Wonder how people feel about the rumour that vvd and Salah contract demands were to have new four year contracts?

Assuming it's true (which it very well may not be) would you still want to re sign them if it was four years or leave for free?

Pay is the key question.

4 years on same terms? No.

4 years with more variable and less fixed pay (appearances, goals, clean sheets etc)? Possibly.

Tbh, I couldn't care less that they wanted 4 year deals. The reality now, at least, is that Salah was offered a two year deal and he accepted. And seemingly, Van Dijk was offered the same and he is now agreeable to it too.

If they asked for 4 years (which I doubt to be honest) then the club would have said no way, and I'd have been comfortable with that. We obviously want to do the whole "one year contracts for players over a certain age" thing, but in this instance, 2 years is perfect for both of them.

4 years on current pay may have been ok?

2 years with 2 years extension seems fair.

Personally I don't understand why the club wouldn't want a longer contract. The worry now is that they will leave for free in 2 years time now and we'll go through this all over again. A four year contract would give us more time to sell to Saudi for a fee in two years' time.

We should be negotiating the extensions now because we don't want them leaving for free in two years time ?. P.

No way the club agrees 4 year deals at their individual ages, IMO. We all saw what happened when Hendo and Fabinho got 4 year deals and their legs fell of after year 1. had the Saudis not come to our rescue and took them off our hands, not sure the Szobo's, Grav's or Macca's even sign here.

The club did great here and so did Salah and VVD in coming together to make a deal cos both parties wanted a deal to be done. Up Da Pool!

If I was their agent that’s what I’d ask for too.
That’s just business.

I would not have agreed to a 4 year deal, I would think twice about a 3 year deal.

2 years feels right for the club, think we got a bit lucky with Salah.

4yrs is too long for players of their age, and represents too much of a risk. The club would’ve been right not to accept such terms. The issue is how long and how close to their contract expiration date this has run - it is not the way to deal with contracts, the club needs to do better.
