Quick question for a bit of fun, who do people think is going to be the biggest improvement next season, or the most surprising if u like? Kind of like the way lallana came on leaps and bounds this season.
Personally I think wijnaldum is going to be a beast next season! Did a great job last season linking defense to attack and showed I'm glimpses his class with a few goals and passes! Also his work rate is brilliant in that midfield trio! Would be interesting to hear others opinions can be any player no matter how big or small or what position! Also curious if people agree with me on wijnaldum cos I think his input often goes unnoticed or under the radar!

Karius.

2.) 09 Jun 2017 15:21:26
I'm hoping it will be Can and that he'll improve his defensive abilities even further. We have a leadership deficit when Henderson is not playing, and I think Can can provide it if he is given the free reign for it. When fit and in form, he's a fierce tackler with a menacing scowl on his face. The kind that rubs off on teammates and makes the opposition think twice before kicking the ball in his direction.

3.) 09 Jun 2017 15:26:24
Clyne.

4.) 09 Jun 2017 15:27:31
We haven't seen the best of Wijnaldum yet that's for sure, although he had a good season it seemed to me he was holding back in terms of not making mistakes on the ball as it was his first season in front of a very judgemental fanbase and crowd. Think you'll see a lot more forward runs with the ball instead of him looking for the simple pass.

5.) 09 Jun 2017 17:25:25
Studge, he'll be available for the majority of the season and will score a hat full.

6.) 09 Jun 2017 21:16:47
And Lukaku will say he's staying at Everton for 10 years, as he can't wait to play at the new stadium.

Eds hasn't gael clichy been released by man City? Do you think if moreno goes he would be a good addition to get on a free and add some depth at the full back position?

.jak

{Ed001's Note - yes he has but no I do not rate him at all.}

1.) 08 Jun 2017 16:32:22
He is awful and can't defend nor can he attack any longer. Next!

2.) 08 Jun 2017 17:12:58
If we had Sessengon then maybe as a limited time cover and very experienced person to work for. But as we need long term cover, not someone whose struggled when they've played regularly for 2 years now, I'll pass.

Hey all, haven't posted in a while but this whole saga has got me wanting to give my opinion haha.

When the deal for vvd looked like it was going to go thru so many posters were saying waste of money and it was too high a fee and wage, now that it looks like it might be off everyone seems to be back to wanting him again it seems people only want what they can't have! I think the price is one thing but the wage is an entirely other if it's true that it'd be close to 200k per week! That would surely have a knock on effect on some of our other top class players who aren't getting that and in my own opinion I'd rather a happy squad and a balanced book over one central defender! Look at where he came from, Celtic! There are far more footballers out there than him and our scouts need to up their game to find these! Arsene wenger said it well during the week when he was talking about all good signings not being the ones who go for big money, think he was referencing rob holding or something. Anyway the point is if vvd is off it could be a good thing for the club overall and the money could be used elsewhere and the wages wudnt have to be increased across the sqaud. How many people knew of baily before man u bought him? And he's had a pretty good season! There's countless other players I could name, some in our squad too!

Personally I do like vvd but I'm just saying not getting him isn't the end of the world and could be a good thing for the club. If it was up to me I'd be happier getting a top class striker, a winger, a full back and then maybe look at adding a cb or a midfielder depending on outgoings.

Just looking back at some of the strikers who came and went at Liverpool over the years, who was people's biggest let down? Remember such high hopes for morientes after some great seasons at real madrid, eds any ideas why things didn't work out for him after his move to us?

.jak

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't good enough to be honest, plus he never really settled into the UK.}

1.) 28 Sep 2016 15:17:39
The one that I was really realy excited about was Jari Litmanen. I remember thinking, wow he's signed! I thought he was an amazing player and would have really complimented us.

Unfornuately it didn't work out, was it Houlliers fault? I think Litmanen maybe stated he couldn't understand why Houllier didn't play him much.

2.) 28 Sep 2016 15:25:24
Litmanen had a tough time with injuries if I remember correct, but I agree he's another who never lived up to it! Not only with us tho even with Barcelona before! We have had quite a few when u think back at it, some who came with big reputations and some who came fairly unknown, the likes of cisse baros vorinin borini and dare I say it balotelli just in recent history. Thankfully we've had a few brilliant coups in that time too!

