Question for one of the Ed's

For all our comments regarding contracts and sales. The ongoing mention of we don't want another situation we had with he who shall not be named.

The Konate and Nunez issues. Personally don't think Nunez would want to sit in the reserves and wants to try and salvage his career.

My question is though if Nunez wanted to do so! He could down tools and see out his remaining years on his contract to leave on a free. All these Saudi money comments! Again he gets to decide where he goes. The Konate situation is different is his contract is nearly up. But again we can't force a sale or force Konate to be sold if he doesn't wish to be so.

Obviously hope both issues are resolved and Nunez is sold and finds form again, Konate agrees to a new contract and it's happy days. I just don't think we have a leg to stand on to force or insist anything.

Am I correct.

{Ed001's Note - all we can do is drop them, so very little power.}

Agree0 Disagree4

Nunez will be a Napoli player by the end of next week so no worries there.

27 Jun 2025 18:00:54
Im happy he who can not be named caught on, but maybe we can do hewho for short?

27 Jun 2025 18:04:21
Tara to you lol the queen of Scotty road.

27 Jun 2025 18:05:19
On the flip side, we're not obliged to play them either.

If Konate decides to see out his contract, in my opinion we have to replace him this summer and treat that player as a starter.

27 Jun 2025 18:16:21
hewho? Sounds like a donkey!

27 Jun 2025 18:31:59
Voldemort.

27 Jun 2025 18:32:03
Konate will not want to be benched in a World Cup year especially as France are potential winners. Imagine missing that for rest of your life.

27 Jun 2025 19:09:56
Personally if Konate refuses to sign a new contract and also tries to run down his contract and leave on a free then we send him to reserves and buy his replacement now. He can decide if he wants to play regularly or does he want a sign on bonus! People will argue that you are cutting off your nose to spite your face but I don’t want a player on the field if they are playing those tactics! Had we known Trent was learning Spanish and had his mind made up months ago I would have sent him to the reserves also!

27 Jun 2025 19:15:15
Yes Chrisy when times are hard and goals are few it’s tarra to frigin you.

27 Jun 2025 19:35:02
Seems like you missed the HeWho memo Dow.

27 Jun 2025 19:47:18
Can’t iaiaiargue with that zed.

27 Jun 2025 19:47:45
Why should Konate sign a contract if he's not happy with it?

27 Jun 2025 19:50:22
On konate . iv said this all along . if he doesn't sign then drop him completely from the squad n don't loan him out either, it world cup year he'll want to play n has to play . people saying we can't do that its not right or a good look for the club . but we cannot let these players run contracts down esp when they're young n can be worth a potential 50 mill plus.

27 Jun 2025 20:25:35
Players are supposed to see out their contracts, Stromsgodset.
We bought him for five years and we can get five years out of him. I don't see the sense in playing him for four years.
Konate might think he is worth more than the club does or he might fancy a new club; maybe in his home country.
He's not doing anything wrong so why punish him? People are saying he is refusing to sign a contract and they don't even know what's in it!

27 Jun 2025 20:32:55
@mcgoveb you just had to say his name, knew wizards and football wouldn't end well.

Thanks Ed01 A more happy compromise needs to be found.

27 Jun 2025 20:34:11
And you think that's a good look for the club? "Sign a contact extension or we'll drop you from the squad! "

How many top players will have second thoughts of joining us?

Not to mention, this isn't the players fault - they're honoring their contracts. Clubs should be ready for more players to do this and if anything, the laws around this need to change.

Strikes me as odd that most who are employee's don't want to give our employer's the control/ power, but in football we want the employers (LFC) to have the control/ power.

27 Jun 2025 20:39:50
Why do we keep rehashing this argument, it is counter productive to leave one of your highest assets out the squad just because he doesn’t want to sign a contract. Yes we don’t won’t him to leave on a free but at least if he plays he is contributing and generating value.
I get people want us to make a point and send a message to other players, but I actually think that would have a negative impact on morale. Unfortunately in this day and age players hold all the power when in their last contract year and on one hand can you blame them? …Imagine as an LFC fan you’re playing for PSG and in last contract year you know there is a chance of signing for Liverpool on a free, I think most of us wouldn’t be in a hurry to re-sign a new contract.

27 Jun 2025 22:08:12
Rigsby . you keep saying this over n over again . who cares if you don't think he's doing anything wrong . u said the same about the Spanish judas . its costing our club millions . I blame the club aswel for not sorting it out beforehand but the fact is these players couldn't care less about the clubs if they don't this so why should we care about them n their feelings,

27 Jun 2025 22:16:28
Red mob . do you think top players are thinking I'll sign for Liverpool for 4 years n then I'll leave on a free and if they don't allow me to then il tell all my mates about them n no one will sign for them . we are Liverpool FC. not some clown outfit . not sure where all this righteous chat is coming from on here,

28 Jun 2025 09:13:30
Who knows what has been offered and what konate is expecting? End of the day, Konate thinks he is work X amount and liverpool clearly thinks he is worth y amount.

