Can't believe the negativty over Barcola and Minteh. I remember when we signed Robertson, the backlash as City had forked out 50M on Mendy and look how that worked. And people not happy when we signed Salah.

Let's give them a chance as Salah is irreplaceable but they are both young and with the right coaching they could become amazing. Let's just trust the football club and support them if they join.

I think the negativity from Barcola stems from the fact we've been pushing, monitoring, enquiring, negotiating, evaluating, and keeping tabs on every day since the Battle of the Somme, and there doesn't appear to be any movement.

That's nothing to do with the clubs or player though @TCS, it's the social media generation sense of entitlement and expectation of instant gratification.

Andoni has played 660 career games as a full back (+7 caps for Spain also), so it's quite obvious there is no one better to give an expert opinion on a winger.

He will know the strengths of a winger! And the weakness of a winger? He had two crackers in Semenyo and Rayan at Bournemouth.

If Andoni is happy with BB, then you have to support the manager's choice, which I shall be doing as he knows more about wingers than even Wikipedia! All of his signings for Bournemouth also give me great hopes for his LFC career (if they match his playing career, he will have been doing something right?).

It's the Viktor effect, everyone is an expert on every single footballer these days.

There wasn't much movement at The Battle of the Somme either, Chicko.
Barcola not having signed yet and one of the deadliest battles in history in the same sentence is an interesting take, though.

Barcola and Minteh would do me looking around the market. Both have issues, but both have massive strengths also. And in my view they compliment each other nicely.

Both have played opposite flank too, if we want to switch it up mid game and get the crosses in.

Do I wish there was a better winger market? Yes.

But these two, I think, have what it takes to make it.

Barcola needs to take more responsibility as a main man. I think he says away from that sometimes, despite having the ability. Needs to work hard on defensive side too.

Minteh - end product needs some work.

Still, under Iraola I fancy them to improve those items. I like the potential there and both are speed demons. Along with Munoz.

I hope we get them over the line.

He's literally injured. The mediocrity of last season has seriously taken its toll on our fans.

Minteh doesn't get anywhere close to Arsenal/Man City line up.

21 Aug 2026 18:27:58
Surely Brighton rejecting £60m will be the end of that. Mbaye possibly starting to look like a massive bargain.

21 Aug 2026 18:31:35
Which right winger available does get in the Arsenal or City teams? I guess we can't buy anyone.

21 Aug 2026 18:35:38
I don't remember the negativity over the signing of Robertson or Salah, Jgrant. Maybe there was some when Robertson started playing as he was initially poor and then didn't play for a while so it looked like we had bought a dud but I don't remember negativity over the actual signing.

Regardless, you're comparing apples with oranges. That was back when we had a transfer team who planned windows a year in advance and knew what they were doing.

Now Dick Hughes is at the wheel and is burning through our reserves with no plan. He's winging it.

Can Marmoush play on the right? Would he be a better player.

21 Aug 2026 18:55:12
Barcola and Minteh. Two speedy pressing monsters. Get them two (although Mbaye would be even better), a MF and a RB, and our squad would be sorted.

LFC8, I beg to differ and I can prove it. I really think our fans have lost touch with what different kinds of wingers offer. Salah and Mane were freaks and they've warped our perception of goal output from wingers.

1. Madueke got 3 Prem goals (26 games)
2. Martinelli got 1 Prem goal (30 games)
3. Savinho got 1 Prem goal (24 games)
4. Doku got 5 Prem goals (30 games)
5.

Trossard got 6 Prem goals (31 games)
6. Saka got 7 Prem goals (31 games)
7. Marmoush got 3 Prem goals (21 games)
8. Minteh got 3 Prem goals (34 games)

Minteh is the joint youngest player there (with Savinho), and he also wasn't playing in a team that was competing for the title. So let's not pretend he's absolutely miles off the level of the wingers at Man City and Arsenal.

Minteh is literally injured? As opposed to what?
Daniel Sturridge injured? ?

21 Aug 2026 21:17:04
To be fair, though, he didn't use the word literally in a figurative manner which is nice.