3.) 28 Sep 2016 15:32:25
Litmanen was a great player but we got him late in his career. He was probably the best 3rd choice forward we've had in my lifetime - it's a shame he didn't get more chance but was quality when he did.

My biggest dissapointment was Babel. He looked quality as a kid but suffered from the same issue as Wilshere - never really built on the potential.

4.) 28 Sep 2016 15:43:57
Andy Carroll, still our record signing to this day as far as I know, came in with big expectations after being Newcastle's shining light for a couple of seasons, even physically dominating us whenever we played castle. However due to a combination of drunkardness, being overweight and one dimensional it just didn't click. Carroll still is unplayable on his day.

5.) 28 Sep 2016 15:44:34
Carrol.

6.) 28 Sep 2016 16:15:04
I was excited about Robbie Keane! Always spurs best preformer then came to LFC and didn't apply himself correctly. Such a shame as him playing off torres could have been deadly! Massive let down to himself and Liverpool football club.

7.) 28 Sep 2016 16:41:35
Keane and kewell. Keane was a victim of Rafa's poor deployment. A striker played as a winger.

8.) 28 Sep 2016 17:07:19
What exactly happened with Keane?

9.) 28 Sep 2016 17:15:36
Dean Saunders for me. Just never took to him as a Liverpool player. Replacing Beardsley was always going to be a tough ask though.

10.) 28 Sep 2016 17:44:02
Diouf. Before he signed he'd come of the back of a good world cup and then bagged a brace on his debut - and then proceeded to be copmplete poo. Was also a very unsavoury character which only enhanced the overwhelming feeling of dissapointment.

11.) 28 Sep 2016 17:22:57
Has to be Carroll for me he was in fire when he came and I was close to wet dreams of him knocking balls to allow Suarez to do wreck only game where that happens in memory was the cup game vs Chelsea if memory serves me right.

12.) 28 Sep 2016 17:27:29
i think it has to be stan collymore for me, waste of ability with a stinking attitude to go with it.

13.) 28 Sep 2016 17:52:53
Nicholas Anelka comes to mind as well. At the time, he Fowler and Owen would have been a great force but again, Ged reportedly messed that up too as Anelka was keen on staying after his loan.

14.) 28 Sep 2016 18:12:42
As a striker I'd say Cisse.

15.) 28 Sep 2016 19:18:32
Disappointed that we didn't secure anelka. And I also felt cisse's resting b*itch face had a negative impact on how he was perceived lol
But I was most looking forward to Morientes coming. And then I watched him play for us and he was so scrawny and slow! Still rated him but just not built for the prem.

16.) 28 Sep 2016 19:42:50
Balotelli. I think I hoped he would turn a corner with us so much that I let it blind me as to how ill advised it was to sign him.

He should be up there with Drogba as a powerhouse striker, but he just has no desire to improve his game, and even less application on the pitch.

17.) 28 Sep 2016 23:22:12
Bandy Carroll for me. Let down.

18.) 28 Sep 2016 23:51:09
Got to disagree with above posts on Litmanen. Someone closer to the administration at the time can confirm, but my take on his was that he was a great player who just wasn't used enough by Ged.

Litmanen was a great second striker and could have dovetailed much better with Owen than Heskey, certainly by scoring a truck load more goals. However, he just wasnt given the chance. No idea why not.

19.) 29 Sep 2016 05:37:43
I Would Say Charlie Adam. I was delighted we signed him I remember watching him play for Blackpool and thinking he was an excellent player who could pass like Alonso and dictate games. couldn't have been more Wrong Haha.

20.) 29 Sep 2016 10:25:56
Dani Pachecco, really thought we'd got pulled off a master stroke in getting him and that he would be the next big thing from Spain but like every young foreign player we've signed, failed to make the grade!

Is it that our scouts have been crap at finding young foreign talent over the last 20 years, or are we just rubbish at nurturing and developing them?

21.) 29 Sep 2016 12:55:49
Harry Kewell for me. , / 'e in with huge expectations.

