old Bricktop FC8. ?

None of those players are actually better than Anderson. Tonali and Valverde are maybe the only ones on that list that are of a comparable level. I would agree that Anderson is certainly not worth that much money, though you could argue that he is good at basically everything a central midfielder needs to be good at right now without being weak at anything in particular.

Damn ... I had it as a table, so I think everything got squashed.

If I said yes or definitely yes, it was comparing them to Anderson - better or worse off.

Giving me Fornax vibes, but he never mentioned the latest from Malmo.

26 Jun 2026 16:39:11
What in the ChatGPT is going on here?

26 Jun 2026 16:46:22
I am wounded.

26 Jun 2026 17:24:16
Fornax, grab something from the SctickPlast range, by the checkouts, to help with your wound. ?

Anyone but Valverde

Real Madrid is surely going to off load him this summer.

Keep that little thug out our club

Valverde is extremely toxic, and was one of the masterminds behind Alonso's dismissal at Real Madrid. And I just read reports that he is doing the same thing in the Uruguayan national team by trying to force Bielsa out. I'd stay well clear of him. We don't need characters like him in our team.

27 Jun 2026 12:34:52
Why is Valverde 'extremely toxic'? People have affairs in the grown up world. What did the masterminds do, and why did Alonso put up with it? I don't know the 'ins and outs' of what went on at Madrid in Xabi's short stay, but I suggest the 'mastermind', for want of a better term, was Perez.

27 Jun 2026 13:47:53
I'm not sure if you're purposely being obtuse or just trolling, WDW. The RM players under Alonso were allegedly split into two camps, those who supported him and those who wanted him out. Valverde was in the latter category, with him making statements in the press about it and even being dropped/refusing to play (whichever you want to believe). The players then supposedly cried to Perez about it, and ultimately resulted in Alonso getting sacked.

And now similar rumours are emerging from the Uruguayan camp, that Valverde again confronted the coach, Bielsa in this case, about his training methods, saying that they're too intense.

While these are just rumours at this point, the fact remains that Valverde is the captain of both RM and Uruguay, and in both instances, he is at the centre of the controversy. This is again not to mention the bust up he had with Tchouameni and Baena. So unless he is one of the most misunderstood footballers currently, the evidence suggests that he is a toxic individual and should not be anywhere near our club.
