Why don't we give Diaz a new deal at a wage he deserves?
Players will always have family ( dad/ brother) blowing smoke. telling them where they can get more money!
Think about what this lad does for us! He never stops running, he gets back and defends, he can keep a defence guessing ( and his team mates) he has energy to burn. He should be kept. Give him the money and contract he deserves now. if next year he wants to move, the money won't be that much less than it is now. He maybe worth even more! This obsession with age of players is daft. Certain players just go on well into their 30s. Salah shows no signs of slowing down IMO.
We can NOT make too many changes.
Loosing Jota is a massive shock. this will have a big effect on the squad as a whole. I feel now is the time to consolidate. Nunez will get some good money in, and sad to say if Elliot is definitely not going to get the chance, he too will bring in good money.
With Wirtz to unlock low blocking teams at Anfield we have a great chance. But team spirt is everything. YNWA.

Diaz is on the same or similar wage to a lot of our first teamers - Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gravy, Nunez, Gakpo.
How much more should he get?
Also we have no idea of the discussions that have gone on. Who knows where the impasse is, but I certainly trust the club.

I would keep diaz as well chris, I think he is an excellent player for all the reasons u have named. I don't think he will be easily replaced.
The other side of argument is we don't know how much money he is looking.

I’m starting to think it might be a case of keeping Diaz and Nunez for another season and see where we are next year especially after the awful jota news, diogo was so valuable in terms of his ability to play anywhere across the front three so I think we stick with what we’ve got, Elliot and chiesa included and sign a centre back as well as try and introduce rio and maybe another.

Diaz final ball is the only thing that makes me reluctant about offering him a payrise. No question he can beat a man, as well as tireless in attack and defence but is he worth more per week than McAllister and Gravenberch?
12 Jul 2025 15:45:22
If it was only that simple. He wants to leave, we won't offer the wage he feels he deserves. He's on as good a wage as some other first teamers, so all this he's paid less is balls and a way to try and engineer a move imo.
Do you think he is worth paying £250k+ p/ w? As I imagine that is what he is asking for.
That being said. he's a quality player, so I can understand why the club are playing hardball.

Maybe the club doesn’t want to, he has two years running. Perhaps the club are open to losing him and don’t want to tie him down on a long term contract at higher value when he will soon be 30. Say we extend his contract by another two years on 180k a week that is £8,600,000 a year over £32m during that duration…. what if his form drops, then he suddenly an expensive bench warmer. I reckon he stays this summer and we move him on next at a lower price c£15m. We can’t just bump up every bodies wages for the sake of it.

Dear departed Ed002 used to tellus not to talk about finances and some of the posts on here saying Diaz is on £50,000 a week are utter boll***s.
12 Jul 2025 16:31:17
Do you actually think the club are reluctant to give Diaz a new contract based on the premise his form dips. If they use that as a barometer we would never give any players an extension.
Another thought during this window. With the volume of new players arriving there is going to be some difficult negotiations in 3/ 4/ 5 years time when all the current contracts are about to expire.
12 Jul 2025 18:03:29
Diaz is twenty eight and when h8s contract expires will be thirty. At that age there is a great chance he will of lost some of his speed which is what he depends on to beat his man. Maybe the powers that be, do not believe that he has the acumen to adapt his play in the same way as Salah has.
{Ed077's Note - you make it sound like Diaz is a speed merchant, which he isn't.

Gaga…. no I think it is because he can be easily replaceable, you could argue we already have in Wirtz signing. Why give him a bumper contract, when the club clearly don’t feel he is worth it…. that was my point, and to highlight that in some instances the club saves money by not extending contracts and letting them run down…. however as I said I think he will be sold next summer.

Diaz is a very good player, one of the best in the pl in his position. If you disagree name three who are better, both from the eye test and their stats. Liverpool know this, he is difficult to replace. If he wants to leave that is a problem, but you can’t make players stay, so we dig in. Pay his value or don’t, they are clearly willing to risk a free transfer and is it such a bad idea in the era of PSR? I don’t think it is, I think PSR turns the old thinking on its head. Let players run down contracts if there isn’t a suitable target, bank the allowance and wait for the right player. It feels counterintuitive, but say we sell Diaz for 60m and buy a Gordon for the same money, but probably higher wages. Is Gordon significantly better than Diaz, no, does he have a higher ceiling, maybe. The only real advantage is the financial asset of the player, but if we don’t win things is that worth the trade off? I’m not so sure…I think th3 market is changing and our owners know it and are acting accordingly.

Man of Todd
How do we save money if he leaves for free in two years time. He then needs replacing with a significant fee and possibly a higher salary. Or because we now have Wirtz we don’t need a replacement.
12 Jul 2025 22:58:57
Diaz is significantly better than Gordon.
13 Jul 2025 00:56:23
Gaga3 because he doesn’t need replacing so the money we save on the wage bill could be used for someone else. My point is if Diaz left, lw is still a position of strength with Gakpo and wirtz…. why tie him down in bumper wages when he is not a key/ irreplaceable player and soon entering his 30s, we don’t want to be stuck with someone we can’t get rid off.
I rate diaz and want him to stay this summer, but I wouldn’t be looking to give him a bumper contract either as I think the team will be fine without him.
13 Jul 2025 05:52:34
regardless of what Diaz is on, there is no reason to extend him now.
If he was a Mo Salah level type of player then I could see the rationale to tie him down. But even then, we didn't extend Mo until the 11th hour pretty much for all his extensions.
If the player is upset two years out from end of contract then that is really on them to manage, of which they have options. push for a move or just suck it up.
13 Jul 2025 15:23:27
I think the club is fine with either keeping Diaz or selling him this summer should the offer they want arrive. And if that is the case, so am I.
