Not a view that will be popular, but the signing we should have made this summer is someone with grit, someone who plays with power, someone who can drive a team forward, someone who knows the right pass.
Jordan Henderson. In my view, our best captain since Mad Graeme. It doesn't feel right that he is no longer with us. He should have been with us these past years, and should be with us now. Bad man management saw him leave - but, my word, what a Titan he was for us.
{Ed025's Note - good captain MS but not a great player i would suggest, always tried hard mate was never top quality, sometimes we remember fondly what we want to remember..

I hate it when we start to re-write history.
Stop looking back and look forward.

I don't think it was bad man management that saw him leave. He wanted to be a first team player and Klopp saw him as a squad player instead. This was communicated to him and he decided to leave to Saudi to when the offer came in. I thought the way he left was professionally done.
I think if we were talking about purely mentality, I'd rather have Milner back than him. Don't think we would have slacked off as muchnin training if he was still around.

Not sure it was bad man management that he left.

Ed 100%. An example would be that we have been missing Nunez this season.
{Ed025's Note - yeah RF, big fish always look better in small ponds mate like Xhaka at Sunderland..

I'm sure we could entice Milner back and Fabinho is only 32 ;)

Alright 25 mate?
Interesting take re Henderson - what one has to remember is how many great players are there? Whilst Henderson might not go down as one of the greats, he was great for Liverpool and was pivotal for Klopp’s success. What we have to remember mate, and I have this debate with other non supporters of Liverpool, you never get to see a players true worth unless you watch them live and I stand by this 100%.
You never really got to see how good Henderson was ast behind a remote or 10 mins of match of the day.
I remember the year Brenda should have won the league with us, Hendo got injured and it had a massive impact on the run in.
{Ed025's Note - i actually watched as much of Hendo as most people Drogie as i tend to watch all the Liverpool games and have done for decades, i do agree that not everyone in the side has to be a baller and you need grafters and players who do the hard yards as well.
i dont think he will ever go down as a great player though mate like Keane, Viera etc who had a lot more in their locker but im not decrying his value to the team ethic that he brought, i suppose my view of him is tainted due to his stance on the rainbow laces fiasco which i was very scathing about but thats just my personal view i suppose.
he was a fine captain and motivator though even though at times it was more about his finger wagging and shouting than his ability as a player, but a lot is down to what colour your tinted specs are i would think..

Not exactly a name people would pine over or dream of in any way shape or form.
Just a question before people jump on me, asking for opinions. Would Conor Gallagher be worth a look at all? That bull dog type player who is willing to leave everything on the pitch and just do the dirty work. It is that sort of grit and physicality we seem to be missing. Maybe there is someone attainable who does it better, more than happy to her the names if there is.

I do understand that mate but watching a player live is totally different to the tv, so you see things that he does they aren’t always visible in the tv. I’m not saying he’s up there with Viera and Keane but they had more to thier game off the ball as in it and it’s the off the ball stuff that is just as important.
A prime example on the other foot is Gini, everyone lauding him as the best thing sliced bread, yes he had a good sessin and a half but I remember him in certain away games when he first came to the club, he’d go completely missing and these were away games where I was in attendance and you’d clearly see the difference. Watch him a few hours later on match of the day and looked a baller.
So it’s and interesting one25 mate.
{Ed025's Note - i agree on Gini Drogie and for me they were both similar in what they brought to the table, there is nothing like being there in person but with the coverage these days on television and the benefit of replays mate you can still get a really good read on individual players i think..

A team of James Milner's wins the league!

Agreed, Faith. Rewriting history doesn't even begin to describe this take.
Remember, I did not see a soul on this site ever mentioning wanting Henderson back this summer or even since he left so where is all the hindsight stuff or coulda/ shoulda/ woulda rhetoric coming from, exactly?

They were both good players but not great. Perhaps a bit like Lucas Leiva, but slightly better. Fabinho was better again than both I’d say, but probably still not a great.
Used to think of greats sustaining their level and contributing to team success over longer periods, but maybe that’s changed for us recently because city dominated for such a period. Central midfield wise Gerard and Alonso probably the last two who you could say were great, but they played in worse teams than Fabinho.

The Klopp midfield of JH, GW, Fab and Milner were his working horses. Relentless, combative and totally effective. A vital part of his vision and they implemented that to a point far beyond reasonable doubt. That said, none of them however would get into an all time LFC team, maybe squad members but not first 11. They were of their time and wonderfully so.

Hendo wasnt the greatest player, but when he was injured or suspended we missed him no doubt about it.
13 Nov 2025 16:27:46
Ed025 Hendo was by far the better captain but SG was by far the better player.
{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that Barry mate..

I have always had a blindspot when it comes to Henderson. He just had so much drive - a bit like Keegan - to overcome so many obstacles. I just felt it was awfully sad that he wasn’t persuaded that leaving for Saudi would be a massive mistake.
Given how often he had fought back from the brink, it is perhaps telling that he wasn’t confident that he could fight for a starting slot in that new midfield - but I think we’d be stronger with him in our squad than the rarely used Endo.
Not one of the all-time greats, but he was great for us.

Henderson reminds a bit like Ronnie Whelan . one of the most underrated players but wasnt top top level . but when they never played you missed them more than the star players,
