Someone asked me to pour cold water on the Umpecano rumours. Just picked a bucket of water up from the artic and its being poured as we speak.

3 defenders being looked at, Guehi we all know about and Ordonez as mentioned below. The Bastoni rumours ain't going away either, not a Jan transfer tho. More of a summer one to replace Konate. As from what I have heard, the club are losing patience with him.

None of that is the reason I came on here tho. I have been contacted by an agent, looking to relocate a player to the North West from the South Coast of the UK. It could be a few players but from what he told me, I believe this to be Semenyo. Which backs up what a lot of others gave been saying on here.

Always appreciate the insight ?
Bastoni would be some signing, I think we all agree he would be the best long term successor to VVD.

We've got a great hand, but no full house yet. Players like Bastoni bring the royal flush. I wonder how Mo would feel about having rock-solid competition in Semenyo.

EM, I think you're right and the reason he is seen as a Konate replacement is because he is expected to leave.

Banana, I've heard from a realiable source Salah is off in the summer. He loves the club of course but 1 of the reasons he signed his contract was because of the way the fanbase turned on that Spanish right back that's currently sat on Real's bench. The thing is none of us would of, as the other lad was local but it turned out he was born in Madrid. Salah would of and will get the send of he deserves.

Thank you for the insight.
We are very luck to have you, ned-derino and macca on here.

Sorry if missed anyone - much appreciated.

Macca, carra - same same ??.

Thefields - That makes sense. It always felt like the 2 year contract was to protect his value. Mo came as an unknown quantity and leaves as one of footballs and LFC's legends.

Ed says Mo won't be going to Saudi, but who else is going to pay for him? He's got some years left in him in a slower, less physical league.
Any ideas where he may go, if not Saudi? Bayern?

There's always the MLS too, Banana. Less physical but still offering top wages for old and retiring players.

I’m off the thinking Salah has unfinished business at Liverpool still and he won’t want to leave on a poor performance season

I think him and Semenyo could definitely play in the same team and also fight for the same position

I know the tactics aren’t there yet…
But a front line of squad depth
Rio
Gakpo

Isak
Ekitike

Salah
Semenyo

Chiesa (if he is to stay)

Anyone remember Balotelli, Lambert and Borini as our front three?

Fields mate - if Arsenal enter the race, for Semenyo could be a problem? Arsenal fan apparently

Cheers
Drogie.

I’d read that Arsenal were looking at Rodrygo rather Semenyo? Hopefully they follow up on that as he’s Antony mk2.

20 Nov 2025 16:03:41
Drogie, I don't think we have to worry about that. Arsenal don't need him, they have Martinelli, Eze, Mandueke, Saka and Nwaneri for their wide positions. I'm of the personal opinion that Semenyo is better than all but Saka. Still Arsenal won't move for him because of that depth.

Thanks Fields.

Not sure the Upamecano stuff was ever really a thing.

Interesting video from David Lynch got put up yesterday specifically on the subject of Semenyo, bit of balanced commentary to offset the almost unanimous consensus that he'd be a top player for us.

Basically Lynch, in assessing the long term stats of the player, comes to the conclusion that the numbers he is putting up (goal involvements, that is), are an aberration in the context of his career, and while they could suggest a drastic upward trajectory when everything finally clicks for the player and he starts flying, it could also mean that it is simply a hot streak and not replicable over the long term. Among the more eye-raising stats is the fact that Semenyo took 126 shots to score 11 goals last year, and the vast majority of those shots were not rated as good chances xG wise. Also the fact that Semenyo, by any metric, is not a particularly creative player in terms of providing assists, and that he is actually on the bottom end of wingers and attacking midfielders (I think I remember in the 18th percentile or something? ) when it comes to creating chances.

Now I'm still very much for signing the player because I think he gives us something that we lack in terms of graft, pure pace, physicality, engine/ willingness to press and trickery, and I think that in the short term we aren't looking for him to score a lot of goals but to give us a Diaz-like capacity to carry and pen full backs back/ create chaos in the final third with his dribbling ability, and I get that if he finally does replace Mo, there are goals in the side through our other attacking additions, but Lynch's commentary is still worth a watch and warrants some reflection/ discussion.
