Hi Ed's, I see a lot of posters speaking as if Alonso is done. I get that carra has already said that slot will go in summer, but is it premature to start considering Alonso as done? The club usually goes against the grain or trends, so I am fully expecting someone like Hoeness to come in.

Apologies if this has been done to death, just wanted your opinion. Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - he was first choice before Slot and I see no reason to believe that will have changed.}

Thanks Ed. From a personal point of view, I would love Alonso to come in, but will support whoever they bring in, apart from Slot. Haha. In all seriousness though, I think it is fair to say his tenure is coming to an end.

Ed, if all three — Slot, Hughes, and Edwards — leave at the end of the season, do you think the thought process for selecting a new manager will change? Will Alonso still be the first choice, or will a new DoF want to bring in his own guy? Also, if a new DoF is brought in, will the summer transfer plan change?

{Ed001's Note - I would still expect Alonso to be first choice.

How can I tell that? It would be down to the new guy to decide,}

If Hughes is gone, my worry is they will give the job back to Ward. It's the easiest way. He's already at the club, so there's no need to interview new candidates. It seems like he was a bit out of his depth in the role before.

You're not wrong there, mfahmee2. FSG have shown that they promote from within, which isn't bad. However, with their mates.

Hoeness would probably be an acceptable third or fourth choice, but surely the club has to appoint the best available manager with the best underlying metrics? Xabi is heads and shoulders above any other candidate in the market, and he has ties to the club to boot, he surely has to be at the very top of the list, way ahead of somebody like Hoeness, who has no experience at the very top of European football.

Klopp was the same, the closest thing to being an absolute no-brainer of an appointment.

I'm just hoping we have been putting the feelers out and having some sort of agreement with him, lest we end up with somebody like Nagelsmann, who I really don't rate at all.

Said it a few times.. can't get past the emotional tie to Alonso as first choice...

But if we end up with Hoeness.. then yes, would also be happy with that. Simply because of his all action style... can he manage big egos and big expectations..

who knows... surprised Spurs didn't go for him tbh.

Also... not sure if we can afford to get the next one wrong.. not gonna win every game.. but we need to compete on all fronts and play some youth now and then...

I love Crystal Ball Tuesdays!

Ed001, If Salah, Konate, Gakpo and Mac Allister all leave in the summer how many less units of the letter 'A' will we sell in the club shop for shirt printing, and what will be the exact impact this has on the transfer budget?

{Ed001's Note - 5k and it will mean we have to sell lots more Zs to enable us to buy anyone at all, as the letters will be sold priced at their Scrabble scores from this summer.}

Always happy to see more Zeds sold. ?

Patrik, don't they both come from a poor German league?

Might as well get someone from the Dog and Duck.

I really don't know how to respond to your posts most of the time, JK. Is there some sort of veiled jibe in there to something I said previously or something?

07 Apr 2026 17:31:38
JK47 has you in his targets and he's taking pot shots. I'd run for the hills. d4.

07 Apr 2026 17:43:29
Oh, okay, please have mercy, JK, one lash of your razor sharp wit and I'll curl into a ball and die in the corner.

To return to the topic, if pressed, I think I'd take Iraola over Hoeness, but Xabi above everyone else.

07 Apr 2026 17:46:16
Pat, strange that mate, as you seem to respond to every one of my posts.

It's a banter site, mate. Say what you want, it's just a bit of tongue in cheek.

07 Apr 2026 17:59:37
Pat don't be triggered and offended mate.

Send your details to the Eds to
Forward to me and we'll organise a game next season.

At this rate it might not be Anfield or Liverpool but we'll get to a game

07 Apr 2026 18:04:21
Well, I think it's simply good manners to respond when I'm addressed. I see no reason to ignore you.

07 Apr 2026 18:19:23
Happy days mate.
