Ryan Gravenberch:

“I am assuming that I will still be at Bayern next season. That is how I am really in it. I am at a top three club in the world. I think that’s beautiful and special. I am not giving up just like that. My goal is still to succeed at Bayern. ”

This shall pretty much mark the end of Gravenberch's rumours but my word, the guy is a drama queen, more interviews than good performances this season! I would be more than happy if we moved on from him.

Agreed. I have no energy left to pretend to rate poor players after spending a whole month convincing myself Mason Mount was half decent when we were linked with him.

2.) 27 Jun 2023 09:38:44
He is not even as good as Curtis Jones. Poor touch/ close control which is a deal breaker for a Premier League midfielder. He'd get clattered every week just like Jack Wilshere used to, trying to overplay when he lacked the fundamentals to take players on. I don't think i've seen a single person on here list Gravenberch as a player they actually want to sign.

3.) 27 Jun 2023 10:26:30
In terms of the younger potential type midfielder (albeit they are all young! ), I think it will be Veiga personally, if we can get the deal over the line.

The Valverde rumours are interesting, I doubt they have legs given the prices involved, but that would be an awesome signing!

4.) 27 Jun 2023 10:27:26
BTW, I did mention Gravenberch a few days back as one I would like to sign, but based mainly on his potential.

His press outbursts over the last few days have given me drama queen vibes, so I have had a change of heart!

5.) 27 Jun 2023 11:57:55
He talks a lot.

6.) 27 Jun 2023 12:40:44
Hope he does stay at Bayern.

7.) 27 Jun 2023 13:57:45
Or he is just posturing to look good to the Bayern fans so they don't come after him should he leave. Just saying.

8.) 27 Jun 2023 16:36:54
Gravenberch? I’d Rather have Thomas Gravesen ?.

9.) 27 Jun 2023 17:47:49
Oli is right. Have your agent look actively for a new club for you since January, make sure she posts photos of herself visiting those clubs and stadiums, and then profess your undying, eternal devotion and love for the club you are with, because a deal couldn't be struck with someone else.

10.) 27 Jun 2023 19:21:30
Precisely. ArAy. You’re getting really good at this. Just have your agent actively look for a club for you for months while you profess your undying love for the club in public you can’t wait to leave fast enuff, just in case you may have to eat your crow and stay against your initial wishes. Win-Win, right?

11.) 27 Jun 2023 19:52:57
MK you’ve just compared him to Jack Wilshere? It’s like comparing Trent to Pepe Reina, couldn’t be further away. Wilshere was a great player and technician, just ravaged by injury.

12.) 27 Jun 2023 21:18:51
So we’ve decided we don’t like Gravenberch then? It’ll be funny if it’s just a bargaining chip and he signs for us after the Euro U-21’s.

13.) 28 Jun 2023 01:32:49
Olired, I have no choice but to learn new exciting things with guys like you and JK23 around. Not to mention the "extremely knowledgeable football mind for all the ages" known by mere mortals as "Davey Sulls". ?.

14.) 28 Jun 2023 01:53:42
If Gravenbetch can't cut it in the Bundesliga, I don't see how and why he'll cut it in the EPL. There's many reasons he could have a chance at being a success depending on the team, the manager and the system being played. But at the end of the day, the proof is always in the pudding. If you're above the rest, you have to prove it, and not hide in the shadows with excuses.

Maybe he's benefitting from the "Ajax effect"? That club and academy is regularly churning out stellar players since a few decades now, and everyone knows it. Maybe a few average ones get thrown in?

Either way, he's down on my list after Thuram, Kone, and Lavia. 4th choice.

15.) 28 Jun 2023 14:41:59
I'm not impressed with his constant talking to the press, ArAy, he comes across as a bit of an Elvis (ie Pre Madonna), but I would hesitate to say a 21yo can't make it in any particular league.

It's tempting to say so, but then I remember us picking up Couts at the age of 21 from Inter for £8.5m as he wasn't breaking through into that team, and look at how that story played out.

Some players just take a bit longer to settle whereas others are like Gavi, Bellingham or (*spit*) Rooney, to name but a few.

16.) 28 Jun 2023 18:22:03
Zed, I don't pay attention to a lot of what players say nowadays, because most of the time they're being mouthpieces for either club or agent. Last year Gravenberch was my top choice for a midfield purchase. But based on what I have seen of him since then and compared with what I have seen of Thuram, Kone and Lavia, it's just my opinion that he is not as good.

Yeah, players need to "settle". Agreed. But this is where the pragmatist in me kicks in. All players need to go out there and be at their best. Simple. What other justification is there for the lifestyle and bank account they are given? We waited 5 years for Keita to "settle", right?

17.) 28 Jun 2023 20:06:00
Yeah true, if it wasn't for Keita, I'd say trust Klopp. I still do, but there's a Keita-sized hole in my previously impenetrable faith!

As things stand,

Tottenham have more concrete interest in Van De Ven than Liverpool at the moment.
In fact, there are a few unconfirmed rumblings of movement on a different Centre half than VDV.

Ed may know.

Absolutely, Faithinworks.

The fans need to show some spine. It seems like they doubt Salah's loyalty, hence trying hard to sound "logical. "

All of a sudden, it feels like everyone has turned into financial experts and advisors. My word.

Your message is well-written, Fandomonium,

You have made some solid points, although I'd like to touch on that comparison to Wenger. Imo, Klopp has faced these challenges mostly due to a lack of investment year after year.

These are Klopp's latest comments (as posted by WTR on the discussion page) :
"I have all the information, and I know what is possible and what's not, and it's not always exactly what I want. But it's not my job to complain; it's my job to take the team we have at the end of the transfer window and make the best of it. "

Klopp's annual quote on 'I have to make this squad work'.

I mean, we all know 2 more signings and we'll possibly be challenging on all fronts and still it's not happening. It may not happen and then we'll be one injury away from crisis. The owner, management, recruitment team - they all know that. But still no movement, and as a supporter, it's disheartening. We're always so close and yet so far.

Klopp seems to know what to expect from the owners, and fortunately for us, he's willing to work within that framework.

You know why we never have to worry about FFP? It's because FSG's approach is even more restrictive. Such is the bitter irony!

What we do in the remainder of the transfer window will determine whether we're entering a rat race for a top 4 spot or gearing up to conquer on all fronts.

May sound like the Wenger era Arsenal fans, top 4 is not good enough for a team with the quality we have and the best manager in the world.

VVD, Salah, Konate, Alisson, Trent, Robertson, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Jota, Thiago, Mac Allister – that’s a group of players up there with any in the league. It’s almost as if we’ve forgotten how good we are. We’re a signing or two away from being up there with the very best in Europe.

We shouldn’t need to settle. Life always makes you think you have more time than you actually do. By the time we know it, many of those players will be on the wane, our manager will have a year left on his contract, and we’re talking about another rebuilding stage once again.

To be clear, I don't mind getting in an experienced head/ hard worker. But to go from absolutely needing another holding player even with Fab.

To selling Fab and buying a depth option to replace him is absolutely shocking.

It's a depth quality signing we're trying to play off as more.

Imagine telling people at the start of the window we'd sell Fab and only buy Endo as a replacement, oh and also haven't signed a CB either.

If it wasn't acceptable when the window started, it's not acceptable now.

Seems to be a reoccurring trend that expectations and standards get progressively watered down until people are actively praising less than the bare minimum by the end.

We're now at a point because names like Phillips and Gravenberch are listed as options it's almost baiting people to accept waiting for another window instead of getting the reject pile.

It's a shame those have to be our options eh.
