Our man Sepp with the winner for Mainz yesterday, ready made Matip replacement there if the club so wish.

Jude Nkunku

1.) 18 Feb 2024 11:47:13
Agreed Nkunku, hope he gets a chance but many seem to think he won't which would be a shame. Deserves a chance at least I think.

2.) 18 Feb 2024 12:16:41
Don’t see why he’s not at least given a chance pre season .

3.) 18 Feb 2024 13:37:15
He is no where near a ready made replacement for Matip in my opinion. We are talking about a player that Klopp selects more often than not when he’s fit.
Gomez would have more chance of replacing Matip but I would expect a new manager to go and buy a replacement.

4.) 18 Feb 2024 15:13:00
The lad ( sepp) seems to be making a career for himself why would you or him want him to come back to be 5th choice . He sounds like he cracking on good luck to him.

5.) 18 Feb 2024 15:41:59
Meant more a 4th choice centreback Irish. Mentioned Matip because his contract is up. Should get the chance this summer to see if the new manager reckons he can offer more than gomez or quansah. if he doesn't fair enough he will be sold for a decent price.

6.) 19 Feb 2024 12:33:19
@Dhfc, the lad’s had about 4 pre-seasons with us and the club will be monitoring him and his situation for all the loans he has had with other clubs. The club will know if he is good enough to make our first team squad.

7.) 20 Feb 2024 07:57:08
Neither here nor there but I’ve not really read anything about his defensive ability or readiness to replace Matip until this goal. Prisoner of the moment?

Always hopeful for our own players tho.

8.) 21 Feb 2024 18:23:02
I am always amazed by the names people offer up to replace Matip.
When fit, he is second choice. It's like half of you never watched him play. He is a superb defender.

Sepp will have his every game monitored he's been on loads of pre-season tours - the club know how good he is and if he is good enough at all.

Look at Bradley - the know what he can do - he's in the squad. Long term loans are less likely to make it.

13 Feb 2024 11:54:15
Do Mainz have a buy option with Van Den Berg? And how exactly does that work? Do Lfc HAVE to sell him if Mainz are interested?

Jude Nkunku

{Ed002's Note - Sepp van den Berg (CB) He won't get a chance at Liverpool and will likey be sold in the summer to taise funds. There is no option to buy.}

1.) 13 Feb 2024 15:30:15
Showing some impressive stats in a poor team this season. With Xabi playing 3 at the back were going to need 5 senior centrbacks, maybe he'll get a chance to impress in pre-season.

2.) 13 Feb 2024 15:53:23
Actually Xabi plays 5 at the back 2 holding midfield players and 2 up front.

3.) 13 Feb 2024 16:33:29
So Xabi doesn’t need 11 players usually?

4.) 13 Feb 2024 17:36:29
Apologies Alwaysred, im aware of how he plays. Three or five with wingbacks, just assumed people would know what i meant. If only Xabi didn't insist with only using 10 players he'd be totally slaughtering teams.

5.) 13 Feb 2024 19:17:49
What separates Sepp from the other youngsters that do well on loan, and why would he not be given a chance? Matip's days are surely done, and we are certainly giving youth a chance of late.

6.) 14 Feb 2024 06:15:45
Shame if what Ed says is correct. As said if Alonso comes and implements his style we will need more CB's and he seems suited to the role of a back 3.

{Ed001's Note - Xabi always played a back 4 before taking over at Leverkusen, there is nothing to say he will want to use a back 3 anywhere else. It will depend on the players at his disposal.}

7.) 14 Feb 2024 08:44:10
If he is to leave all I hope is that we don’t try to over price him and leave him floundering on loan for another 3 seasons.

8.) 14 Feb 2024 09:18:04
Alonso can use different tactics. The 3 at the back is because of the players he has and the league. It doesn't mean he'd do the same at LFC.

9.) 14 Feb 2024 09:45:05
I know Alonso is favourite to take over next season and certainly the vast majority of fans want to see it happen but this thread does feel more than a little bit presumptuous.

10.) 14 Feb 2024 09:53:30
Alonso plays the back 3 to compensate for Grimaldo, Frimpong, Stansic lack of ability to defend well he let's them have the freedom to get up the pitch where they are better.

11.) 14 Feb 2024 13:05:12
I think Alonso plays with a back 3 and 2 wing backs as that is what he has at his disposal. In the Liverpool team he won't have that, his ethos and tactics will stay as in short passing and possession but formations are fluid and change frequently, it's not something I would get caught up on to be honest.

Linked to Schuurs, any truth to it Eds?

Jude Nkunku

{Ed002's Note - Try searching.}

1.) 27 Apr 2023 11:04:43
Ed002 confirmed interest but the price is high (€50m from memory) . He's a good player though. On pure defensive qualities he is a better player than Ndicka. Ndicka is more versatile though and obviously cheaper.

I've not seen him play since he moved to Torino but at Ajax I always thought he looked better for them than De Ligt ever did. He just missed the hype train that their 18/ 19 semi final heroes (Donny, De Ligt, De Jong, Ziyech) got a ticket on, despite them all being remarkably average.

2.) 27 Apr 2023 23:10:54
@MKS Why do you see Frenkie De Jong as average? I don't watch Barcelona so no idea what he is like but have heard good reports about him.

