We have Ekitike and chasing Isak, Utd have signed Cunha and Mbuemo and now Arsenal finally get their striker, they have agreed a deal to sign Viktor Gyökeres as their new striker. Deal in place club to club with Sporting after five year contract agreed with Gyökeres, everything now done.
Arsenal will pay €63.5m fixed fee plus €10m add-ons, his agents will reduce commission to make it happen.

Shaping up to be an exciting season. Have Everton signed anyone of note?

Everton have signed a fairly promising young French striker.

Arsenal have quietly dropped another €250 mill on new players. But don’t worry the media is quiet because it is not Liverpool FC.

Probably because Liverpool are Champions and Arsenal are. well Arsenal.

I'm not that impressed by arsenal's signings. I can't see them being much different in all honesty. It will be another top 3 for them. I like utd signings, so improvement for them.

Out of curiosity, because I can't be bothered to look it up, who have Arsenal bought totalling 250 mill?
23 Jul 2025 09:07:05
Zubimemdi, Madueke (apologies on the spelling) and now Gyökeres. Haven't they bought, or close to, a defender too but the name escapes me? Euros is the key point though, I think it's more like £200m still a chunk of change either way.
{Ed001's Note - Kepa, Norgaard. It isn't that much yet, until Gyokeres and Mosquera. Way under 200m so far.}
23 Jul 2025 09:07:57
Rome, they've bought zubimendi for £60m, Madueke for £50m, they've effectively signed Mosquera for about £25m, Gyokeres for around £70m, kepa for £5m, and I feel like I might be missing one more, but can't be sure. Over £200m at least.
23 Jul 2025 09:12:12
Err, Zubimendi £51, Norgaard £15, Valencia centre back whose name i can't spell £48, goalkeeper £5, Madueke £48 ish, and Gyorkores when he signs £67?
23 Jul 2025 09:28:01
And they are not done yet. They will keep buying until they win the league. But for some reason they are the model pro of all clubs. Arteta have spend €1 billion in his time.
{Ed078's Note - but, they lost and were the best team in the CL last year don't you remember :)
23 Jul 2025 09:39:28
I think Arsenal have strengthened key areas. Gyok, Zubimendi, and Norgaard are good buys. Can't see the logic behind Mosquerra, Kepa, or Madueke though. Especially the latter since they already renewed Nwaneri's contract and he's a far better player.
{Ed001's Note - Nwaneri is more of a central player, so Odegaard's place is the one he will be after.}

Thanks for the replies.

Arsenal have outgrown Odegaard IMO, a serviceable attacking mid with some moments of great play, but he doesn't impose himself when it really matters.
23 Jul 2025 12:37:44
In my eyes he's not the kind of player that imposes himself to begin with, nick, he needs all the parts around him working well and the players in front of him making the right movements, he simply isn't a player that will drag you out the mud and make the difference on his own when the going gets tough, he has never been that.
The problem is that Arsenal don't really have any of those kinds of players (like a Mo or a Wirtz), even Saka doesn't want to be 'the man', though he is the closest that they have to a difference maker. Calafiori maybe, and in the Arsenal system he's supposed to be the element of chaos floating in the attacking areas and playing a sort of Gvardiol role, but he's been injured a lot, he's always been a maverick player allowed to roam and shoot when he has a sight at goal.
I think they're banking on Gyokeres to make an impact, his entire style is based on barreling through the lines and muscling his way through when he is fed the ball. The question is whether Gyokeres actually has the technical finesse to succeed in the premier league, where he will not be able to bully defenders because the defenders are much bigger, stronger, faster and smarter in the prem. He will have to be smarter and do more with the touches that he gets, in Portugal he had a reputation of taking a lot of touches before setting himself up for a shot because his technique is not at the highest level. I think this is probably why we never really considered him- he does not have a clean touch or technique, and he is not fast enough.

Arsenal have signed 2 decent players and the others are just squad fillers. I ain't worried about them challenging next season.
23 Jul 2025 13:34:48
Few decent signings tbf, look to have gotten a striker too and Madueke useful cover on both wings, possibly competition for Martinelli too? Their lw still a bit light imo, but should be strong this coming season.
23 Jul 2025 16:10:09
Patrick I agree with you about Odegaard and especially Saka too; for me he is a great player but he's not elite.
I never understood the hype about them coming into last season, to me they always obviously lacked decisive game winning quality that we and City had. Havertz was never plausibly their solution up front, and they didn't have any other quality forwards or wingers to take the pressure off Saka. I'm still not sure they've adequately addressed that issue either; Madueke arguably isn't an upgrade on Martinelli or Trossard, and as you mention about Gypkeres there could be a good reason why nobody else was bidding for him. Zubimendi is a good signing but he's there to help them do something they're already good at. He's not going to convert more draws into wins.