Think its unfair to compare to trent atm, because trent was apparently offered a huge deal but just didn't want to stay. Unless i've missed something, people are suggesting konate wants to stay, but hasn't been offered the deal that is acceptable to him.

28 Jun 2025 09:34:05
Stromsgodset, if you don't care what I think about Konate and Trent Alexander Arnold, don't read my posts or reply. But that's how a forum works. You post something and other posters read and reply. They might disagree with you whether you care or not.
Them leaving is not costing the club millions, either. When a player's contract is up then the club no longer has any rights to the player.
It works both ways because the club stops paying the player and it can't be forced to give them a new contract.
A player's career is a lot shorter than that of a club's, too and it will do what is best for itself so you can't blame a player for doing the same.
Clubs are also aware of the Bosman rule and it will factored into them buying a player.
All this about players having all the power and being Judases, who do you think are picking them up on free transfers? Again, it works both ways.
It's not just Liverpool that is affected and maybe some of these Judases don't care as much about that club as you do. I'm sure you would never look at earning a living at another club or would forsake salary and security for your family so the club could get a fee for you. Even if the club would prefer you to stay and honour your contract.

28 Jun 2025 12:27:47
Rigsby. you seem to look at football from a players point of view instead of the clubs . football is not like any other job ie a joiner where he gets a job n it last x amount of time, then he moves on, these footballers are privileged to the hilt but they are only there because of the passion n support of the fans, and earn already obscene amounts but want more, you are technically right that they can do it as they're not breaching a contract, but they are morally wrong. but when we get fans sticking up for them n still cheering them on, then they'll do it all the more . we have to stop this nonsense they're already aloof, no real involvement with the fans as it is they might make the odd video praising us but then go back to their mansions exactly like the Spanishjudas did. If they were unhappy they would n do down tools to get a move away, so we should be doing exactly the same as them .

28 Jun 2025 14:56:02
Stromagodset, but we “can’t stop this nonsense” as players have control when it comes to last year of their contract, that is the whole point! You say it is costing us millions, but not playing Konate would cost more as we would need to find a replacement now and therefore pay two sets of wages. I don’t know why as a fan you get so upset if someone wants to leave, players are transient employees at the end of the day. Yes it is frustrating when players leave on a free but it is up to the club to manage this better and get sales done if possible, but then as in case of Gini for example he was more value to the club to keep and play rather than sell.
You’re entitled to your opinion and I respect it, but I don’t know why it seems so personal, the clubs finances are fine and they will make good money through other sales.

28 Jun 2025 15:53:50
MoT . I agree they have the power in their last year of their contract n i blame the club mainly for letting it get this bad . I can understand why they waited with Salah n VVD because of their age but not with younger players but I think clubs have to take back the power from the players, they will end up bankrupting clubs n they only way is to be tough on them . by the way I don't care who leaves the club its only the money we lose on a transfer that bothers me for future signings. Trent i didn't rate as a defender n similar with Konate. think we can easily upgrade on him like we've done with trent .

28 Jun 2025 17:49:28
Stromsy, I'm looking at it from the clubs' perspective, too. Clubs are benefiting from it because they are picking up players on free transfers.
Have you ever considered that Konate might be unhappy with the situation?
The contract might not be what he thinks it should be. We've seen fans on here saying that we should keep him and pay him what he wants. The same with Diaz.
I'm not saying that's the case but I'm not angry with Konate or the club because I don't know what's going on or who's to blame, if anyone is to blame.
I don't know why fans get so upset about players leaving on free transfers. We all know it happens, clubs know it happens and fans shouldn't take it personally.

28 Jun 2025 18:17:21
Rigsby . when was the last time we picked up a free transfer of a top young international in his prime worth over 60 million without them being made of crisps ie Matip n Thiago. Konate might not be happy in his situation or he might be waiting for an offer from us that suits him . but end of the day we cannot keep allowing our first team players to run down their contracts n that's down to the mis management. n yea it bothers me that the likes of trent was hero worshipped (not by me tho) n let's face played everyone into thinking he'll be signing, he didn't live in the area so they never really seen the fans from day to day so he obviously didn't care n his perfect spanish was at least 2 years into the making . and that's why im a fan of the club not the players.

29 Jun 2025 11:35:54
Stromsy, we paid a fee for Thiago and we are not keep allowing our first team players to run down their contracts. We are selling players, too.
We are not allowing Konate to run down his contract, either. He has been offered a new one.
I support the club not the players, too, but try to stick to facts, keep an open mind and not get too emotional when you don't really know what is going on, mate.
The club will survive Konate and TAA leaving on frees as it did when the other 'Spanish Judas' left for Madrid.
We've just smashed our transfer record, haven't we?
