One for THE FIELDS to anserw.

Im wondering why the negative post on Hughes and the comments seem harsh TBH

I don't know him from Adam, but during the summer window the delight and excitement on this site was infectious. IMO the only mistake was Guehi deal. I just felt he misread CP and could have got it done much earlier.

I don't see any statements from Hughes ever? He seems mostly to keep his council in public and, as was always the LFC way we don't get confirmation until players are in the building.

I actually read posts where people openly admitted getting it wrong about the man and changed their opinions on here.

Why now are we starting to get this sort of post? I'm not ITK like you are, I'm just wondering.

My own views are based on what I see, in terms of the Slot situation but that's purely based on what product I see on the pitch. Hence I believe we should change the manager.

YNWA.

I have to say I really miss ed2 and his input God rest his soul. I feel like the majority of the ITKs aren't really ITK, like Macca or ed2 used to be. I have read so much on here which is fun and great entertainment but very little in terms of actual happenings at the club.

No offence intended to any of the ITKs but more of an observation from my side having been following the site for 16/ 17 years way before it was only Liverpool rumours.

Ed002 is a huge miss and the kind of info he got for all of us was simply amazing. I don't think anyone can do what he did actually and it would be unfair foe the ITKs to be compared to him. Ed002 was a unique individual and we were privileged and lucky to be able to access his insights and knowledge.

Fair point Kha. To be honest I only listen to Carra.

04 Jan 2026 10:09:39
You know what I don't get chrisy.

How can two no marks who couldn't lay a glove on us under one of the top 3 managers in world football can think they know better and can come in and rip up what he implemented, a mostly exciting successful style of play reviled and copied throughout the league? Is that why he went out and blew the budget wide open? Trying to compensate for the lack of knowledge?

04 Jan 2026 10:17:48
I feel that Carra seems to be the most ITK of the current ITK's and I always look forward to their posts.

If you look at our summer we extended VVD and Mo which at the time seemed a big positive as they were still at the top of their game and for continuity.
Isak for Nunez
Ekitike after the sad loss of Diogo
Kerkez for Tsimikas/ long term Robbo replacement
Frimpong for Trent, not like for like but should have allowed us two expressive fullbacks.
Leoni for Quansah
And the wildcard Wirtz whilst not a direct Diaz replacement was meant to unlock low blocks.
It was mentioned Rios pathway wasn't to be blocked so another winger wasnt brought in.

The negatives being missing out on Guehi and not addressing the lack of bite in the midfield. Having said that we won the league last time at a canter without a typical DM.

At the time I don't think we could have asked for anything more, we didn't concede like we have being doing and scored far more so in theory the additions should have pushed us on to the next level.
Hindsight shows that VVD and Mo haven't been the same add to that the tactical stubbornness lack of fitness and injuries and we are where we are.
Can you imagine trying to replace both Mo and VVD in the summer as well as everyone else mentioned without getting a fee?
I don't know Hughes or how good or bad he really is but for me as mentioned before the buck stops with Slot, he has all the tools to turn things around. I hope that he can but worry that he won't. Top 4, maybe an FA Cup if he takes it seriously and a decent run in the Champions League is where my expectations are.

First of all, let's clear something up. I seem to be doing this every couple of weeks, I have never claimed to ITK. Most of the info I tend to get is non-LFC related and comes mostly from agents or people around players. I know people at various clubs across the country as well.

Chrisy, my opinions on Hughes are founded in actual discussions with him about business. I've met him twice at business events, 1 of which he was giving a talk about negotiations. Hence why I called him a snake oil salesman. I thought I would share my thoughts, something it seems the people with the moniker of ITK can't do by the reaction of some. Its easier to make deals when the player only wants to come here. Ekitike and Wirtz could of easily ended up elsewhere if we would of bumbled about like the Semenyo deal.

Carra is more connected to the club than I am.

04 Jan 2026 12:11:59
The funny thing is that those who go after Hughes have no idea what he does nor how he does it. hence in the summer of 2024 when we couldn't get the signings we wanted, people blamed Hughes.

Then this past summer where we spent all that money and "won" the transfer window, people gave him (and Edwards) a ton of credit. Now that things aren't going well (more on Slot's side than Hughes or Edwards, IMO), people are back on their backs again.