3.) 28 Apr 2023 08:44:01
phil, he's just a bit of a fraud in my opinion. Got a neat touch and turn in him but his passing is average, he can't defend overly well, he doesn't score enough, he doesn't create enough etc. Over rated rather than being terrible. It says it all that he struggles for game time ahead of a declining Busquets and a couple of teenagers (however talented they are) . De Jong isn't a bad player but I'd expect a lot more from a player who cost that much and is on his insane salary. I haven't seen him play well since he left Ajax.

4.) 28 Apr 2023 20:17:34
We've been watching Schuurs since he was a teenager.

06 Apr 2023 10:32:09
Leopold Wahlstedt Eds, any interest? Seems like a highly rated and also cheap young Kelleher replacement.

Jude Nkunku

{Ed002's Note - Leopold Wahlstedt (G) Out of contract at the end of 2023. Getting a Work Permit would likely be very difficult. Interest of Reading moved on.}

1.) 06 Apr 2023 12:13:47
Don’t we have enough goalkeepers? Pitaluga, for example. And I am sure there is another promising youngster. As well as Adrian.

2.) 06 Apr 2023 12:25:45
SEA, we might only have Alisson soon.

Kelleher will probably leave for game time and Pitaluga might as well according to Ed002. Adrian is out of contract and it's unclear if he'll be getting a new one.

There is another kid called Harvey Davies. He's good enough to be 3rd choice in my opinion but making him 2nd choice would be a huge gamble.

3.) 06 Apr 2023 13:04:06
Replacing Adrian with a home grown veteran would make sense while we build Davies and/ or Pitaluga opportunities up like we did with Kelleher over the last three years.

{Ed077's Note - I hear Harvey Davies is a good looking chap?

4.) 06 Apr 2023 13:34:11
We've been looking at Ron-Robert Zieler in case Adrian leaves and at Bart Verbruggen for when Kelleher leaves.

5.) 06 Apr 2023 15:18:25
Being a reserve is a completely different mindset from being a starter or a developing youth keeper. I'm not sure it serves Marcelo or any of the young keepers well to be the primary backup right now, and you're not going to want your primary backup playing youth games in order to keep their rhythm. You want a guy who is mentally strong enough to sit for months and then answer the call and start 4-5 games in a row, and give you a chance in those games too. Could be the difference in a title race.

6.) 06 Apr 2023 19:06:29
I think a lot of it depends on the individual and their physical and mental capabilities. Kelleher was pretty young (for a goalkeeper) when he made his debut but he has always looked the part and Donnarumma was about 12 when he made his debut. Pitulaga and Davies are pretty young but might still have the attributes. A bit like the old saying that if you are good enough you are old enough.

7.) 06 Apr 2023 20:51:49
What are peoples thoughts on keeping Kelleher and selling Alison?

8.) 06 Apr 2023 22:12:01
A goalkeeper is only as good as the defence in front of him so they say. Financially you would get a lot more money for becker, so Jurgens self generated transfer kitty will be a lot higher.

With Kelleher in goal would we be substantially in a weaker position, his past performances have proved otherwise.

If it means two good midfield players sign with Kelleher in goal, or one good midfield player signs if becker in goal, i would think its a low risk but high gain with Kelleher in goal as he has never let the club down.

9.) 07 Apr 2023 02:10:37
Don’t be silly.

14 Mar 2023 11:58:36
Anton Stach Eds, liverpool interested?

Jude Nkunku

{Ed002's Note - Anton Stach (DM/CM) Mainz are aware that Spurs and West Ham are scouting DM players for the summer and that both have sent scouts to watch Stach. West Ham are beginning to recognise the reality of losing Declan Rice and need to improve their recruitment methods that see them stumble from window to window. Borussia Dortmund have spoken to his club as they expect to miss out on Manu Kone.. Mainz will listen to offers as they look to trim their bloated squad.}

1.) 14 Mar 2023 16:40:52
Year left, in the German squad for a reported £12m. Would have been a good shout, pity there's no interest.

2.) 14 Mar 2023 21:05:13

3.) 14 Mar 2023 21:49:40
Not wanting to rub more salt into the wounds of man utd after the recent 7-0, but on todays date 14 March in the year 2009 we beat man utd away by the date 1-4 the goal scorers (torres, gerrard, aurelio, dossena) . We should have won the prem that year also, as we were the best team in the league.

Lest we forget!

{Ed025's Note - if you were the best team in the league you would have won it bond, its not rocket science mate..

4.) 14 Mar 2023 22:05:44
Oh Ed025 I am your number one supporter and back up when these LFC posters gang up on ye, after that disappointing reply i am filing for a divorce, am not ye friend any more i want me toys back as well and me ball!

Nighty Night Ed025, I might forgive ye tomorrow? depends if we win or get beat against real madrid?

{Ed025's Note - you get beat mate.. :)

5.) 15 Mar 2023 00:26:23
Thanks 007 and your divorce from Ed25 is in the post!

6.) 15 Mar 2023 08:36:20
"Thank You" for the reassurance Ed001.

Having slept in different beds last night, i have forgiven him as he's not a bad egg after all.

Once again thanks for the reassurance that it arrived safely as one never knows these days.

