What blows my mind is arsenal fans chanting artetas name and saying they have progressed again this season. Although they thought 4th was a trophy so three second place finishes in a row is like winning something anyway.

After Real thump them, they should be bouncing.

these Arsenal fans specifically, seem to love and support Arteta more than Arsenal itself. I think it's cos they think if they let him go then they will have to reboot and they don't want to go back to being bantered left, right and centre before they had their first shot at the title in 22/ 23.

That's why they have to laud progress under Arteta like he won something, the very same thing they mocked Spurs for when Poch was doing the same thing.

Agreed, I remember the season before last they were saying if he won the league Arteta would be as good as Klopp, £1 billion spent, 1 Fa cup, and three top 2 finishes, money well spent I’d say….

Man’s spent a fortune and plays Stoke football. I do not rate the bloke. Don’t rate odegard either he gets insane applauses for some reason.

All that money spent and Golum out Stoked him.

To be fair they are still second and through to the Chanpions League quarter finals despite having some fairly bad injury problems. I’m no fan of Arteta but when you’re 20 odd years without a title you hang on to any hope you can.

Yeah, at one stage we were like that too
I know of fans who thought BR was the second coming of Shankly after the season we came second
They felt the way he spoke, the way he strolled On the pitch reminded them of Shanks
One had the charisma while the other, the charisma of David Brent

So yea, in desperation, we cling to anything.

To be fair it was a miracle we almost won the title with that team in hindsight, but then you remember that the premier league was much much weaker back then, facing Norwich was like getting a free pass to get 6 goals up on goal advantage. Brendan Rodgers could never set up a defence and was carried into the title race by Suarez, sturridge, Stevie, hendo and sterling.

The Stoke analogy is just childish.

There’s definitely an Arteta cult following among their fanbase. Reminds me of the Poch era at Spurs.

There’s also a subset of Arsenal fans who prefer the aesthetic over winning/ function. They might be better off getting tickets to the ballet than modern football which is about athletes and systems now.

Most of my friends are arsenal fans and I have been tearing arteta down for more than two years now. To be fair though they are slowly coming around to the idea that he might not be the answer anymore, and my relish at them losing so I can slate their coach is declining considerably as a result. I am neither from nor do I live in England so all of my friends became arsenal fans because of Henry, pires, Bergkamp, overmars, Vieira and the like, so they certainly put a huge premium on arsenal playing a certain way.

You mean supporters of a club supporting their manager! That’s just weird.

Personally I think he has a very high opinion of himself, not least considering he’s won very little and he’s much too quick pointing out how his team was robbed by everyone and his team never play badly (which means him by extension) .

To be fair to them, with their ticket prices being the highest in Europe, there might be an expectation from punters to watch ballerinas dance around the pitch a bit more. Odegaard in a tutu?
