If Slot does end up leaving- what happens to Edwards and Hughes?

They chose him and installed him, and then in the summer spent money on players who really don’t seem to fit the system or style of play.

If performances on the pitch drop- it surely has to result in a complete review of every single person who has responsibility for putting a squad and a team together- and not just the Head Coach.

Slot has chosen to play a different way this season and it is a way that doesn't suit any of the players in the squad. That is not the fault of Edwards, Hughes or the new players that were signed.

28 Nov 2025 11:41:34
Totally agree with this.

Slot is getting all the heat but the men who appointed him are the ones choosing his successor, after one and a half seasons.

28 Nov 2025 12:02:19
He won the league last season, so it was a good appointment on their behalf at the time. It's not their fault that he seems to have gone rogue this season.

28 Nov 2025 12:02:38
Hughes and Co aren't telling Slot to play our best player RB or play with an invisible midfield.

28 Nov 2025 12:05:09
Who sacks the sackers?

28 Nov 2025 12:06:50
Those who identified and bought in the players for Slot did so on the tactics employed and closest matches to those who were either leaving or ageing, who were available in the market.

Slot has then completely changed his tactics and way of play after said players have come through the door.

We were all falling over ourselves because of who we had signed. We could see how special this team should have been.

Thing is though, whether this applies to Slot or Alonso or Ranieri - sometimes first season managers do incredible things with a team.

Second season success is more indicative. In your first season, you’re somewhat of an unknown quantity. Pretty quickly you get found out. Second season there is more tape to analyse and deconstruct.

Unless you get a manager with a track record of sustained success and not a one season wonder, then it’s a gamble.

With managers at smaller clubs, it’s even harder to judge. Doing well with players who are pulling up trees in order to get a big move is one thing, doing well with players who are established world class players is another. In addition smaller clubs are often taken lightly and hence they can pull off shocks.

One thing to Iraola’s credit is that he’s having a level of success with hugs squad turnover. Losing both your starting centre backs and your starting left back is a big deal.

I’ve no problem with Iraola being considered the best choice, but it will still be a bit of a gamble.

So people don't think they talked about what way the team were going to be playing before they spent hundreds off millions? laughable. Slot hasn't suddenly turned into a mad scientist intent on self destruction.

28 Nov 2025 12:30:40
Sack Edwards and Hughes and then if a new manger comes in and is successful then we’d have to rehire them as the signings worked.

28 Nov 2025 12:57:33
I disagree that we have changed our way of playing this season. The only small tweak that Slot seems to have made is allowing Gravy to go forward on occasion.

Otherwise, we are playing a lot like we did in the second half of last season but with players who do not fit the tactics.

Seems like Slot, Hughes and Edwards are not on the same page. Who's fault is that? Well, Slot is Dickie and Mickey's man - so ultimately, they have to share the blame.

28 Nov 2025 13:21:06
How are you, JK? Not seen you on here for a while. Hope you're well, mate.

28 Nov 2025 13:29:26
Agree. Only tweak is Gravy not holding back. Keeps going forward and forward leaving huge gaps which Macca can never cover nor we can expect Szoboslai to do along with his pressing and right back duties. Defense is exposed every game.

Players bought have aso not helped as they all want to be the main men on the pitch.

Etikite looked good but suddenly he is running with the ball with heads down and keeps on shooting towards goal in all impossible angles. Slot taking him out for Isak did not help but he seems to have gone a level down when given a chance instead of rising up.

All good Rome. Had a 5 day stag in Spain last week so I’ve been in recovery mode. Thank god I could hardly see the screen by the time the Forrest game came on and PSV was miserable.

Just to add to the conversation it’s pretty clear Chiesa isn’t a Slot signing or player hence why he doesn’t use him for 18 months.

I think it’s hard to argue that Kerkez, Wirtz, Ekitike and Isak aren’t Slots signings because he’s started them all multiple times.

28 Nov 2025 13:39:55
The sackee’s perhaps Rome?

28 Nov 2025 16:58:49
Wasn’t Slot announced before Hughes took over on June 1st ?.

28 Nov 2025 18:39:30
He was indeed @TIR. Who can forget the witty by-play on this very board about who was responsible for bringing Slot into the role in the lead up to the. 24/ 25 season?

I’m not sure that the buck actually stops with Edwards and Hughes and Ward, who oddly never attracts the same amount of dislike as the first two, which I suspect is because a lot of us (including me) have even less idea what he does than the often dubious assumptions about what the other two do. If you extend the simplistic idea that the person who hires someone for a job should also be removed if the person doing the job fails the surely the people who hired the people who hired the bloke being sacked should also be removed - either by selling the club or by disbanding the club. Seems the obvious and only solution yo me.