Off to the quayside Crown Plaza Hotel now, which is next to the famous Liver Building for me daily swim and gym.

{Ed001's Note - clearly Ed25s eggs are bad that's why he ended up supporting the blues.}

7.) 15 Mar 2023 07:21:00
Any idea where Kone is going then eds2?

{Ed002's Note - Manu Kouadio Kone (CM/DM) Prior interest of Milan has gone. Newcastle did approach Borussia Muenchegladbach but they will resist a sale and try and agree a new deal, but Newcastle remain keen. RBL are keen to add Kone to replace Laimer. Bayern Munich are light on DM and CM and are looking to add Kone and Laimer in the summer. Borussia Dortmund see him as a Bellingham replacement if he leaves in the summer. Not first choice for Chelsea but Vivell will push for him - which could spell the end for Ngolo Kante or Loftus Cheek. Watched by a number of other Premier League sides including West Ham, Manchester United, Liverpool and Brighton. A wildcard maybe PSG. Player wants Chelsea move.}

8.) 15 Mar 2023 13:50:46
I'd choose Kone over pretty much every midfielder we have been linked with, bar Caicedo. Seems like the club doesn't necessarily see a need for this profile of player and continues to target more technical players.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect he will get his wish and move to Chelsea.}

9.) 15 Mar 2023 14:16:18
That's a shame for us, Ed.

Kone will be a great foil for Enzo - and at a pretty good price too.

The sooner we get that sporting director in, the better as we're shopping like Juventus and Barcelona these days.

Any news on whether Mo trained with the 1st team or not as planned yesterday?

Jude Nkunku

1.) 06 Mar 2024 07:25:59
The cynical side of me thinks that he won’t play until the Egyptian FA’s deadline for him to prove he is fit to play for them passes.

2.) 06 Mar 2024 07:52:10
Salah will play against Man City. No one will be holding him back.

3.) 06 Mar 2024 08:11:52
no point having him from April onwards if we lose to City.

4.) 06 Mar 2024 09:15:39
I don’t get this ‘have to win’ mentality against City. Sure if we win it puts us in a good position but if we lose we are still in a good position.

Win, lose or draw we are still in this title race.

5.) 06 Mar 2024 09:37:26
BP whilst that may be true, this for me is a must not lose more then it is a must win.

Win gives us a game bufffer with both chalengers facing each other sooon after
Draw keeps it in our hands
Loss hands all momentum to City and then rely on them to slip, we know all too well how that ends up!

Whilst a loss would keep us in it technically I think it'd be a huge momentum swing and may knock the confidence of the side.

6.) 06 Mar 2024 09:42:51
If City win they go clear, and have an easier run in then us.
So we lose, then the league is definitely gone, especially as Arsenal can also go past us.

{Ed025's Note - my biggest concern is that the "derby" could be a pivotal game for both Merseyside clubs Dean, its now been moved to very late in the season and it could end up with either us costing you the title...or you sending us down mate, the one thing thats for certain is that i wont be attending that game..

7.) 06 Mar 2024 09:56:04
6 point swing BP so very important, it would mean we can afford to drop points elsewhere. Although I do agree we are still in a good position if we don't win.

8.) 06 Mar 2024 09:57:56
This title race is crazy and must be great for the neutral and shows why the premier league is the best in the world.

It’s being billed as the title decider between Liverpool and City but by the time it kicks off on Sunday it could be 2nd v 3rd and at the final whistle either club could be 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

9.) 06 Mar 2024 10:22:07
@BP, Im with @WYred on this one. It is a Must Not Lose game. I know what the stakes are and I know we have to go for the win from the off and Im with all of that, for sure. However, you want to make sure that whatever happens, that game has to end with City still being behind us in the table. That is SUPER important, IMO.

Cos even tho we are favorites, we can still lose that game to City and that would be a huge blow esp. mentally to our team and the fans. Sorry, we can't have that happen. If you can't win the game then, you better make sure you don't lose it. Just my take.

10.) 06 Mar 2024 10:24:11
Do you genuinely see yourselves in position of going down Ed025? Don't count your chickens to be fair and all that, but I think you'll be safe by then.

{Ed025's Note - i would like to think so Dan but our club is in such a mess mate, from more points deductions to new ownership by what sounds like a very dodgy investment company it could all go tits up, its very worrying times for us and it looks like the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off i would say..

11.) 06 Mar 2024 10:27:15
I couldn’t disagree more Dean.

To say if we lose the title is gone is just your own insecurity talking. The fact is if we lose we are 2 points behind the leaders with 30 points still to play for.

It’s far from done.

I just hope that our team doesn’t have the same attitude as some of our fans.

12.) 06 Mar 2024 10:37:59
It’s a massive 3 points however you look at it.
With City looking strong it’s hard to see how they will drop more points than us if we lose against them this week.
But you never know.
Just hope we go out there with the mentality of smashing them rather than playing for a draw.

13.) 06 Mar 2024 11:05:54
Amazing the City are flying narrative, what have they taken maybe ONE more point than us in the league since xmas? although saying that i do think we have to come out of Sundays game still ahead of them.

14.) 06 Mar 2024 11:16:41
We've got a game Thursday first.

