Afternoon Gents
I've been told Konate has agreed and signed his deal.
Cheers.
21 Apr 2026 17:02:07
Thanks Robbo.

Protects his value and hopefully offers guidance for the youngsters coming through. If he can sort out the brain farts, then we might look back in a year's time and be glad he's extended.
21 Apr 2026 17:23:03
Thanks for the update, Robbo.
21 Apr 2026 17:24:50
Delighted. Been a tough year for him.
21 Apr 2026 17:41:17
Yeah all players have underperformed this year plus he's lost a close friend and his dad. I think his performances this season make sense when you put it in perspective and next year with Leoni and Jacquet pushing him I expect he'll be back to his former self. I'm glad he's extended

Great 4th choice CB for next season.
21 Apr 2026 18:22:14
Just when you think things couldn't get any worse. They obviously can.
21 Apr 2026 18:49:51
Not entirely sure why this is seen as a positive.
He's been a weak link for a while and he's only signed as his twerking for the attention of others hasn't produced any results!
21 Apr 2026 18:51:15
If that's the case Robbo that's the worst bit of business Hughes and Edwards have done as Konate is the worst CB in the top 2 leagues? .and that's amongst some colossal clusterflucks over the last few months (Ghehi and Semenyo in particular). We're treading water now as it is and if Sloth ? stays we'll drown next season for sure!! ????
21 Apr 2026 20:29:18
@Wassa, if he hasn't / doesn't sign a contract he is gone on July 1st and the club get £ 0. If he signs a contract extension and his form picks up next season then it's good for the club in terms of a (potentially) very good player.
Irrespective of form next season we are still positioned to sell him and bring in cash from his (potentially) sale.

People have short memories.
Not long back there were multiple threads with people apologising to Ibou (indirectly) as nobody knew what was going on in the background with his dad etc. how that may have been effecting him and would continue to do so etc etc etc.
Now it is back to hammering him. The short period people actually saw the human in the shirt was nice.
The whole team have been poor this year. The defence and GK, whoever it may be, have suffered significantly due to how exposed the midfield has left them.
The tactics and football has failed to flatter any player, Ibou included. As such should we let everyone walk on a free if the opportunity arises?
21 Apr 2026 21:29:59
That depends entirely on the contract WDW.
It could equally be an Edwards special where ibou is given a ridiculously high wage.
Which seriously effects any sale value anyway as nobody will pay him what we are. In which case if his form doesn't improve, and he's never really shown more than the briefest of glimpses it can, we are stuck with him on monster wages.
21 Apr 2026 21:32:29
Not a bad thing as it protects his value
{Ed001's Note - what value? The only reason he isn't leaving is because he has no value.}
21 Apr 2026 23:09:36
I think you're selling us a bit short there, Ed. Plenty of clubs would pay a good fee for him, just not a better club.
{Ed001's Note - I doubt it.}
21 Apr 2026 23:44:55
I don't think he's as good as some make out, but I also don't think he's as bad as you have said in the past (particularly on the podcast).
For what it's worth, I don't believe Slot's "style" of slow, low-risk, build up brings out the best in him, although he has definitely played more under Slot than he did with Klopp so there is that. I also don't think the supposed attacking "tweaks" to the midfield helped any of our defenders in the early stages of the season.
The good thing about him signing a contract is we will probably be able to test our hypotheses and render a somewhat objective conclusion.
Until then, I hope we can agree to disagree.
22 Apr 2026 00:56:39
He's a bit like Lovren to me when he is good he is really good and when he's bad he's complete rubbish. Last year when we trotted to the prem he was top 5 CB in the league, people have short memories.
22 Apr 2026 01:00:40
No club wanted Konate even when he would be on a free in the summer. But we have now given him a contract with supposed higher wages and clubs would need to pay to get him on the future. If he can't even go for free, what makes you think a club would come in with £50m to get him?
22 Apr 2026 05:21:23
He's going to be on an obscene amount of money per week and will probably get replaced in the starting 11 by Jacquet or Leoni.
Konate is no better than Gomez, just fitter, but he's not worth 200k+ per week (guess amount) and probably a 4 year contract or something.
I'd rather Leoni or Jacquet partners VvD and a cheap, experienced CB is bought as 4th or 5th choice with Konate leaving.
22 Apr 2026 06:55:12
Konate staying at Liverpool lacks progress in my opinion. I know he's had a tough year personally and with squad rotation and defensive personnel, I just don't ever see consistency in his personal ability. Disappointed.
22 Apr 2026 09:49:01
I mean if he can't attract another club to get him on a free, what makes people think a club is going to come and pay a transfer fee for him? lol
things can change though ;)
22 Apr 2026 11:10:03
I'm not konate's biggest fan. He can do some great things and some terrible things. I'd prefer a centre back to be consistently good and consistently make good decisions.
However, realistically if he was for sale plenty of teams would buy him. He's a starting centre back for France.
22 Apr 2026 11:59:26
Ed001 do you think the club maybe views extending Konate's contract as an easier/cheaper deal to make than signing a top CB to replace him right now, also giving us the opportunity to get a fee for hm next summer?
Considering there's quite a few holes need filling this window and it's likely the club is very wary of over-spending, the extension gives us enough time for Jacquet to break into the squad, so we can sell Konate next year.
{Ed001's Note - yes, but cheap and easy is rarely, if ever, better.}
22 Apr 2026 12:50:58
Would it be on the official LFC website if it is true he'd signed a new contract? Just asking
22 Apr 2026 12:56:08
Agreed. My hope is that the contract has only been given so as to sell him next year. In which case I think it's a reasonable compromise so long as we spend accordingly elsewhere.
