Hey ed001 and other posters
Would you keep slot next season if we were to somehow win champions league, can only dream but not impossible.
Or would you take alonso next year.
I think I m Alonso all the way.
Cheers.
{Ed001's Note - depends on what happens along the way. If we continue to play the same crap as last night, no point keeping him. If he learns and improves the footie, then I would be thinking a UCL is worth keeping him for.}

He's persevered with the crap football for a year now. He's unlikely to learn or adapt.

I thought we played well in the second half last night. Just my perspective.

Yeah, we did, Hessle. But that's more like an exception than the norm. More than once this season, we have been hopeful that Slot has learnt his lesson and reverted back to what worked last season, but he has persistently kept the dross that we have been seeing.
I am slightly jaded with that, so I can't see him ever learning from his mistakes this season, tbh, and I think it's best that we part ways.

Nothing can justify keeping Slot next year for me. He has proven unable or unwilling to change the boring, slow play for months. Even if we started playing amazing football again and won the CL and FA Cup, would you trust him to stick with that? I would not. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
Not to mention, he just doesn't seem up to standards at all this year in any respect, does he? Man management, tactics, line ups, subs, press conferences, nothing is going well for him, and he hasn't improved all season. For me, giving him a third season, regardless of how this one ends now, would be a massive mistake.

C'mon now... No chance for me of us winning the CL this season, but if we miraculously do, then it'd be hard to get rid of him based on a prem and CL in his or anybody's first two seasons!!

Yeh, right. He's gonna win a CL and be let go.

Slot is 7 games away from winning a CL (alongside 15 other managers) and 9 games away from winning the PL.

What's more likely to happen first - Slot changes his style to suit playing with wide attacking fullbacks and wingers who can't beat a man, or Hughes & co buy players that suit the way Slot wants to play?

Previous seasons I used to look at Champions League fixtures and think we could win the upcoming game and definitely be in with a shout for the trophy itself.
Now I'm looking at the Galatasaray games and thinking that we could even go out of the competition at this stage.
I just can't see Slot changing things enough over the next 2 and a bit months to keep him in the job.
The football is truly awful. There are constant feelings of frustration and disbelief during every game.
And I'm just some old geezer in his armchair.
How a highly paid, professional coach can't see and fix the problems we have on the training ground and the pitch leads me to think he's not up to it. Not at this club.
That is a major failing for him, because, even though we won the league in his first season, I get the feeling that he's never really got this club.

Still progress, Cantremember. A lot had us down to lose in the play-offs to qualify for the last 16, seen as we weren't gonna finish in the top 8. So technically it would still be outperforming people's expectations.

If Slot does leave in the summer, can we still start every day on the forum with a semi-literate attack on his character and/or perceived lack of job skills? The days just won't seem the same without it.

How many's a lot? On the basis of 500 million worldwide fans, 7 people on a banter page don't really constitute a lot.
FSG and the club don't base their targets on people's expectations, though.
We all know CL qualification next season is the bare minimum to continue to make money & attract the top players.
2-legged CL knockout football might actually suit us, especially as we're the third-best team in the comp based on the crazy league format.

I get what you're saying, Florian, but my argument is that we should never have been in that position in the first place, mate.

Slot gets no. 7. Slot stays. If he doesn't, he walks. It's that simple.
