Ed's - I noticed that Slot is whinging about injuries and effectively a thin squad. Why did we not add a few other players so we had decent squad depth?

{Ed001's Note - we have decent squad depth, they are just lacking fitness and a coach who bothers with the youth players. Instead of whining, Slot should get the players fitter and stop pissing off back to Holland every chance he gets and go watch the kids play to find out which of them could fill a gap in the squad.}

12 Jan 2026 22:02:26
Very excellent points Ed01.

{Ed001's Note - I get it was bad luck to lose Leoni, but almost every other manager in the Prem would kill to have his squad.}

12 Jan 2026 22:04:36
Or maybe those that coach the kids report that they're not good enough.

{Ed001's Note - I don't care, he should still go and look at them. If nothing else it helps the youth players to push on knowing that they are being watched by the first team coach. It is part of his job, if you are happy with him only doing half a job, then bully for you. I remember lots of superfans like you defending that muppet Bodgers as well, when he only did half a job because he was too busy dicking his secretary. Now we have another half-arsed manager who is too busy jetting off home instead of bringing his family over. It is never a good way to manage a football club, the job is too big to do it like that. You have to be all in and it has shown in the results and performances that he isn't.}

12 Jan 2026 22:21:22
What did Slot say, exactly?

Did you back Rodgers, Rome?

12 Jan 2026 22:26:52
OK, Ed01, for the record I'm no superfan, so let's not get personal. Though you might not be accusing me of being a superfan, to be fair to you. And I certainly wasn't upset when we got rid of Rodgers. I couldn't care less if Slot, allegedly, keeps flying back to the Netherlands, it wasn't an issue last season.

What I've seen of our youth, they're not ready yet, or never will be. We employ staff to manage them and for them to report to the head coach.

I'm not happy with the way we're playing, but I'm not looking to sack Slot at this moment in time. If you think that makes me a superfan I couldn't give a flying fish. I'll be there Saturday, singing myself hoarse, like I have for well over 40 years. Its what supporters do. Call me what you want.

{Ed001's Note - I wasn't accusing you of it no. Apologies if that is how it came across. You might not care if Slot keeps going back home, but if the team is playing crap and he is buggering off all the time, then it shows a lack of care for the job. If you want to get more out of your charges, you don't do that by being half-arsed yourself. The reason people responded to Klopp the way they did is because he led by example. He threw himself into everything and Slot simply doesn't. It shows in the sloppiness of the play, the lack of decent analysis of the opposition to find their weaknesses, the lack of time spent checking on the youth, even if just to give them a boost and the terrible fitness of the entire squad.

As for the youth not being ready yet, they never are until they get a chance.}

12 Jan 2026 22:46:37
I agree with Ed. Klopp will watch youth games whenever he gets the time. that's how most of the players got a game during his tenure.

12 Jan 2026 22:48:01
Just out of curiosity, when was the last time Slot went back to see his family? How often does he go back there?

12 Jan 2026 22:53:55
I totally agree about Klopp. He bought into the club 100% and is a legend for ever more. Loved by rival fans almost as much as our own.

Slot could never fill his boots, and he's never tried to. Alonso was the first name that came to mind when Klopp announced he was leaving, as he was most people. Football, like life, is all about timing. If Alonso had been available after the PSV debacle, not many, me included, would have been against him taking over. However, due to it being a very poor PL, we are still 4th, and we are still in 2 cups. I'm in an ever decreasing minority, on here, who is willing to see how we go over the next month or so. As I've said on chat, there is no guarantee that Alonso will wave a magic wand if he were to come in. He doesn't fill me with hope, belief and excitement that Klopp did.

Like I say, I'm in the minority on here, but things will have to get worse before I start saying Slot out.

12 Jan 2026 22:56:31
Oftentimes I don't agree with many posts on here, including from the eds. But that is probably the best post I've read in the 6 or 7 years I've been visiting this site. The job is simply too big not to have your family near. Time with them is scant enough given the demands of the job - - without him running off to Holland every chance.

From that position alone, he's lost. He must be 100 per cent in. In each and every way there is. From every conceivable angle. Look at Amorim, say what you want about him. But he breathed that job at United. Pep, same. Jurgen, same. There is no other way. And Slot is half arsed. Sack him ASAP.

12 Jan 2026 23:00:56
Any chance you can get Slot to do a 1 on 1 interview with you Ed001 so you could absolutely grill him? It would be absolute cinema.

12 Jan 2026 23:04:55
Didn't they put on a an academy showcase for Slot to look at n he never turned up. not sure if its true or not. if it is, that's not very good from the manager.