Sorry, those aren't opinions based on actual valid points. Those are arguments based on mood swings and emotional rollercoaster vibs, stuff I have no interest in, personally.

04 Jan 2026 12:15:58
Imagine how boring it would be if the ITK's weren't posting? Please show some respect even if you don't believe their information. Take it as read or with a pinch of salt, but let's respect the fact they take their time out to post in the first place.

I for one believe everything that's posted on here is the gospel!

04 Jan 2026 12:16:11
Im pretty sure TheFields did say that it was his opinion of Hughes, which was backed up by a mate who actually met him. but I might be wrong

But anyway, to answer the OP, as supporters, we all dream of shiny new toys (signings) during the transfer windows. How we get, or who gets them, is largely not worried about.
Its almost like we thrive on new signings, and disregard the how and why and whom.

So when we were making the signings, we were all singing happy songs.
If the Grinch was responsible for those signings, Im pretty sure we wouldn't care either, we'd just jump for joy with our new toys.

04 Jan 2026 12:41:21
Oli, don't make assumptions. You don't know what I know and my opinions are actually rooted in fact.

JLC, correct. My mate worked with him for the first year he was at Bournemouth before moving to another job. So he knows him a lot better than me or most people on here.

04 Jan 2026 13:16:22
I meant no offence to Fields or any other poster on here. I've only really been dipping into the site a few years until last year, now my Mrs thinks I'm addicted.

The window before last I remember the comments aimed at the club and Hugh's in particular being very harsh. Then the summer he was Lorded. My view is it's somewhere in between.

Personally I don't see his job as a difficult one. We are LFC after all!
Speculation that Slot is his man and is the reason he's still in a job is also wide of the mark. IMO.

I find most debate on here has a good balance, the poll is very telling although not scientific the result is most likely conclusive.

My own view is that no body is available that meets the requirements. As Ed001 says unless results get much worse we will stick.

My view is that Slot is setting us back, and will undo the years of upturn we've had. The sooner him and his Staff leave the quicker we can recover.

Hate to say it but I see a defeat today. So hope I'm wrong.

04 Jan 2026 13:34:44
But if Slot and his staff leave they will need to be replaced.
Who're going to replace them, help us recover and have us challenging at the very top whilst playing attacking and entertaining football?
It's easy to say what we want and need and that's why we are on here and the ones actually doing it are not.

04 Jan 2026 13:45:21
Thefields, don't get triggered, mate. Where in my post did I even mention your name? That will be nowhere.

Trust me if I were referring to you specifically, I would have done you the courtesy of mentioning your name so that you can fully understand who my comment was directed at.

So whind your neck in and keep it moving cos I never attacked you anywhere in my post.

04 Jan 2026 14:24:05
Fields, not sure why you bother. Thanks for coming on here and providing what you do.

04 Jan 2026 14:26:04
Chrisy. No offence taken mate.

Don't get me triggered? ?. Are you a Karen or something Oli? Jeez.

You commented on a post where the OP addressed it to me. You commented with your vagueness, so what am I suppose to think Oli especially when you say "those who go after Hughes" does that not imply me? I can do this all day mate ?.

04 Jan 2026 14:40:32
OliRed, who was your comment directed at, then?
'Those who go after Hughes'? That was Thefields does after Hughes so that would be Thefields, wouldn't it?

04 Jan 2026 15:04:27
RF, I love this site mate. Been coming on here since the football rumours days. The Eds do a cracking job and most of the posters are sound.

Nice one Rigsby, I thought it was just me thinking that ?.

04 Jan 2026 15:07:31
Fields is it your mate worked with Hughes during Hughes's first year there? in 2014?Was that Hughes's first days in any kind of role like that? if so i'd like to think that after a decades more experience he'd be much more knowledgeable about his role.

04 Jan 2026 16:08:56
FM, my mate was there 2012 til the summer of 2015. He had nothing to do with the players so didn't really know who he was until he was hired as an analysist. I really don't know that much about Hughes work history but I think it was his first appointment after retiring.

He wasn't appointed as technical director until after my mate left. I would hope he has learned a lot over that time as well but a lot like Slot, he seems out of his depth imo.