Bit annoying we have to go to Prague before potentially the biggest game of our season against City, who are playing at home a day earlier.

Kind of hoping for a second string starting 11 Thursday with hopefully Mo, Szob and Nunez getting some time on later as subs. Oh hang on. second string. we're already playing our second string!

Bumpy ride ahead I feel. Personally, despite what happens on Sunday I don't believe it will decide the title. We still have Spurs at home, Everton, Fulham and Villa away which are all tough so even if we win. I don't expect any of those games to be easy. we've seen enough of Fulham already this season to know they cause us problems!

Just keeping fingers crossed and crossing each game off when it's been won!

15.) 06 Mar 2024 11:18:33
The match against City is a must win. There is simply no other acceptable result if we are to win this league. We have a few banana skins coming up in the remaining fixtures. City won't be dropping any more points this year unless we take them off them. Arsenal won't be dropping many points, unless of course that is to city. We have to win its as simple as that. And I believe we will spank them personally.

16.) 06 Mar 2024 11:24:04
The negativity on here is amazing! It's a big game this weekend but it's just 1 game from a total of 38.

Win, lose or draw, the league won't be decided this weekend. We could be top and 4 points clear or we could be 3rd 2 points off the top - either way there will still be a quarter of the season to go and the other 2 teams will still have to play each other.

Arsenal are currently 3rd and 2 points off the top - should they be considered out of contention?

I suspect Arsenal and City fans are looking at us concerned that with 14 first team players unavailable we are still winning game after game and we are only going to get stronger as more players come back.

17.) 06 Mar 2024 11:59:42
ShipleyKopite, I fully agree with you and others saying that losing would NOT end our title hope. At the same time, getting the 3 points does not guarantee anything either on the other side. I just think the mental damage a loss (not a draw) can do to the team esp. with 12 to 14 senior players out, could be consequential, IMO. Like I said, if you can't win the game then, you better make sure you don't freaking lose the game.

18.) 06 Mar 2024 12:20:59
I agree JK - great for the neutral and City are away to Liverpool and home to a rampant Arsenal in their next 2 league games, who honestly knows what the league will look like in the next couple of weeks

Full credit to Arsenal too, were behind in their goal difference and have fairly turned that around too lol - should be a cracking end to the season, with us 1st, Arsenal 2nd and City 3rd ideally haha but a great watch for neutrals.

19.) 06 Mar 2024 13:21:15
I definitely wouldn#t want the title win to hinge on a derby against Everton where anything could happen
Plus I'd rather see Everton stay up, so would be a bit sad to see them go down!

{Ed025's Note - hopefully you have won it by then Dean and you go easy on us mate..

20.) 06 Mar 2024 13:29:37
The City game is a chance to put some breathing space between us and them, so it is must win. A defeat effectively hands them the title as they’re extremely likely to go on and have a run of consecutive wins like they’ve done every other year and a draw brings Arsenal back into it, which we don’t want to do.

21.) 06 Mar 2024 14:48:43
The only difference in the run-in is we play Everton, Sheffied U and Man U, they play Arsenal, Luton and Forest. The other teams on each list of games are the same. Home or away doesn't matter as they are all winable for us in my red tinted view.

22.) 06 Mar 2024 17:52:45
It’s a must win game.

{Ed025's Note - im with the "must not lose" brigade LFC8..

23.) 06 Mar 2024 18:40:43
Exactly, Ed25. If we draw, Arsenal goes top on GD. With 10 games to go and with them playing at the Empty Crate at City next week, I can live with that.

IMO, We have to make sure City are still behind us (by 1 or 4 points and preferably 4 points) by the full time whistle cos we go top if we beat Brighton cos any result at the Etihad (a draw, hopefully) will keep us top for that week. And until Arsenal show that they can handle the pressure of a run-in esp. with that brutal schedule they have (City, Brighton, Spurs and Utd all away from home), It's us and City.

24.) 06 Mar 2024 18:41:07
City have proven season after season they are near faultless in the run in. We need to be as well and frankly I don't think we have that level of consistent performance in our locker like they do. We might be winning, but relying a lot of last minute winners etc. Yes it all counts and shows a level of grit and guts but we don't blow teams away as regularly as they do. That leads me to think that we are more likely to drop points to lower teams than they are, so for me I think we need the buffer a win against them would bring. We can beat anyone on our day, but City's consistency is scary good. That Klopp, one of the best managers the league has ever seen, has only 1 league title is testimony and evidence of that. Must win for me.

25.) 06 Mar 2024 18:46:27
Arsenal and City will win the majority of their games, so it absolutely is "must not lose".

If we beat them, I think momentum will carry us over the line.

26.) 06 Mar 2024 19:49:22
Weren’t city supposed to win every game before? Until Chelsea drew at the Emptyhad? And now they are going to win every game again?

Westwood, when was the last time City blew anyone away? They got lucky against Bournemouth a couple of weeks ago, they deserved something from the game. Everton reduced them to no shots on target for 70 minutes. They are really not flying right now.

They won’t win every game. I guarantee it.

This weekend will not decide the title either way. In fact we are the team that should not be fearing a defeat. We are only 2 points behind if we lose, they are 4 points behind if they lose.

It’s a must not lose for City but not for us.

