For today's musings I wanted to ask opinions on Jota. I had high hopes when he signed and he looked quality. I know he has struggled with injuries but beyond that what's stopped him. Why hasn't he kicked on and improved.

Good question. You've said it - injuries have stalled his progress, but also he is a great poacher but not a great link up man. Moving on from Bobby, who was great at link up, he just hasn't measured up.
That said, I can see us keeping him this season if Nunez and Diaz go.

He plays his best football on fc25 mate ?.

I think people are going a bit overboard with the criticism of Jota. He’s been our best finisher for years his problem is his fitness.
The second half of last season he was absolutely awful but that’s the only real bad spell he’s had for us whilst fit and I think he was playing with an injury.
If he could stay fit I’d keep him but he’s shown since he’s been with us that he struggles with that. The problem is who’s going to buy him with his injury record?

He was awful when he came back from the injury against Chelsea and looked a shadow of the player we have seen in the past.
His link up play has always been a weakness anyway but he appears to be less involved in games than he's ever been.
His injury record isn't great but its also far from the 'he's never available' accusations as well as he played in almost 70% of the league games this season scoring 6 and assisting 4 so a goal or assist every 119 mins.
The rumour mill was that he punctured a lung with that mysterious injury in October.
Personally after last season i wouldn't be bothered if he was moved on and replaced but if he does leave he leaves as a PL winner and our 38th all time top goalscorer.

Great impact player but not a starter for me
Up the pool.

He has completely lost his finishing touch. He was once our best finisher. He was calm and clinical in front of goal (I will always remember him leaving White and Ramsdale on their backside in the 4-0 win against Arsenal in 21/ 22) but that is certainly not what we saw last season. Combine that with his injury record and his lack of all round play and he is contributing very little. If he could stay fit he could be a good squad option but he just can't be relied upon to be available. I think maybe he needs to play in a less physical league where he might find it a bit easier to stay fit and rediscover some form.

Id keep Jota for another season.
I know he's been unlucky with injuries and its possible they may have taken their toll but he's still only 28 and arguably our best natural finisher.
I think he still has a lot to offer coming off the bench at the very least.

Yeah he definitely seemed off the pace when he returned from injury and the later part of the season, was painful watching him and Nunez. Guess that's why Slott decided not to play then as much or start them. Think he would be a good squad player if he could stay fit and regain some form and confident.

I think injuries have taken their toll and it’s not going to get better. My view is that it would be sensible to move him on if an offer came in as it’s plausible to think he’ll have another injury plagued season given the nature and extent of his injuries.

Great finisher, not a great footballer. Injuries haven't helped him, but staying up all night playing FIFA has to be a factor.

When your playing regularly enough flaws can often be overlooked a bit. Jota has a few. He has chipped in with some important goals over the years but overall he is not the answer to lead the line if needed. His recent injuries have hilighted his flaws even more.
Overall a 1 in 3 goals record and 20 odd assists in 200 games ain't great viewing for a player with poor passing, vision and involvement in build up play.
Slots team plays a slower build up at times which doesn't suit him at all. So he might not be slots cup of tea.
He gives his all when on the pitch but it could be time to move him on and fill his squad place with a you cub with potential.
I would keep him over nunez if it were a choice between the two but it would be very much dependant on a quality striker coming in. If we don't get one darwin would be the one to stay over the two as jota simply can't stay fit it seems.
If jota did leave it wouldn't be with bad memories. He maxed his potential with us and has been slowed a tad with recent injuries. Has contributed greatly to a harmonious squad that has enabled us to win trophies. Everyone has a time to move on and his might be now.
If he stayed as a squad player it wouldn't be the end of the world either.

If you can get a decent offer for him this summer I’d take it.
Great impact sub and a decent finisher but injured far too often and his overall play is awful.

Following up on my earlier post, I think if Diaz stays then we could see Jota go with Nunez.
If Diaz goes, I could see Jota staying for 1 more season so we don't disrupt the front line completely.
From RedNotice's post in the rumours page, sounds like it may work for all parties (us, Luis and Barca) for him to stay for 1 more season.
In which case, I could certainly see Jota leaving.
It appears Nunez is not ready for Saudi yet, which is commendable from him but annoying for us as the fee will be lower! Maybe Jota could be, especially as he has struggled a lot with injuries hence the fewer games in the SPL may suit him better?
No ITK here, just logic and my view :-)

Jota was the best finisher we had when on goal . I know salah scores more but jota injuries have held him back n last season was his worst one for us . nothing came off for him. if he could stay injury free, there is a great player there but sadly he can't. think it's time for him to move on.

I think we are a bit quick to get shut of Jota yes he was poor last season after the rib injury and yes his link up play could be better but the lad is a finisher and maybe just needs a rest to get back to full fitness if i had to choose between Nunez and Jota Jota all the time for me unless we get the forward we want i would keep him.