12 Jan 2026 23:08:09
So Ed, is the rumour that he didn't even bother showing up to a youth match made specifically for him true? If it is true, then it's not a good look, is it? It gives the impression to the youth players that the first-team coach doesn't really care about their progression at all.

On a different note, are Rome and Musiala actually the same person? Both have apparently been fans for 40 years, and both seem very busy lecturing anyone who hasn't enjoyed our performances over the last few months.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know if the story he never turned up is true. Sorry.

I don't believe Rome and Musiala are the same person, but stranger things have happened on the internet I guess. I have no way of really proving it one way or the other to be honest, unless they want to come on the podcast so we can see them both? It would be nice to get their point of view on there as well if they are interested.}

13 Jan 2026 02:28:58
I'd do it.

13 Jan 2026 02:42:17
I said the same thing a few days ago about Slot not being settled and I was rebuked and reminded he won the league last season and that it didn't matter then.
It's clear that the job of managing LFC is too important for this living-out-of-suitcase approach.

There were extenuating family circumstances initially for his kids. But to keep this going after 2 years is really disrespectful to the institution called LFC.

13 Jan 2026 02:58:46
Hi Ed01 - Last year we were full of praise when Slot corrected in 2nd half and we would go on to win.

He was praised for the changes after reading the game initially and adjusting tactically in 2nd. Not sure what happened to it.

I think he wanted to change / completely move away from what was working to a new style that has his print.

Nothing wrong with that but if it was introduced gradually, it might have been better.

I don't have any pov on where he stays on how itvimpacts team or youth.

These are professuonal players and if they want to play for living, they don't have to look for external motivation.

13 Jan 2026 03:10:39
A little silly calling out Rome and Musiala. I broadly agree with their views on keeping Slot until the end of the season, as do a few other posters. there's no more lecturing than there is from the Slot Out posters. Can't we just accept fans have differing views? Surely that's partly what this site is about?

13 Jan 2026 06:30:58
Sorry but I think slot has to go. I have been saying it for weeks that he is not the man to take us forward. Yes we haven't lost the last few games but we either look toothless against decent opposition or are very lacklustre against mid-lower table opposition. We don't play with any energy, it's like the players are going for walk in a park.

I mean the goal gifted to Barnsley last night by slobo…. sorry but he would never have dreamed about doing that if klopp had been in charge. The fact is slot is ?committed to managing one of the biggest clubs in the world and that shows in both the attitude othe players and how they are playing.

13 Jan 2026 06:39:03
They are far from the same poster. Rome is a good guy and thoughtful poster and always good craic on the live chat. He just isn't in the "Slot out" brigade, that's fair enough. He has a different opinion, big deal.

13 Jan 2026 07:26:04
Mfahmee2, I'm not Musiala, I assure you. Thank you for the kind words Irish, without blowing smoke, I've always enjoyed reading your posts. We don't always agree, but that is what the site is all about. I don't always agree with my wife, but we've been married for 38 years! And, actually, for the record, I've been going to Anfield since 1976, though not much in the early days.

Also, if I come across as lecturing, that is never my intention, and I'm sorry. There will probably come a time when I'm asking for a change. I hope not, because we will be back to the Hodgson/ Rodgers days, and none of want yo go back there. We're not there yet.

All the best to everybody. Have a good day wherever you are.

13 Jan 2026 07:29:11
Szoboszlai missing a backheel in his own box is also slot's fault now. can we be fair about what we can lay at his door and what we shouldn't?

Szoboszlai also sprinted the length of the pitch to stop the player scoring, which was why he was in the box in the first place, if he was casual and couldn't be arsed under the manager that wouldn't have happened. Funny you should highlight the backheel as being indicative of him having a bad attitude but not the full sprint back to defend.

13 Jan 2026 07:32:58
Rome is not lecturing anyone. He is giving his own opinion on the situation while acknowledging that it might be different from others.

13 Jan 2026 07:57:30
It's really poor management of the club to let Slot keep flying back to Holland before he got the job he should have been told they expect him to move here.
As for youth players not being ready that is crap they was ready under Klopp because he had everything inline with the first team so it was an easy transition because they knew what they was doing.
Slot is treating this league like the Dutch league and they could not be further apart the top teams only have to turn up to win the games there apart for 4 games a season.
You need to be 100% in every game in the premier league or you will get caught with your pants down.
As for him moaning about squad depth what's the point in having a big squad if you only use the same players and the others are nowhere near fit enough to play when they come in.
I've been a fan now for about 45 years and he is the worst manager I've seen us have.