27.) 06 Mar 2024 20:33:12
Ed025 I think we must win Sunday and then we must win Brighton because it’s straight after the international break then I think the league e we old be ours.
As for the blue side I can see you losing a couple more points but the forest losing 6 with the ffp. You have had a bad run of results but there has been a lot of tough games in there and we some better fixtures coming up you will be very safe my friend.
But from next season you have got to some how find a striker to add goals to your team because with the looks of Leicester and Leeds coming up that looks a stronger league.

{Ed025's Note - its not just a striker we need grino, it would not matter if we had Salah up front mate because without service no striker will score, our midfield is so blunt and ineffective especially the way Dyche sets us up, our players are not good enough offensively and only a change of personnel will change that but with our financial plight its become a catch 22 scenario im afraid..

28.) 06 Mar 2024 21:28:48
Ed025, I understand its not ideal but don't Everton have a few promising youngsters to promote? At least to provide an option from the bench for now? Everton always had a few that showed something. I appreciate a relegation battle isn't an ideal Start but needs must.

I understand though about the midfield, part of that has to be the manager and set up though.

Think we may need to win as I don't see either dropping many points apart from their own game against each other.

{Ed025's Note - Dyche has done a sterling job for Everton Ben but he is not very expansive, we have a couple of promising forwards like Dobbin and Chermiti but they dont seem to get the chance mate, and even if they get on its usually in the 88th minute or so, but he sees them every day and we dont so its hard to complain, i think the game on Sunday for the reds is massive, if they win i think the title is yours, draw and its still game on, lose and i would have to fancy city, just my opinion though..

29.) 06 Mar 2024 21:42:14
I'm predicting City will walk all over Arsenal at the Etihad. I think it'll be a big score. Happy to be wrong on that, especially if it's a draw.

City are definitely capable of winning the rest of their matches, especially if they beat us on the weekend.

30.) 06 Mar 2024 22:37:02
I generally agree regarding the game on Sunday, but we just have to take it one at a time.

I agree with Dyche, said he was the exact right appointment although as you say not the most expansive. You are set up properly defensively now. Could do with a couple of signings if possible. maybe you have to sacrifice Oana or DCL to get some new blood on.

31.) 06 Mar 2024 23:23:15
"City have proven season after season they are near faultless in the run in".

Sorry, none of that is true cos we are not even in the run-in yet. Most impotantly, they have not been faultless this season by any stretch. They have drawn way too many games at the Empty Crate to begin with. Spurs, Chelsea, Palace and us. That's 8 points dropped already at home. We've dropped 4 points.

In fact vs Palace, they bottled a 2 goal lead and Palace equalised in the final 10 mins. Did I also mention that they lost away at Villa in December as well as Wolves and Arsenal? That ain't faultless, bro.

Now does that mean we they aren't favorites for the title? no cos they are. Just saying that the whole"City can go on a 15 game winning run" has never happened at any point this season. Will it happen? We shall see.

32.) 07 Mar 2024 01:21:31
In these pivotal match-ups, especially in seasons where the race has been tight, I feel like we've not taken the race by the scruff of the neck and taken all 3 points. Would love to see us get the 3 points and take control of the race.
Massive couple of weeks with City to play Arsenal soon too.

Good news is that win, lose or draw we're not out of the race. But it would be nice to be holding the steering wheel!

33.) 07 Mar 2024 07:40:38
OilRed. it is completely true. Read what it says, faultless in the run in. The Palace game is not of any significance. That game was not in the run in which begins on Sunday. In previous seasons they have been near perfect in the last 12 games of the season. That is fact look at the stats. They simply do not loose and almost certainly win. Liverpool need a draw and 11 wins from their last 12 games as thats, at the very least, what City will get.

34.) 07 Mar 2024 09:46:29
BP - you're right, the title isn't won or lost in this game. But it is still a pivotal game. In those two seasons we came second by a point, we didn't beat City once across those 4 matches.

To me when it's that close, it's arguable that the head to head match-up is what really defines the season. And we didn't take enough points off of them when we played them.

I would like to see us take the bull by the horns and take all 3 points. It would be such a huge boost for the team heading into the international break with a 4 point gap on City and then with City to play Arsenal straight out of the break and the potential to extend that lead further.

Whilst it obviously wouldn't be won or lost after this match a result for either will have a massive swing in the winner's favour.

35.) 07 Mar 2024 10:59:39
Edd 25 - agree he’s done a very good job. I think he doesn’t play an expansive way of football because of the personnel he has. Hope he gets money and time to improve the squad.

{Ed025's Note - im hoping for that as well Ecogsi mate..

36.) 07 Mar 2024 13:32:21
I’ve never really understood the thinking behind criticising City’s stadium or crowd attendance.

37.) 08 Mar 2024 08:44:46
When City went down into the old division 3 a few years back., they had a hardcore following of 25k+. Like all clubs the lads and lasses who support their team through thick and thin are sound. It’s the rent a mob who are United fans for a couple of years then Chelsea fans then City fans that are the pain in the ar$e.

01 Feb 2024 09:19:58
Great to see that within a couple of years we'll have our 8 man homegrown quota exclusively made up of kids who've come through the academy and reserve team system for us in Kelleher, Bradley, Trent, Quansah, Jones, Elliott, Baj and Chambers. And that's leaving out maybe a half dozen others. No stupid overpaying of English player tax for us. Just bring them through for free, superb job at the academy.

