Currently watching 'Ice Cold! All 27 of Alexander Isak's Goals from 24/25' just so I can reassure myself that he wasn't a complete waste of money and will come good.

Great player Isak.

21 Apr 2026 21:09:43
What was your conclusion?

21 Apr 2026 21:12:23
I've just watched this, and it's surprising how many of his goals are basically tap ins from static positions or headers in the six yard box. There's a few more dynamic finishes from further out, including the one against us, but he's essentially a goal poacher with very little movement.

I can only guess our transfer people thought Wirtz would set him up, as without wingers I can't see where the supply was going to come from to replicate his Newcastle goals.

21 Apr 2026 21:34:16
Overkill - yes need to continue in transfer market to get the most out of Wirtz and Isak.

Since his return I haven't been expecting much because it's not like he's the type of player to take the game by the scruff of the neck y'know

21 Apr 2026 21:40:30
Thanks Overkill for the assestment and that actually was, and still is my worry about him. I watched some youtube videos analyzing him when we were going to buy him and while they rave about him, they did say that his biggest virtue was being in the right place at the right time.

My worry is that his style wouldn't suit LFC but I didn't imagine that we were going to play like we are playing now which suits no one at our team.

It's mad how many posts during the summer were about needing more Kleenex and now weee writing these players off. Fickle much?

21 Apr 2026 22:10:05
Well said changing

21 Apr 2026 22:42:00
Changingofthegvardiol - I can accept this kind of critique if you can be specific about who is making contradictory statements.

For me, once we had Ekitike and Wirtz, I was not on board with Isak at all and have been saying this for months. nothing to do with him as a player but just felt that we could have used that money to address the squad depth instead of breaking records on a player who, at that time, i thought would take away from Ekitike and vice versa.

now, maybe a blessing in disguise for Isak with Ekitike's injury. But I still see a lot of necessary work with the squad to be able to bring the best out of Isak's finishing ability

21 Apr 2026 22:50:38
Indeed, @Changing. I propose people looking for reassurances on Witz and Isak stop wasting their time judging them under this manager and his current (non) system because as @Dominican said, nobody looks good and frankly, we are good at next to nothing playing the way he wants us to play except playing sideways passes across the back line.

Just hope we get a new manager who will get the best out of all the players next season and then, we can judge them honestly.

Overkill, that's exactly what I was saying last summer when I first heard we were in for him. His game is heavily reliant on delivery. He just doesn't fit the style of play that's been working for us for the last 8 years. No cohesion in terms of vision between Edwards Hughes and Slot if you ask me. Hopefully Xabi comes in along with a couple of additions and figures out how to get the best out of this squad.

Changinofthegavardiol, nobodys written him off, injuries aside, he is a bit of a stylistic mismatch which is always a concern. We just have to wait and see what happens, a lot of changes happening last and this summer. I'd love nothing more than to see Isak bag 20/30 goals a season but admittedly, I was neveroverly keen on in him. I always said he was heavily reliant on service and an accident waiting to happen. You can be critical of the decision to buy him and still support him. So long as he wears the badge I'll be rooting for him.

A good analogy of this is that we bought all the components to put together a Ferrari Daytona with the hope it was being driven by peak Michael Schumacher, only to somehow build a beige Austin Allegro with a vinyl roof with it being driven by Mr Magoo.

I met one of the Brentford analysts tonight. He wasn't really too open but did make some comments about how grateful they are to Liverpool . Buying isak allowed them sell wissa for over £50m they were delighted with that as knew they were cashing in big time on wissa. They also couldn't understand why Liverpool didn't just buy mbeuno (apparently he wanted to go to Liverpool .). They also could not believe they got kelleher for 12m, the upgrade on flekken is unbelievable in their eyes on they got roughly the same for him.

They think Liverpool have made some very big mistakes in the market which said is so unlike them; there's nothing new here just was interesting the way he was talking it was like they were talking openly about taking advantage of some really poor Liverpool decisions .

22 Apr 2026 03:39:25
Mbuemo is a Man United fan who only ever wanted to play for them so the analyst is talking out of their hoop about that. The rest is fair.

22 Apr 2026 05:36:00
Iirc Kelleher also only had one year left in his contract with us and was looking to leave. We wouldn't have been able to get much more for him tbh especially since he was also a second choice keeper for us and were looking to respect his wishes for staying an additional year for us

22 Apr 2026 05:40:04
Doesn't Mbeumo play RW? Back then we had a certain TW who was going to be prime CR7 for the next decade

22 Apr 2026 06:25:18
Next season is certainly a big one for both players. New manager hopefully, pre season for both so no excuses and nowhere to hide.

22 Apr 2026 06:47:34
I'm sure Isak will come good. Needs to be fully-fit, let alone the team playing to his strengths.

22 Apr 2026 07:23:12
Isak is a great player like most of the squad. Many on here have convinced themselves otherwise. The only one who isn't great is the fraud in the dugout.

22 Apr 2026 08:12:12
The German league is a farmers league until it comes to justifying Wirtz as player of the year and Alonso for winning it where its then a strong league.

Posters claimed to know Slots blueprint months ago of fullbacks playing wide to get the best out of Isak are now saying he doesn't suit the style of play and they have though that since he signed in the summer.

22 Apr 2026 09:01:50
Mbeumo is a confirmed United fan. He only wanted to go to them.
Kelleher was in his last year, was pushing for a move, and we kinda owen him one. What a number 2 he was.
Wissa. Of course they are going to say that but it didn't look like that in the summer

22 Apr 2026 11:59:02
Indeed, ViktorVaughan. That is a good analogy overall.

@JB12 if the Brentford analyst knew Mbeumo at all, he would have known that Mbeumo was a United fan and only wanted to go there. So how is he saying that we should have signed him instead of Isak?

Also they sold Mbeumo to United for 70m with one year left on his deal which IMO, was daylight robbery. He was prolly hoping we would spend that on Mbeumo so they could collect the cash and be "happy".

22 Apr 2026 12:49:02
Vik, we bought genuine Ferrari parts but we got the mechanic from Halfords.

23 Apr 2026 00:35:57
Slot's preferred style involves inverted fullbacks, dynamic wing play linked together by CAM / CM pivots
