Looking at the squad and academy, this summer will see a big clearout imo. We know Slot likes quality over quantity and I tend to agree.
Do the following have futures at the club?
Jaros- (out of contract)
Davies- (out of contract)
Phillips- (out of contract)
Williams
Mrozek
Ramsay
Morton
Bajcetic
Scanlon
Beck
Chambers
Balagizi
Norris
Gordon
Doak
Corness
Stephenson.

Id give Phillips a new six year contract.

Maybe Owen Beck, Luke Chambers and Calum Scanlon will get a look in pre-season to see if any of the 3 can be back-up LB. Otherwise i think most will be released Sold or loaned out. You forgot Koumas on your list, along side Doak, Beck and Stephenson he's had a very good loan too.

Of the ones I think have a future:
Jaros - if he is happy to sign a new contract but likely as 3rd choice - if not we'll either bring in a vet (Reina anyone?! ) or another from the academy.
Morton - maybe, but the fact he hasn't played despite fatigue speaks volumes, so maybe not.
Beck - Id like to see him stay and fight with Robbo and A N Other (Kerkez? ) . He may go if we get Kerkez AND Hato imo as we'd have enough cover.
Really wanted Gordon to work out, but hasn't happened.
Doak - I'd like him to have a chance in the squad, but I fear that his stock is quite high so may be sold either as a makeweight in a deal (Newcastle, Bournemouth, even Everton if we like Branthwaite) or to raise funds.

I don't think any of those will set the world alight but I suspect that there are a few who could forge a decent Liverpool career. I suspect that all those on the list will likely have a price though and if a suitable offer came in we would give them the option of the move.

For all of them combined we could probably bring in some decent cash - in a summer where we really will need it. Doak alone I think we valued him at 30 million in January when Palace were interested. We'll get it, no doubts but even 20 million would be good for him.
Bajcetic, I think it's almost guaranteed he won't be part of our plans, he's a fool to himself off the pitch and on it he's just not good enough, not for us he's not.
Chambers and Beck sound good? I've not seen enough of them to comment but with the talk of us bringing in a new LB, I really doubt they'll get their chance with us. A loan again or a sale.
Either way, the summer will be big for us, we're going to see many players leaving I think. Can we bring in the right players? Time will tell. Personally I don't want to see us signing Kerkez, but I didn't want us to sign Robbo - look how that turned out! The lad is young enough to learn plenty so if he does come which is looking very likely then good luck to the lad.

May I ask ed 01 or anyone who knows why Rodgers got rid of reina for mignolet? Too big of a personality for Rodger’s? And would him coming back being a positive or a negative like is he a good character or a trouble causer? I always loved Pepe.
{Ed001's Note - if I remember correctly, it was felt that his height was not imposing enough. They wanted a keeper that was bigger and commanded the area. Migs was taller.}

Why would you be so cruel to remind me of Simon Mignolet?
He would cost us about 10 points every season - practically keeping us out of the top 4 year on year.
All you needed to do to score past him was aim for his feet. A bit like Onana.
{Ed001's Note - he went through a lengthy period of conceding the first shot on target in every game. He was awful for us.}
04 Apr 2025 17:21:45
Migs was worst no1 keeper I've ever seen at lfc, and I've seen a few!
Poor shotstopper, poor with his feet, didn't dominate his area can't for the life of me understand why we bought him.

I was so hopeful for him after he saved a penalty against Stoke on the opening day and we won 1-0. All downhill from there. Barely good enough for a relegation battle let alone a title charge.

Correct me if I am wrong Ed, i think Reina too wanted out at that time. And also Reina looked past his best at that time with too many errors for us before leaving. And he didn't regain his confidence/ performance after Liverpool days. Should have signed Begovic who was heavily linked. I think he moved to Chelsea as second choice.
{Ed001's Note - he did want out as well, but that could have been changed if any effort had been made to keep him.
We tried for Begovic, he turned us down to stay in Stoke as he had just launched a local charity at the time and felt it would be wrong to move at that moment iirc. It was a bit later he moved to Chelsea.}

Thanks for correcting me ED.
{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

Beck and Chambers the most interesting. Both in a position we need but different profiles. If we bring in a Kerkez then Beck probably has a chance if we bring in Hato then Chambers is more alike. Decide which profile we want. Get Beck/ Chambers on loan next season and take over from Robertson when his deal is up next summer.

I’m getting a huge flashback now Ed001! I remember the whole Reina/ Begovic thing when it happened on these boards!
04 Apr 2025 20:43:15
Migs was awful but so was Karius, both in box fumblers and had zero presence. The fact Buck got rid of Pepe for him shows how clueless he was.

Amazing ball knowledge on this page it’s like a football encyclopaedia.

Our academy is leagues behind Chelsea and City's, but why?
Its high time we had some more break-through youth players, especially considering FSG's prudent model depends on squad depth costing less.
05 Apr 2025 08:27:27
Doak Morton Beck best of this bunch. Obviously Danns and Nghoumoa will be threaded into the squad and we have plenty of other youth prospects who look promising you haven’t mentioned. Doherty has looked phenomenal when I have watched the youth sides. Exciting times ahead no doubt.
05 Apr 2025 10:44:55
@Jonny, interesting you mention Chelsea and Man City.
Chelsea were fined last year and are going to be scrutinised by UEFA over “selling” cough, cough, the women’s team from one part of their parent company to another.
City are being investigated even as we speak and whilst a donation from the beneficent state pension fund for dodgy refs and VAR operatives it doesn’t mask the fact they have been / still are being investigated for repeated financial breaches.
05 Apr 2025 16:29:07
Digger10 think you've forgotten about Karius . but that's clever of you because I wish I could forget him.
09 Apr 2025 22:50:02
disappointed we haven't sorted out Jaros and Davies, them leaving on a free is not good economics.
