So FSG have another Coutinho moment to think about. Do we sell Salah to fund new signings? £70-£80 million would be tempting for me and buy a top defender and midfielder instead.

Alright Casey mate, it must be good stuff whatever your smoking to even think about selling the only player who guarantees us 20 goals a season sure they money would be great but who's going to score the goals for us. Sell Salah not in a million years mate have a chat to yourself there good lad.

FSG don't decide on who to buy or who to sell. The club is the one that will be making that decision.

Personally, I won't sell Salah. We don't have anyone currently who can replace him so we would need to spend a huge chunk of what he brings in on his replacement, who would most likely not be as good as him.

60-70 million!?!?!?

For our most creative and lethal player in the team!?!? Who do we buy to replace his contributions for 60 million!?!? There's certainly no one in our team, with his end product, consistency or availability. I also can't see 60 million covering a top midfielder and defender, it would only supply us with enough for one of those. And even then, we would probably have to spend more on top. That is the market now, everything is inflated, for everyone.

I also can't see anyone currently capable of replacing Salah's contributions in world football, not available at least, and especially not for the money described. We are fortunate to have a player of this quality, he can be relied upon to get us the goals we need. Has proven it season after season, no matter what is happening around him.

We need to keep Salah, during this period of transition, then consider his sale next season right as the transfer window starts to allow us to prepare properly. We can't have a repeat of this mess we are currently experiencing, where everything is happening too slowly, and the season is immediately upon us. We need to plan, for once, and be proactive instead of reactive.

Salah could also encourage a bidding war from Saudi Clubs desperate to get a hero from the middle east. We should be looking for 100+ million when we do sell. I suspect a lot of Saudi Clubs will pay over the odds to win the race, he will become the figurehead of the Saudi League when he does arrive, someone middle eastern fans can connect with and inspire to be as he is one of their own.

07 Aug 2023 08:32:46
OP, this is becoming embarrassing to the point of the utter ridiculous. FSG have nothing to do with transfers. Also, we will not be selling Salah this season cos it is Klopp who decides who stays and who goes and if Klopp still wants his best player to stay, he will stay. FSG have didn’t squat to do with it.

5.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 08:34:53
If Fabinho is worth £40m to the Saudi clubs then how would Salah only be worth £60m? Genuinely one of the current top 10 forwards in world football. They can do one.

6.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 08:39:55
Can’t even replace Fabinho, never mind our best player.

Bill Koch - “The Red Sox are one of the most powerful brands in American sport.

They've been transformed into underdogs by an owner content with a midtier payroll and a chief baseball officer who is risk averse.

John Henry and Chaim Bloom are making this team smaller. It's disappointing. ”

It must just be a coincidence. Right?

FPF it has nothing to do with them, unless thy win the World series and get to walk around the Fenway pitch with cigars in mouth and Baseball caps on head. Do people honestly think if a crazy bid came in for Salah the owners wouldn't have a say in whether its accepted or not?

10.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 09:29:55
I think if we sell Salah to the Saudi league I think we would get close the triple that. He is the greatest player to come from Arabic countries and would be a massive star there so I think we would get around £150m for him if Kane is going for close to £100m with only 1 year left on his contract and even though Salah is a year older am sure he will play at the highest level longer than Kane as injuries have all ready affected how he plays.

11.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 09:47:34
Sorry FPF, didn’t FSG’s stewardship win the Red Sox their first World Series in 86 years (and several since) and our first premier league ever? Must just be a coincidence.

It’s a no from me.

13.) 07 Aug 2023

Pelican, no it isn’t, IMO. Several years ago, the Red Six had the highest wage bill in the whole MLB which doesn’t have a salary cap unlike the NFL or the NBA. During that time, the Red Sox ruled the roost competing and winning the World Series and cherrypicking players for fun to the point of of leaving the hated and richer NY Yankees as an after thought.

Of course over the years, things like that won’t last and will even itself out cos the formerly useless Houston Astros are now doing bits. Also, the Red Sox may had made a couple of bad player trades along the way but if you understand American Sports, other teams will get better esp in MLB where there is so much money to play withheld, no team stays on top forever. Even the New England Patriots with Tom Brady and coach Bellicheck went a full decade without winning a Super Bowl.

Therefore to me, this could be just some people crying and lamenting cos their team isn’t the top dog anymore, something clearly no other fan base of a team who used to be on top has ever done. Every team esp in the MLB goes thru this big or small. Again, just my opinion.

Oli aren’t you on holiday and really relaxed about the summer ?

I’ve never seen someone so relaxed react so much.

Enjoy your holiday and chill.

Congratulations on getting your own page as well.

