Hi eds and posters, wondering how we would feel about the team, slot etc if we got 4th place but managed to win champs league. Then we would have a manager who in 2 seasons won the 2 biggest trophies?

I would feel great if we got top 4 and CL. And I feel perfectly fine about Slot already. He seems like a good guy and I love the Dutch demeanor and directness. Find his style of football insanely boring tho.

I may have lost my noodles, but anything is possible. Although it's been an awful season, we have beaten Aresnal, real madrid and inter along the way. Who knows what can happen in one off games.

If we were to win the champions league it would mean something drastic changes in the way we play. Its a shame there isn't one of those behind the scenes documentaries this season as id love to see some of the de-briefs and half time talks.
Its frustrating i think that just when it seems things are about to click we take a step backwards. Beating Villa and Real Madrid wasnt a fluke but neither were the losses to PSV and Forest.

I used to enjoy reading your posts for many years but of late you seem to have become so entrenched in your own beliefs, that you decry anybody who doesn’t hold an equal view to yours.
I could be completely wrong in my belief that Slot (while being incredibly appreciative of last years league win) hasn’t got the ability as a coach to change and improve us now.
I truly hope I’m wrong.

Ron give it a rest about excitement, the issues the slow ponderous tactics that are not working, not how entertaining it is to watch. If this slow tactics was working 90% of the fans wouldn’t complain but it’s plain to see they are not and we are being outplayed.
For me, I am a Slot out advocate but if Jessie how won the CL and finished 4th based on seeing some sort of improvement in the first 10 games next season and challenging for the PL again I’d be accepting that I was wrong, but I pretty much will bet my house car and job on slot not winning the CL and Liverpool finishing 4th at the rate we are going we will be lucky to finish 6th.

I just remember when we were losing to the likes of Birmingham, Middlesbrough and Southampton in the league whilst losing in the 4th round of the FA cup to Burnley.
We won the CL that season, and finished 5th behind Everton.
It was seen as a success by the fanbase.
Different times but only 21 years ago.

It's amazing sometimes as to how low the CL is considered to be, if you think this underperforming team has a chance of winning it. While teams like Real and Barcelona, or Inter and Milan Juventus, or Bayern and Dortmund may be the two or three topdogs in their respective leagues, the CL is a collective of least 10-15 teams of the same topdog level.
Granted, I will accept that luck plays a part sometimes, but to assume this LFC team, with its current brand of football, has a chance of winning it is "pie in the sky" stuff.

The league has most likely gone but I don’t see why we couldn't win a cup competition. Rafa won big ears with a poorer squad and an emphasis on not losing rather than winning. We may be boring to watch but were obviously not easy to beat hence not losing for the past 7 or so games.

Ron - that 2004/ 05 season we were terrible in a very poor league. Middlesbrough finished 7th and Birmingham were 12th. Chelsea romped it that year. Perspective is we lost 14 games and still finished 5th on 58 points, nothing to write home about. Winning a UCL was a huge success with a bang below average team.
Completely different squad to the one we have now. Player wise Slot should be getting a much better return, but what ever reason can’t. I suspect he knows he is on borrowed time if honest. I like the guy but he is clearly not the answer. Problem is not all down to him though.

I agree with Ron. The CL is a different playing style especially against the bigger teams.
If anyone has bothered to notice rather than just slagging the manager off we actually do well against teams that want to play football against us.
Where we struggle is against teams that have an emphasis on defending with 11 men and scoring from set pieces. Unfortunately that is 99% of the premier league this season.
We strolled past Villa who tried to play out from the back, same with Real and we beat Inter in their own backyard.
The CL is actually a more real possibility than people think.

Fair enough, I understand you're clutching at straws when it comes to finding reasons to keep Slot onboard, but let's at least try to keep argumentative points somewhat within the realms of possibility.
Yeah we won the CL in a lacklustre season, but it wasn't a terribly competitive year. At that time we were still a decent cup team, still a nuisance for European clubs, rules weren't as strict, there was no var, we had unbelievable passion in the players and fans, Anfield was the king of intimidation, and we had Gerrard. Not to mention we also had a pretty handy run, Juventus and Chelsea were the only 2 quality teams we had to play.