Jude Nkunku

1.) 01 Feb 2024 12:21:19
His finish for the goal was pretty impressive as well. It was a tough angle and he was running at pace.

2.) 01 Feb 2024 12:22:34
Not sure Kelleher will still be with Liverpool in a couple of years. Would love him to stay but he needs to play more games.

3.) 01 Feb 2024 12:29:37
JN, I read a stat that thru out Klopp's tenure, 42 youngsters from our academy have gotten their first team debuts under him. Yeah, that is not a typo cos I had to read it again. 42 academy graduates. So what you are describing is nota fluke nor an accident.

We clearly have invested time and resources into the academy under Klopp (really started before him, apparently) and that has saved us loads of dough, as you said. My hope is that we keep this structure going and hire a manager wo is commited to actually bringing youth thru the rangs and keep the culture going.

10 Dec 2023 15:56:57
Chelsea should have saved that billion and played their terrific Academy boys!

Jude Nkunku

1.) 10 Dec 2023 16:18:16
Whatever is going on over there is baffling.

2.) 10 Dec 2023 16:20:47
Has anyone followed Chelsea much this season? How has the great lad Caicedo performed?

3.) 10 Dec 2023 16:26:16
I am sure they will splash again and no one inducing the FA would bat an eye shield. Biggest money Launderer in the world.

4.) 10 Dec 2023 16:54:37
Been poor Das but suppose you have to keep playing him when you've been taken for an absolute mug by Brighton.

5.) 10 Dec 2023 17:14:11
Chelsea are a classic case of money not bringing success. They have a raft of decent, but not title winning players which they have payed far far to much for. They are all on mega money and long contracts so selling them in is going to be difficult. They will not care about the loses, but other teams simply will not pay the wages they are on now so those players may not want to leave. Its a little odd that the owner there did not bring a quote unquote. propper football man in to over see things. he's been heavily involved in transfers from. wjat i've read, not sure if that's true or not, but just payed what ever for the above average but no better players they have purchased. The young lad from Saints a prime example, thick end of 60 mil for an unproven 19 year old is insane money. They are a shambles and I cannot see Poch being there much longer. Infact do not be surprised if buy Janurary he's at United.

6.) 10 Dec 2023 17:34:52
I think Pouch needs to go. With a young newly formed team, I would expect a lot of inconsistency etc. but also see flashes and the odd excellent performance. The issue I would have if I was a Chelsea fan is I'm not seeing any flashes of what could be. Certainly the players need to take a lot of responsibility in that team but I think a change of management is justified.

7.) 10 Dec 2023 17:42:16
What is an eye shield?

8.) 10 Dec 2023 18:42:14
Davey, it ain't going to matter who they hire or fire. These guys are in way too deep for many of their fans to realise cos they keep acting as if the manager is the problem you know, the same attitude they had under Roman. Sacking the manager ain't going to work cos they sacked Potter and where has that gotten them? And that dressing room with Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Chech who could rally the troops, manager or not. The penny is yet to drop for many of their fans. It will. Someday.

9.) 10 Dec 2023 21:35:44
I’m glad Everton stuck it to them. Those poverty chants the Chelsea supporters deserved being rammed back down their throats .

{Ed025's Note - it seems all supporters think Merseyside is a dump VV, and it could not be further from the truth imo mate...mind you i do live in the posh part.. :)

10.) 10 Dec 2023 23:07:42
how did they let someone with no idea how to run a top premier football club into Chelsea and think that millions and millions spent on players is the answer, well as liverpool supporter for over 60 years I am so happy to see Everton stuff them and maybe see yet another change in manager and more millions spent . cclubs sshould be run properly.

11.) 10 Dec 2023 23:08:21
As a lifelong Scouser I don't see the offence in the chants, it's pretty and childish not offensive at all considering the country as a whole is on it's backside. Trajegy chants are disgusting but to me it's a bit of stereotype banter. The more people take offence the more it will continue.

12.) 11 Dec 2023 07:03:10
I'd like to hear from the "buy, buy, buy" boys on here, who think buying a couple of new "shiny toys" every single window is the way forward in (buying) success.

I'll accept that it has worked for ManCity, but it clearly hasn't for Chelsea. And that's all the risk there is in such a strategy, right there.

13.) 11 Dec 2023 10:22:47
I’m glad to learn that beggars only exist in Merseyside
The poor people in London must be an illusion I guess
And regardless where people who are poor May reside, are they really people we should be using in chants to wind people up in a football match?

Mock premature declarations of we are going to win the league, laugh about inabilities to hold on to leads, sing about us bottling it, pick on any issue you can see on the football pitch, behaviours of the fans pertaining to the football but really don’t understand how does calling people poor or chanting about tragedies or stereotypes of people from certain regions adds anything in stadiums.

{Ed025's Note - i think you are spot on sg, im afraid modern society makes me cringe at times mate..

14.) 11 Dec 2023 11:30:18
Chelsea will be fine. Pochettino said post match that he plans to turn the season around by asking Boehly for financial backing in the January window.