If you give Roy Hodgson these group of players we would be better that this.
Am gutted he his by the sound of it keeping his job till the summer because it is going to be a battle with him in charge to get top 5 in one of the worst leagues I've seen in a long time. And there is no way we are winning the champions league or fa cup under him.
And to make things worse we have 17 more league games to watch this awful football.
I feel so sorry for Mo and Virgil been totally class footballers for us both make it into our all time 11 and with not many seasons left that clown has just waisted one they both should have been collecting the 3 league medals this year and maybe a champions league one too as there is no great team around I don't think but instead we go and hand into to Arsenal who are a very average team.

13 Jan 2026 07:53:14
We've got decent squad depth except at CB, CM and LW which are the areas of the pitch where players form has dropped the most. We still should have won more games and played better football regardless.

13 Jan 2026 08:16:12
So with Slot only part-time, does this mean we are back in the Evans/ Houllier phase? With Van Bronckhorst being at the reins too?

From watching games last season Heitinga had an awful lot of input last season, especially around substitutions and now it makes sense. Also shows why he felt he could do the job at Ajax. Why do the job here and not get the recognition?

Before anyone says Heitinga didn't make waves at Ajax, Van Bronckhorst was poor at Rangers, although he did manage to win the Scottish Cup with a league winning side.

13 Jan 2026 08:19:48
Wow, Slot is the worst manager you have ever seen take charge of Liverpool and even Roy would do a better job, grino? I am honestly flabbergasted.

13 Jan 2026 08:47:34
Yeah Patrik the club was in a total mess when Roy took over one of the worst squads we have had. So it was hard for anyone but this squad is full of quality players and he plays terrible football that puts you to sleep.

He is not doing his job to anywhere near the level he should be because if his training methods means our players are not fit enough that for me is the basic and that should never happen that the players are not fit enough.

13 Jan 2026 08:54:32
Let's be fair and honest about it all, we have a group of players of the highest quality in our squad and individual brilliance is what is getting us goals and points. Clearly everyone can see that there are either, no tactics, the players don't understand the tactics or the players are refusing to follow the tactics. I'm not screaming slot out but I can't see us improving and I can't see him changing his ways. It kills me watching us play currently. I am overseas (7 hours ahead) and have missed the last two games (watched the next day on catch up) because it's not worth staying up for, previous years I tune in no matter what the time whether I was in Asia, Australia or where ever.

Surely even the die hards can agree that what we are seeing, week in week out, is not what we have seen for many years (except wobbly woys time). And remember noone had been backed in the transfer market ever like slot has (I've been watching since 74 cup final), klopp only got money when we made money (coutiniho). I don't know what the answer is but what I am seeing definitely isn't it.

13 Jan 2026 09:32:08
On a positive note Slot has more air points than Everton have points in the league.

13 Jan 2026 09:32:44
Just checking, Rome. Just to be clear — I don't mean to be offensive, and you really don't need to apologise. I don't mean "lecturing" in a bad way. It just means that we all probably sound a bit like we're lecturing from time to time here, myself included, especially when we're passionate about something. It's a forum, after all.

And have a good day to you too, wherever you are.

13 Jan 2026 10:14:33
Cheers to you, mfahmee2. Good health, mate. For the record, I'm in the Black Country.

13 Jan 2026 10:33:00
I think the players are generally following the tactics, they just don't suit all of them or bring out the best in all of them. The tactics are to control the game, and stifle the opposition, and do rely on clinical attacking players to create and score goals as there won't be lots of chances spread throughout the team.

As Arne said though, and he's right, against low blocks and 10 behind the ball, it can be hard to create lots of chances but it's probably harder to produce any sort of free flowing football as there's just no space.

Arsenal play a similar way, but with better results than us, because they have the players to suit the system, or players who are in a better vein of form. They're better from set pieces as well. Arguably they're not much better to watch despite the points difference, and actually as last week showed there's not much between the sides. Probably Saka, Rice and one of the CB's are making the difference.

13 Jan 2026 11:39:36
As a comparison, how fit was the team when Roy Hodgson was manager?
I was watching games on the telly but I really can't remember. I wasn't using online forums that can give insights into training and players' and managers' personal lives either so I have no idea.
What was it like?

13 Jan 2026 13:31:04
Can't believe we're comparing Hodgson to Slot. Don't think Slot has sold the wrong player yet but I guess he's got a couple of weeks left to emulate dear Roy.
