Probably get the net spend amount for Elliott soon, so basically we've not spent anything?.

Love the way for the purchases you include the price before add ons and then for the sales you include what we receive with add ons. You missed off Pecsi and mama though, but we are starting to see why we could spend so much knowing the sales would take a fair chunk off the net spend, but if players are not in the plans, then best to move them on and bring in players that will suit the way we intend to play.

Who cares. You get the picture.

Important to remember that net spend is meaningless from a PSR perspective.

Very simple example:

Trent, Quansah, Kelleher, Elliot, Morton and Phillips have either come from our academy or were bought very young for very little money/ Therefore their transfer fees (the base fees, not the add ons until they are earnt) are pure profit.

The fees achieved for Nunez and Diaz (for example) only generate profit over the book value of the players on our balance sheet.

Diaz cost (for arguments sake) £50m (let's assume the add ons on his original deal were achieved) He signed a 5 year contract that he was 3/ 5 of the way through. Therefore, his carrying value was £20m when he was sold. So if his guaranteed base price was £60m, there's a £40m profit (£60m-£20m) in the books for him.

Nunez cost £64m base price, and up to £85m. Let's assume half of his addons were achieved so his gross price is £75m. He is 3 years into a 6 year contract so his book value is £37.5m.

If the sale goes ahead, it's for a guaranteed c£45m so we would have a book profit of £7.5m in this year's PSR calc.

Likewise the players we buy have their fees amortised over the length of contract (ignore the add ons for now) - so if Wirtz signed a 5 year contract, his cost in year 1 is £20m etc.

Pretty complicated, and not as simplistic as net spend, unfortunately.

Mama was brought last year Knighty then loaned to Valencia. Morton was €15m so total package of £13m inclusive of addons.

06 Aug 2025 15:59:55
Ah yes. I forgot. That’s a good explainer. Thanks Zed.

Even twelve months on it's still possible to find someone who thinks Mamardashvili was on loan to Valencia last season. Presumably someone with no broadband and living in the Outer Hebrides.

{Ed001's Note - he was on loan last season, we signed him and loaned him back to them.}

06 Aug 2025 16:16:49
Kellehers fee won't be anywhere near 18m, his previous club in Cork are receiving 3m as a sell on clause was in his deal when we signed him .

06 Aug 2025 16:20:34
So we are once again winning the “Net spend” trophy ???.

06 Aug 2025 16:43:56
Harry, must be a new experience for you. Since the teams you support, ManCity and Chelsea, spend like they own money printing machines. ?.

06 Aug 2025 16:50:00
I suggest that anyone, and I mean anyone, who thinks he was on loan last season should read his profile on the official club website. Even Wikipedia has got it right.

{Ed001's Note - TMS says he was on loan. So perhaps you need to tell FIFA?}

06 Aug 2025 17:06:52
Nice one, Zed. It's not just beer and skittles on this site.

06 Aug 2025 17:20:34
Haha, Mytton - I'm cringing for you mate ?.

06 Aug 2025 17:25:22
Mytton, a simple Google of his name will tell you we signed him last year and loaned him back for a season.

06 Aug 2025 17:48:10
Mytton this is a quote from Mamardashvili -

“I'm not considering another loan move. I will spend next season at Liverpool" 22 May 2025.

06 Aug 2025 18:03:45
That was precise, Zed.

Every bracket accounted for, each beam aligned with the correct amortisation year.

No screws missing, no surplus parts left on the floor.

The room could be built from this alone.

Mytton,

Official club website - "Taking the next step in his career, Mamardashvili signed a long-term contract with Liverpool to join the goalkeeping department ahead of 2025-26."

Wikipedia - "On 27 August 2024, Valencia and Premier League club Liverpool confirmed that Mamardashvili would be joining the latter at the start of the 2025–26 season"

I grant you that neither source is clear either way, but if Ed001 has checked TMS (a subscription only site to confirm football transfers, so not available to the general public, IIRC) and it says he was bought last summer and loaned back to Valencia, I'd probably believe him.

06 Aug 2025 19:08:15
Tell me you're harry without telling me you're harry.

06 Aug 2025 19:09:46
Mytton dropped a clanger, right in the middle of an interesting thread!

06 Aug 2025 21:34:43
All quite quick to jump on Mytton, but I can't find anything that said we loaned him. In fact Lewis Steele reported when we originally bought him we definitely didn't loan him. Take it how you want, obviously i haven't seen the TMS thing, but then again neither have most of you.

{Ed001's Note - transfermarkt will probably have a loan move in there I would think.}

06 Aug 2025 21:39:39
Ed002 would have loved eviscerating this thread.
RIP Ed002 ?.