When I read about this first, I read it as 155m and I was thinking you know what, we should think about this carefully. I don’t want to lose salah, but his age/ wages we should think about offers, then I read it more closely, we’re (supposedly) being offered 50-60m with salahs salary being 155, they are having a laugh! No way at that price (& probably still no at 155)

16.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 10:06:51
Personally, I am open to selling Salah but only if the right offer comes in, not because he is past it, but because it is the right time to cash in on a highly valuable asset and reinvest in the squad a la Countinho.
However, I just cannot see Salah moving to Saudi at this time. From interviews and reports, he is extremely ambitious and wants to win the biggest trophies and tournaments. I just don't think he would accept not competing at the highest level.
Lastly, the rumoured fee of up to £80m just isn't enough for a player of his calibre. Not only is he a very good player, but in terms of marketing and publicity he would bring to that league, he surely has to be valued over £100m at least.
He can certainly sill contribute massively this season, so ideally keep him and see where he is at next year.

{Ed025's Note - you dont sell your best players if you want to win things stuie, forget about monetary value mate its their worth to the team thats important..

17.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 10:48:40
There are 11 positions on a pitch. the Coutinho money was used to buy the Best in the World in two of those positions, when they were at a great age. I very much doubt we would be able to repeat that feat.

18.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 10:50:10
I disagree Ed - you make the most of your best players before moving them on to reinvent the squad. Why sit on an asset such as Salah until his value has diminished whilst he collects an obscenely high wage and declines year on year. Regardless of what people say, Salah is not a machine, he will begin to decline due to age.
I am not saying it is correct, but I think it is correct for LFC due to how the club is managed ie sell to spend.

{Ed025's Note - but he is your top scorer stuie and probably most assists, he also takes two players out of the game on most occasions as well, sell him when he is not doing the business i would say mate..

19.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 10:57:15
no way selling Mo now, and definintely not for that price lol.

20.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 11:18:13
We are playing football not a game of assets management, sell our most valuable and consistent player to bring in money for what? To buy someone who is not as good? Keep your best players and sell players that don’t strengthen your starting 11…can you imagine Barcelona selling Messi when he was in his prime just to bring in money, honestly it’s madness! If fans of Liverpool have to consider selling there star player so the can afford to bring in a CB and midfielder then the club is in a poor state and the owners need to leave immediately! We have been challenging and winning major honours for the last 5+ years.

21.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 12:11:52
I don't see the issue of selling a player to help fund other purchases. But specifically for Mo - at this stage of the pre-season and given the number of departures, selling him wouldn't make sense on a number of levels.

22.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 12:16:56
Too lose Salah now would be a disaster ed025 is right you don’t sell your best players
Up the pool.

23.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 12:13:56
I wouldn’t sell him this summer.
If our offence players all kick on this year and maybe Nunez in particular realises his full potential and starts banging them in for fun, then maybe, just maybe would I entertain a silly bid for Salah next summer, but that would also depend on his form as well, he’s so fit you could probably realistically get 5 more years out of him, but is he starts to fade, and the moneys there and there’s a replacement available? Who knows.

24.) 07 Aug 2023

Is Egypt classed as an Arabic country?
I thought it was African ?‍♂️

Anyway, Lavia is £50m so Salah must be £150 million.

{Ed002's Note - You are wasting your time explaining Ron. Arabic is simply a language - often spoken by all of the Middle Eastern countries in Europe - like Saudi Arabia.}

25.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 12:22:15
If we were to sell Alison and Vvd along with Mo we’d have the lowest wage bill out of all the top 6 sides.

What an achievement that would be. Surely up there with the near quadruple season.

26.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 13:06:58
We're not a mid tier side though.
Sell Salah? No chance.

27.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 13:09:55
Just to point out there's a few posters saying Mo is Arab etc etc the dude is from Egypt which is a complete different contenent.
That's why he will be off to the afcon.

28.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 13:32:23
Pretty sure I said hold onto him this season and see where he is at next year as in performances etc. And yes, despite what you might think, we are playing asset management because that's all players are. Unfortunately Salah doesn't love you Dow-ney or any other fan, he is merely an employee of the club who had a monetary value.
Sure, we can hold on to him until he runs his contract down and then everyone can moan about how the club is useless at contract management etc etc.
As I said, it is not perfect, but for the supposed way this club is run, it makes sense to consider a major offer next year for the player, especially as Ed002 has stated how he has been pretty desperate for a major move the last few years anyway.

29.) 07 Aug 2023
07 Aug 2023 17:28:16
Geographically, Egypt is classified under the African continent. The Egyptian people, culture and traditions are strictly Arab. Go ahead and tell an Egyptian he's African and he will punch you in the face. (I was born and raised in the Middle East, so a fair idea of what "Arab" means) .

{Ed002's Note - Didn’t say Arab, but Arabic.}

Jude Nkunku when Barcelona flashed the cash at FSG for Coutinho, people thought they would interfere and sell him to keep the profit. We all know that didn’t happen. FSG did not interfere and handed Klopp the authority he still has, to make the final decision of either trying to keep him or let him go. We all knew about it one this forum at the time. We sold Cou and reinvested the cash and the rest is history.

So based on that evidence, the answer to your question is No. Once again, FSG do not interfere with transfers nor decide on who stays and who goes so if a big bid for Salah came, they will not interfere and let the guy they hired to make such decisions do his job.