22.) 29 Sep 2016 14:00:16
The biggest disappointment for me was Torres leaving, a real blow to the gut. Having been so good for us, to then turn his back on us for a rival was gutting. Fortunately it turned out alright and he was poor from the off for them.

23.) 30 Sep 2016 00:49:49
If we are looking beyond just strikers, my biggest disappointment was Joe Cole. I thought Hodgson had pulled off a huge coup there and people were saying at the time our front three of Gerrard, Torres and Cole was the best in the league.

Obviously nobody played well that season but he never reached the heights he had shown he can at Chelsea.

Just looking at rm and dortmund game, just a draw whereas we beat dortmund when we played them. . how do people think our current squad would get on against real madrid now? Just thinking and looking back last time we met in the champions league and they bet us our starting 11 consisted of mignklet manquillo skrtle toure moreno Allen can lucas lallana markovic and borini. Mad to think only one of those started our game at the weekend crazy how much a team can change in the space of two years and u nearly forget all the players who come and go, even our bench had Gerrard Johnson sterling balotelli etc, I'd be so much more confident facing them this year!

.jak

1.) 27 Sep 2016 22:34:44
I've just been to that game and I think we'd stand a chance against either of them. Not necessarily beat them but at least a chance with the way we are playing.

Madrid were not that good today but took their chances well. Dortmund looked good going forward but not great at the back.

Bale wasn't great but that is more down to Dortmund and the way they controlled the game. 63% possession in the first half against Real Madrid.

Dembele looks like he'll be a world beater one day. Shame we missed out but Mane will have to do! Pulisic was also lively when he came on. Hope we land him in the next few years.

2.) 28 Sep 2016 01:37:41
Id rather have mane anyway :/

Liverpool the way we are playing could give any team a good run for their money, even barca. I believe we're good enough when in this form.

3.) 28 Sep 2016 12:30:39
calm down guys, there's a desperate need for balance on this site. after the burnley game it was all doom and gloom, nothings changed, mid table team etc etc (which was clearly an over-reaction) . now we've won a few games and played great football we can all of sudden take on the real madrids of the world.

one step at a time, there's a long way to go until we find out if our team finishes high enough to have the opportunity to prove you right.

you can't site our game against dortmund as a barometer for how we stack up against madrid. we beat them, it was a special night but we could just as easily draw or lose to them now.

all this expectation hype will lead to another massive over-reaction if we lost a couple of our next games.

one game at a time guys and let's see where we end up!

queue the disagrees ;)

4.) 28 Sep 2016 14:19:24
You may be right but you can't argue that on our current form we can take on anybody? We're playing incredible, yes it's early. All of this means nothing. Point is, against higher profiled clubs we'd give them a good go. To me, we're a much better team now when you compare to the team what beat dortmand. Early or not have some confidence. I do understand your post but try not be so negative.

5.) 28 Sep 2016 16:26:10
he can be hopeful, excited and be realistic, all at the same time, 87red. As for us going against RM and the like, we have no problems with giving these teams a good game in the past and with the team we have now, we are more than a match for anyone more so now than in the past due to Klopp`s ability to outwork and out play and outcoach teams/ managers. Also remember, Klopp has played Real before and they got a right good hiding in one of the 4 times he beat them so if he ain`t scared, I ain`t scared.

6.) 28 Sep 2016 18:00:59
Ha, I'm really not being negative lads. I'm delighted with our form, I'm just keeping my feet on the ground that's all!

I was a bit sceptical when we signed him and even more so when I learned he would be playing in a more central role after playing wide left or supporting sticker anytime I had seen him before. I didn't know if he would have the work rate or desire to help out at the back and crowd out opposition in midfield but I have to say bare his first game or two I've been really impressed so far at how quickly he has adapted and bought into Klopp's style! I think he's still quite new to this role so I'm still expecting more from him in the future but at the minute he seems to do a lot of dirty work around the pitch that might go unnoticed and he seems to already be forming a good partnership with lallana and our attacking players! Still would like to see can and grucic get a few more games but as long as the team in winning with him playing a vital position he can't be doing too much wrong and others are just going to have to wait their chance to shine!