15.) 11 Dec 2023 11:33:50
Didn’t we buy Vvd, Allison, Robbo, Gomez, Wijnaldum, Hendo, Fab, Ox, Bobby, Salah, Mane and Origi etc to win us the CL and PL.

Perhaps we would have still won both without buying.

16.) 11 Dec 2023 11:38:15
Sgynwa, I fully agree. Anyone chanting and mocking people as being poor (whether it is true or not) is absolutely disgraceful, end of.

17.) 11 Dec 2023 18:04:05
What makes me laugh is the Mancs singing the poverty chants. I had an office over in Manchester a few years ago and believe me parts are a real dump. Even in the City Centre, the walk from piccadilly down to the arndale, full of real low lifes, spice heads it's awful.

18.) 11 Dec 2023 21:21:29
Thatnewoldguy, the fact that Thatcher tried her best to split the country in terms of wealth you should be annoyed by such chants. She hated places like Liverpool and was quite happy shafting places she hated.

19.) 12 Dec 2023 03:24:49
Jude, if Chelsea started playing their academy players in the first team, we wouldn't have anyone to buy anymore, right? ?.

20.) 12 Dec 2023 07:41:42
I wondered what an ‘eye shield’ was too.

Getting back to Chelsea - and there plan to achieve total world domination by 2030 notwithstanding - they are increasingly bringing to mind the difference in buying a player - even if the player has some potential, and buying a player who has the potential to improve the team or squad, in some way. I think there’s a difference that often goes unrecognised.

21.) 12 Dec 2023 08:53:07
Not to harp on about Chelsea, and, again at the risk of embarrassing myself with my lack of knowledge, have a look at Chelsea U-21’s current league position (PL2, Div 1) or their U-18s current league position (U-18 PL South) - the future looks bright.

27 Oct 2023 08:25:10
Missed the game lastnite, how did young chambers get on?

Jude Nkunku

1.) 27 Oct 2023 09:40:00
He did ok mate. Whipped in one great ball in the first half.

Was a decent game to watch and you can only beat what’s in front of you but these Europa teams would struggle against English championship teams.

Toulouse actually tried having a go at us last night over teams parking the bus which made it a goal fest.

8 changes and we put 5 past them which is great for the squad and to keep momentum going for Sundays game against Forest.

2.) 27 Oct 2023 10:16:37
I thought he looked bit over rawed at startt, but improved as game went on. Hopefully he get another few chances coming up and he grows into it.

3.) 27 Oct 2023 15:38:33
Toulouse showed a lot more courage and desire under tough circumstances than the weak, pathetic set of soup sandwiches that Sean Dyche rocked to Anfield with at the weekend. Pathetic mentality, IMO. Oh, and the Toulouse fans were amazing, as well. Hats off to them.

21 Oct 2023 19:25:38
Shout out to Elliott, another superb performance from the bench as he's done all season. easy to forget he's just 20.with him, curtis, grav, zsob nd Mac all 24 or under we are probably better equipped in midfield goinfg forward than any team in the league. even ahead of city.

Jude Nkunku

1.) 21 Oct 2023 20:55:04
But none of them get in City’s first 11. We need a top class number 6.

2.) 21 Oct 2023 21:25:47
The impact of our bench players has been phenomenal this season. Elliot probably the pick of the bunch. 100% agree Jude and the future is red.

3.) 21 Oct 2023 22:14:08
Who gives a toss about City?
Appreciate what you have instead of whining about what you want.

4.) 21 Oct 2023 22:59:19
Agreed on Elliot he’s been brilliant off the bench.

5.) 21 Oct 2023 23:26:57
Zsob doesn't get into Citys side? definitely does. and to be honest i think De Bruyne as the best around are coming to an end, becoming as injury prone as Thiago. Look citys midfield has been the best for a few seasons but we've signed 3 gems this summer.

6.) 22 Oct 2023 00:25:59
Unfortunately with macallister playing out of position and not playing to his potential I can't see how people think we have the best midfield.

7.) 22 Oct 2023 01:09:11
Regards Elliot, probably the best super sub since David fairclough. His best position atm is off the bench for me.

8.) 22 Oct 2023 01:21:08
Because somw of the football being played is faantastic, even though they hardly know each other. wat we've done to our midfield in a window is off the scales.

9.) 22 Oct 2023 05:35:03
Szob not in cities 11? You joined the Emirates group and started smoking?

10.) 22 Oct 2023 06:46:59
To be honest, our performance was as dull as it can be.

Now I understand why klopp selects over worked andy over tmisikas every sinle time. He was lucky not to get booked for stupid silly stuff he was doing.

Konate got real lucky and Klopp took him out correctly.

We are disjointed throughout. Mac has been total disappointment. looks like he is Milner at 40+ with his pace. Even then Milner would outpace him. Very poor.

Szoboszlai did not have a good game.

Only good thing is we got 3 points inspite of very poor performance.

11.) 22 Oct 2023 08:27:54
Not sure how many of our XI would get into AC Milan’s XI, and we know how that worked out.

Anyways, the team were great today and so far this season. Coveting another team as a measuring stick is asinine.

12.) 22 Oct 2023 08:39:22
Get real. Rodri, KDB, Silva are still the best around. We have some way to go yet.

