Hi all,

Slot is set to stay with Liverpool for the foreseeable future. Should his campaign begin well next season, I would not rule out a contract extension.

Edwards wanted Xabi, but since talks faltered, the board's re-evaluation of the situation is that stability is more important. Acquiring Champions League football has been crucial in this thought process.

Our transfer shortlist for the summer is compiled of a list of players Slot has approved and he himself is working behind the scenes to a certain degree in order to establish or maintain relations with these targets.

The cordiality from both the manager's camp and board has allowed this situation to be reached.

While it’s not a certainty that Slot will sign an extension if offered due to his unhappiness in England. Doors are now open.

While the club admires Hoeness, Nagelsmann etc. These are not names I imagine to take over any time soon. They are young and excited managers though and I can maybe see a timeline in the future where that may come to fruition.

My guess for our next manager? If Slot sees out his contract/an extension, I would go out on a whim and say Luis Enrique. He deeply admires Liverpool and has made it clear he wants to manage us at one stage or another.

Hi, VG - thanks for the update. Would it be safe to say the Barcola news is pretty much true, as it was rumoured he was the main player Slot wanted last summer? Any other names been floated around other than Costa and Leao previously mentioned?

01 May 2026 13:50:47
Thx VG.

Think a few people have already said Rodgers mark 2. I think I may agree with them. Tactically inept. Spout rubbish before and after games. Blames everything but himself.

Slot will continue to stink the place out with this dull football, and that barely gets results. Let's face it. Worse Premier League in quality for quite some time.

If half the teams turn a corner with all the new managers coming in, we are back down to 9/10 mid table, writing off 2 or 3 seasons to get back into CL.

Wouldn't surprise me if he got a new contract and sacked before season end.

This decision is worse than the Suarez shirts, and signing Balotelli put together.

VG, sorry, am not buying into all this. I do think people were getting info, but now I think the stuff coming out is just propaganda from the club, and a way to see if the leaks have been sorted out.
I think Slot has been checked out for a while, he has lost the fans and parts of the dressing room. Come June the 1st, he will go on a mutual agreement with some sort of pay off for his final year.
Players want to know what is going on long term, and if Slot was staying he would have been given a new deal by now, but there has been no talks.

Talks between the club and Alonso have been well documented, and that just undermines Slot as a manager.
This season has been just about over since Christmas, and his running of the squad has been truly awful, and we would have to be stupid to believe them above him and the owners don't know this, and he has had plenty of time to change this but hasn't.
When the owners see tickets available still on match days, they will not let that carry on.

01 May 2026 14:22:19
As I thought when I heard he was staying. His deal runs out in 2027 along with Edwards and Hughes. Enrique comes in as a freebie and full manager reigns. He would be a huge coup.

01 May 2026 14:29:05
I just don't know what to say to that news. Anyway, we'll see how this all plays out but, imo, way too many variables need to totally change course in order to make it work. My guesstimate is that it'll all end in tears.

Perhaps I'll be proven incorrect, but my money is on me. Thanks VG. Not what I wanted to hear, but much appreciated nonetheless. Think I'll have a few extra this evening.

9th or 10th ? Mighty Reds??? Our lowest finish in the last 40 years is 8th. And teams, we had some way worse teams than we have now. Not happy he's staying either. Need to get a grip here. Who is knocking us down to 9th or 10th. ?

01 May 2026 14:43:37
Everything does suggest Slot stays, especially with talk of backroom staff changing up.

It could be a help (be honest, it can't be worse, lol).

Who knows, but info like this on such a good site is always welcome, and tbf, as much as it's been a hard watch, in all honesty, it's difficult to pin it all on Slot.

Very few managers can call themselves Premier League winners, and anyone other than Klopp is a gamble.

01 May 2026 14:55:50
He'll be gone by October when we're in 15th place in the League. Inept management at all levels of the club.

01 May 2026 15:03:17
To the people saying Slot is better than Rodgers because Slot won the league, they both got the same number of points (84) and Slot had a significantly better squad.

At least there were a few positives with the performances under Rodgers which are entirely non-existent under Slot.

01 May 2026 15:12:54
Port red. Where did Man U and Spurs finish last season, with all their managers not playing the right tactics, players not responding.

Can I name 8 teams that could finish above us next season, as they are relatively close above us already.

Arsenal
Man C
Man U
A Villa
Chelsea
Everton
Bournemouth
Brighton
Fulham

That's not saying Newcastle, Spurs (if they stay up), Forest, Leeds, all big clubs that can easily push on.

If we don't change the way we play, we are easy to play against, and teams will no longer give us the respect and tentative approach that some still are doing.

01 May 2026 15:52:19
So all the games we managed to win this season are because the teams we were playing showed us too much respect? Does that mean that in your eyes we actually deserve to lose every single game and only have points on the board because of luck? I mean, we were bad this season, but other teams have struggles too.

We have problems, but we also aren't the worst team in the league.

01 May 2026 16:26:06
It beggars belief they are keeping him. If we take out the first five games, which we were lucky to win, we'd have 43 points, same as Palace in 13th, and that's without even mentioning how bad the football is, how the team crumbles after we concede, and the lack of fitness or intensity each game, and that all on the manager.

01 May 2026 16:42:11
But that's not the way it works, Gmil. The points you get for winning games actually count towards your total. Think they've been doing it that way since the game was invented.

01 May 2026 16:44:55
So Slot wanted to go, we wanted him to go, but Edwards couldn't get Alonso so now we are keeping Slot and giving him potentially a contract extension despite him not settling in England?

Yea, these posts are making complete sense...

01 May 2026 16:52:55
Florian, yes, and it shows how bad we have been since.

01 May 2026 16:57:30
Take away Crystal Palace's first 5 games and they would be in the relegation zone. What sort of nonsense logic is this? Your league position is the cumulative number of points you acquire over 38 games; they all count equally.

01 May 2026 17:06:41
I'm pointing out how bad we have been since those 5 wins, 43 points out of 29 games from a team that last season won the league and spent nearly a half a billion in the summer transfer window.

01 May 2026 18:10:14
Can we put up with this boring, pragmatic, soft, slow football for another season? I don't see any success coming from this way of playing.

01 May 2026 18:10:31
Was it not nearer to 400m than 500m?

01 May 2026 19:47:57
Cheers, Victor.

I hope you're wrong.

01 May 2026 20:38:47
Don't worry, FPF, almost all he has said is nonsense.

01 May 2026 22:35:09
@Retire, who said Slot wanted to go? Would it be people putting rumours on a rumours site?

01 May 2026 23:42:59
Forget About Common Knowledge

Aka: F.A.C.K

Apologies, Ed's but my feeling of this and possibly next season

02 May 2026 01:26:22
When has Luis Enrique made clear he wants to manage us at one stage or another?

Serious question, VG. Can't remember anything about that.

02 May 2026 05:45:55
I don't believe this simply because it makes no sense. No offence to VG; appreciate the rumor. I just can't fathom that a snake person would keep Slot.

I honestly think 9/10 will be our ceiling if Slot stays. We can't hope the rest of the league is as poor as they have been this year again and that's the only thing that has saved us this year.

I'll plan to take a year off if Slot stays, but I just can't believe this is true. Slot has to go. There's no way anyone working for a football club can justify keeping: he's produced terrible football, poor management, the loss of the players' fitness, and stubborn insistence on being right.

02 May 2026 07:13:39
Clearly looks like Slot will be in charge next season. The concern is that if we start slow again and do make the inevitable call, we will be left with less choice on who comes in.

There is a brave decision needed. Shame nobody has the balls to make that decision.
