Liverpool and Chelsea have joined the race to sign Nottingham Forest's Brazilian defender Murillo, but the 24-year-old will not be allowed to leave the City Ground in January. (Football Insider)

Can't see another CB arriving any time soon.

do we really need him? think the Club are set now and have very high hopes for Jaquet/Leoni to be the future with Araujo in around the mix and the two young lads that played in pre season.

With both VVD and Gomez contracts expiring next summer, it's possible they both leave. But then we would still have Jaquet, Leoni, Araujo, Ndiaye and Ndukwe. That looks enough, I would think. Unless the club wants to return Araujo and replace with a younger player (Zabarnyi or Murillo as per rumours). I would keep Araujo. Keep at least one senior experienced "anchor" type CB.

"the 24-year-old will not be allowed to leave the City Ground in January"

Gonna make away fixtures a bit tricky.

There are lots of possibilities. Like has been said, Virg and Gomez could easily leave and whilst I suspect that Araujo has already done enough to show that he would be a good signing, he is only on loan and there is no guarantee that he will be here next season. We will also need to see how well Leoni comes back from his injury. Whatever happens, with Jacquet, Leoni, Ndiaye and Ndukwe on the books it is a fantastic foundation to build on but the last 2 are still very young and might even need to be loaned out to get the minutes they require to continue developing to their full potential (I'm very excited about the potential of Ndukwe from what I saw in pre-season).

That said, I'd personally give Virg an extension and bring Araujo in permanently as you need that experience for the younger players to learn from. I wouldn't be looking to sign any other CB's at this time.

While he is a good player that is surprisingly good in the air for his height and a really good left foot, I am not sure Murillo is the guy for defending the large spaces expected of an Iraola defender.

Tall and rangey with a good aerial duel % is the prototype.

He seems to do ok at Nottingham Forest. perhaps they play on a smaller pitch than us, although we don't qualify for UEFA finals or internationals as our pitch is, apparently too small.

05 Oct 2026 14:32:15
Think we have the smallest pitch.

Mightred Kloppers, Virg, Gomez and Araujo could all be on their way come June, we are definitely looking at options to fill those potential voids.

While i do like the idea of Arsenal type fullbacks and Murillos ball progression, i feel he may be too expensive for someone who could get skinned with lots of space behind him.

05 Oct 2026 17:35:34
Fpf and funky, not to sure where you get this from. Murillo is quick enough to deal with space behind him. I am sure I read somewhere he clocked 33kph this season.
He's young, left footed, prem experience good passer and good moving forward with the ball. If we are looking at signing a cb I can't think of anyone better.

05 Oct 2026 18:27:08
Think Virg will be here next year so for me Araujo would be the only arrival. And I even think that's far from a given. A lot will depend on how Ndukwe gets on this season.

05 Oct 2026 19:45:34
We didn't buy a handful of the best young CB's available to bury them under expensive squad buys. Hopefully one will step up.

05 Oct 2026 22:39:57
WestYorkshirered - if you think 33kmph is quick then your argument undoes itself.

06 Oct 2026 03:53:45
Fpf, I said quick enough.