13.) 22 Oct 2023 08:40:29
City’s starting midfield - Silva, De Bruyne and Rodri are 29, 32 and 27 respectively.

Our starting line up -Dom, Macca and Curtis are 22, 24 and 22

Granted Foden’s only 23 and Doku is 21 but the rest of City’s midfield isn’t much to shout about.

We are on the up and have RG @ 21, Harvey @ 20 and Baj @ 19. I know which group I’d prefer.

14.) 22 Oct 2023 08:44:46
Spot in Jude. what the management has done wrt getting this new look midfield gelling in such a short amount of time is fantastic.

15.) 22 Oct 2023 09:23:46
Some posters are never satisfied and belittled our players at every opportunity, who cares about Citeh and who they have.

16.) 22 Oct 2023 09:24:37
Mark and Walter with the most boring takes on here ?. Maybe you guys could cosy up on a WhatsApp group, fawn over City and slag our players off there.

17.) 22 Oct 2023 10:28:48
There is no slagging off going on. But you guys go to extremes. It’s a good start but let’s all it is atm. Something solid to build on.

18.) 22 Oct 2023 11:17:25
Jones and Elliot wouldn’t get into the city Arsenal or spurs 11 never mind mid! It’s not hate it’s my opinion! They have started the season well but plenty of time before the hangmen and keyboard warriors come out!

{Ed001's Note - but you are the keyboard warrior on here Jay. Before shouting your mouth off about them, go look in the mirror. You are the biggest keyboard warrior on the site by a long way. It is embarrassing to call out others for something you are far more gulty of.}

19.) 22 Oct 2023 12:24:12
Mark, constantly comparing and equating what we are or do to City is becoming tedious and downright cringe and obssessive. For the record, I don't care about City nor their players nor do I care if any of our players would walk into their team or "insert rival team lineup here" cos we don't play like City nor like other teams play hence, different systems needing different players. And NO, we are not trying to be like City hence, we don't have any ways to go, either.

And personally, Im not interested in playing like City cos if we were, we wouldn't have bodied them as much as we have under Klopp. We play the way we play with the players we have to fit the system deployed. The City comparisons need to do one. Godd grief!

20.) 22 Oct 2023 12:46:32
Never compared us to City this season, you do go way OTT Oli. I am nearly saying let’s not get ahead of ourselves. One other massive plus is VDD at near his best he makes a massive difference.

21.) 22 Oct 2023 12:51:18
maybe i should have said Arsenal?.

22.) 22 Oct 2023 13:18:37
Jones has started the season very well and Sob looks an excellent player and I’ve never seen a player cover as much ground and at the speed he does.

Elliot has looked good coming off the bench but would like to see him tried on the left as he cuts inside every time on the right and opposition know this.

Seen Endo live in our last Europa game and he looked a little off the pace with most of his passing going sideways or backwards. But in fairness the whole team were off the boil that night.

Mac is being asked to play his not strongest position and is doing lots of good things but also getting caught out as well.

Grav looks a player and will get better and better. All in all looking at results it’s been a very good start to the season.

Nunez has been excellent this year and his build up play has been impressive.

Despite Jota being the most unliked Liverpool player on the internet he’s extremely popular amongst the Anfield crowd on match day with his song being easily sung the most.

23.) 22 Oct 2023 13:36:42
Mark, if you don't know whthat is what you are doing, man so don't try to play with words here. You could go ahead and say we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves without saying "I don't see player X starting for City or any other team". Wat has that got to do with anything?

24.) 22 Oct 2023 13:42:32
Pressed send too soon. This is for Mark. If you don't know what a comparison is then I propose you look up the word. I don't care what City or any other club does nor do I care if any of our players will start for them or vice versa. And nobody cares about what happens last season either. Not anymore, at least.

Also people are not getting ahead themselves here, IMO. All we are doing is assessing the performance of the team overall and if people even want to get ahead of themselves then, let them. Again, the comparisons with City are boring now.

25.) 22 Oct 2023 13:51:21
@Mark, another way of looking at it is that we have been competitive in every game we have played since the season began. it’s not a good start it’s a team playing well. You give the impression that you are waiting for us to mis-step so that you can air your list of grievances.

26.) 22 Oct 2023 18:38:00
I don’t have any grievances. But the season has only just started. The op said we are the best equipped in midfield in the league. We aren’t yet. I think there are too many red tinted glasses on here.

27.) 23 Oct 2023 00:53:35
I don't care whether any of our midfielders would get into city's team. Its a team game and our mf is doing fine playing the way that Klopp wants (esp when you look back to last year) . One caveat about Grav - he looks good going forward but im still in 2 minds about his work off the ball particularly when defending. Personally Id like to see him work much harder getting back and putting in the hard yards. But its early days and maybe that's just him getting used to the team and how Klopp wants him to play.

Gerrard hated it because he was one of the best central midfielders on the planet, Trent has done nothing to prove he is even an adequate one. What taste for the central role? been a spare man for little over half a season and having all the time in the world to play star quarterback? Said this a few times on here, i would love for people on here to be right and for Trent to excel in the middle if he ends up there but while that's not a given we KNOW 100% that Trent would absolutely fly on the right with less defensive responcibilities and free to become an assist king again.
