Morning
I was reading in one of the tabloid paper today that we are interested in Mickey van de Ven.
He hasn't signed a new contract with Spurs.
Is there any truth to the rumor?

22 Jan 2026 10:30:12
Hopefully not because he's crap.

22 Jan 2026 11:06:11
Hopefully not ? crossing everything its fake news ?.

22 Jan 2026 11:16:40
No chance, VVD and VDV in defence is just going to confuse out of everyone….

22 Jan 2026 11:21:05
There's a defender who has bags of pace. He is also a goal scoring defender which also helps, the only thing is he needs a team who will cover him when he goes off on those lung busting attacks.

Do we have the right personnel to make this a successful transfer? Also will we need to change the way we play if he was to sign.

I would love to have him at the club just don't know how the setup would have to be altered.

22 Jan 2026 11:29:40
I hope not.

On top of being injury prone, he is a terrible defender. No better than Konate.

22 Jan 2026 11:30:07
I'd rather us play Rhys Williams than buy VDV tbh. He's just not that good as a defender. Very athletic and fast but completely brainless. Add to that he has been getting a lot of injures most likely due to his playing style, and we should stay well clear of him.

22 Jan 2026 12:06:18
Dracred, I assume you mentioned Rhys Williams with tongue in cheek?! Couldn't cut it at Morecambe and Kidderminster and you're comparing him with a defender who's likely to fetch 80 million. I'm indifferent regards to Van de Ven, but for some to say he's crap is ludicrous. There won't be a shortage of takers when he does come to leave.

{Ed025's Note -very quick player Rome..especially for a defender, but like the Straw man in the "Wizard of Oz"...he lacks a brain mate..

22 Jan 2026 12:27:41
Morning Ed025, hope you're keeping well, mate.

Like I say, I'm indifferent to him. I suppose you could say he's the defending equivalent to Adama Traore. But I wouldn't say he's crap.

{Ed025's Note - hi Rome, i dont think hes crap mate but he does lose concentration at times and has a lack of awareness on occasion i think, could improve in a better side though..

22 Jan 2026 12:31:58
Van de Ven is crap Rome. The only reason why he looks like a decent defender is because he has the pace to get him out of trouble. He is constantly out of position each game and his centre back partner is put under even more pressure trying to cover the gaps and holes he leaves behind when he isn't able to get back after getting caught out.

Maybe Williams was a bit of a stretch. My point was I'd rather rely on our youngsters or players we have hanging around than buy a defender as bad as him. He'd just be a waste of money for me.

22 Jan 2026 12:32:46
All Spurs defenders since Alderweireld and Verthongen have lacked brains. It might be a requirement of signing for them.

Although, now that I think of it, weren't we told van Dijk was brainless and Jose Fonte did all his thinking for him at Southampton?

22 Jan 2026 12:45:26
Trust you Ed025 to make a funny anecdote out of the Straw Man ?.

{Ed025's Note - its what i do Barry mate.. :)

22 Jan 2026 12:55:42
All this makes the Guehi saga all the more tragic.

Very badly handled indeed.

22 Jan 2026 13:11:51
Indeed, Ed25. VDV is exactly, as you describe him.

22 Jan 2026 13:13:24
He doesn't want to sign a new contract but Spurs apparently want £100m for him.

You could buy at least 2 CB's as good as him for £100m.

22 Jan 2026 14:35:13
I wouldn't want him for free, Shipley. £100m is hilarious lol.

22 Jan 2026 16:23:34
"He doesn't want to sign a new contract but Spurs apparently want £100m for him. ".

Yeah, Shipley. Make that make sense.

22 Jan 2026 18:45:18
@Mbwell, he has Parc and the odd goal in him but sadly, for a CB, he can't defend. His pace flatters him but if he could defend properly he shouldn't need to rely solely on pace all the time.
