From what I can gather from social media forums and various sports news columns Wirtz would seem to favour a move to Bayern so if this is the case do Eds think that there may be another player that we are scouting that's not on everyone's list a bit of a Fabinho singing obviously not a DM but someone that could come completely in under the radar.
{Ed001's Note - they will have a list, Hughes was brought in to find good value and hidden gems, I would hope that would include someone that is under the radar.}

Notsozippy, there are always other options. Even tho we are looking seriously at Wirtz, they will still have players that can come in to strengthen the attack. We shall see.

It looks like we are doing another Zubemendi with Wirtz. Trying to convicne a player who seems wanting to stay in Germany. As good as he is I am not spending 125 mill on Wirtz. Not my money I know but then we are not signing a top Class DM.

Zubimendi agreed the move only to s*#t the bed and back out at the last minute. It wasn't like we were trying to sign somebody who was never going to be attainable (it looks like he's now had to settle for Arsenal, who he also rejected previously, after interest from us and RM moved on) . We have talked to Wirtz and rather than trying to convince him it sounds like we just sounded him out about whether he is open to leaving Germany before making any bid. From what I can tell most of the 'convincing' is actually coming from Dortmund who don't want him to join Bayern. It is expected that he will remain in Germany but we have just put ourselves out there if he does decide to move abroad.
Apparently we do want a new number 10 but we have other options on our list if Wirtz decides that he doesn't want to leave Germany. From what I can tell this would be one of the 'opportunistic' transfers that the club talk about and if it doesn't happen we are happy to move on and revert back to plan A.

We have a top class DM.
21 May 2025 09:56:24
So would you rather they didn't try to sign top players in the fear that people like you are going to slate them on the internet, house of cards?
21 May 2025 10:07:54
House of cards at least we have thrown our hat in the ring and do you know how much we have in the transfer budget?

The state of play of transfer rumours concerning Liverpool FC in 2025:
Liverpool don't try to sign top
players, internet warriors complain that we aren't a top club and shop in the discount section.
Liverpool try to sign top players who decide to go somewhere else, internet warriors complain that we aren't a top club and are an embarrassment because we can't convince top players to come anyway.
Other internet warriors hatch a conspiracy theory that the PR team at Liverpool have an ingenious plan to distract everybody from the fact that we aren't a top club- alert journalists around the world that we are interested in top players we never intend to go for, occasionally bid for players who are never going to come.
A shortlist is drawn up of utterly impossible transfers and a roulette wheel is spun so we can churn out a few news stories to excite the fans every window, ornstein and the like pocketing thick envelopes of cash to save the evil fsg empire from spending any real money every year.

Our 22 year old DM didn’t miss a game until the league title was secured and has been nominated for player of the year and young player of the year. But sure, DM is a priority. Good lord.
21 May 2025 11:08:58
PB . the last time we signed top players was VVD n Alisson. bfr that it was Torres you can't say we go after top players because they're top money n we mostly don't do that, we buy the up n coming ones . we might be linked with a lot but that means nothing.
21 May 2025 11:40:42
Keep them coming MKS. Our DM. Lord Gravenberch.
21 May 2025 12:36:26
I’d rather sign Wirtz and have someone like McConnell in the squad than spend the money on better cover at DM and a lower quality attacker. If Wirtz wants to join you sign him.
21 May 2025 12:57:20
Not sure that's entirely true Strom, surely thiago was a top player when we brought him in, Mac allister was absolutely on the cusp of becoming a great player, had just won the world cup and was certainly worth more than we paid, frimpong the same, Darwin was probably the most in demand forward besides haaland around at the time.
21 May 2025 13:24:06
Well put, @PatrikBurgher.
@House, we get it. You complain when we don't sign players. And when we do sign players and are in a position to sign a top talent in Wirtz, you still complain. So what's it going to be? And now, you're attacking Grav, arguably the best deep lying mid in the PL that powered us to a title at a canter. Again, you complain.
So I guess my serious question to you is, what are you here for, exactly cos all you do is complain? Cos IMO, you actually don't believe in a damn thing you say (as you are all over the gaff) other than spouting dust just to get a reaction. If that's the case, sound.
21 May 2025 14:10:45
PB have to disagree on the players you mentioned there . Thiago class but made of crisps, Macallister great player but not many in for him at the time . Nunez was always a gamble . let's hope we can get wirtz over the line n change this rhetoric.
21 May 2025 19:07:43
It may depend on whether the player really wants to test himself or stay in an easy league and carry on being able to rip it up against Sunday league players. I think Bayern is the easy choice and would show his character if he chose them.
21 May 2025 15:33:07
By all accounts we’ve tracked him for a few years now and have always liked him.
So if the opportunity is there, the money is manageable, then why not?
21 May 2025 16:45:32
An old everton trick was put it in the press they were trying to sign some super star players just as season tickets were going on sale then would come out just before season starts they were out priced . I do hope we are not using the same stunt with zuber and wirtz bellendinham!
