West Ham United Ladies 4 - 1 Liverpool Ladies
2 o'clock kick off (YouTube) with the big one to follow shortly after had me anticipating a carlsberg sunday, . sadly a snarling carling sunday ensuedπ
The girls started okay and had a couple of chances but just 5 mins in our right side exposed, Bergstom R/W sleeping (ball watching) R/B Kerr pushed over to far (trying to cover our C/B's too close together) saw the WH C/B play a simple pass over the top into glaring space, which 2 uncontested WH players neatly manoeuvred the ball into the box, a toe in challenge from Fuka had the WH forward flipping over (salmon like on a smartie diet) and a very soft/harsh penalty was awarded & scored, 1-0
14 mins in, a quick turnover saw WH CM Leila Wandeler gain possession in space turn & run at will, CB Clark should have engaged, Kerr tried to do her job for her but that left her player unmarked & a quick one/two saw Wanderler score unchallenged from the penalty spot area, 2-0, . a nice goal from WH's perspective but woeful from Liverpool π
The next 30 minutes our girls had the majority of possession, some neat play and plenty of effort as usual but nothing in the final third saw the WH goalkeeper troubled, yet during this period WH still created 3 chances with quick fire football, one effort hitting the crossbar, in the 44th minute with space to spare, unchallenged CB Laia Codina had a free shot from 20 yds that took a cruel deflection leaving Khiara Keating no chance in goal, the girls now going in @ H/T 3-0 down π, the WH goalkeeper wasn't troubled in the entire 1st 45.
2nd half, Vivien Endemann our most dynamic forward player was subbed on, strangely she replaced Natalia Ramos π€·πΌββοΈ not sure why Natalia was subbed off, she certainly wouldn't have been my choice as she has a very good understanding alongside Vivien, also Gareth Taylor chose to start Viv on the left wing π§ why π€·πΌββοΈ right wing she's normally quite brilliant, .
Our 1st shot on target finally after 53mins by Alice Bergstrom was comfortably saved. WH sub on Rico Ueki and within a minute she wins WH a free kick on the edge of the box, Viviane Asseyi's shot curled directly into the top left corner for her 2nd goal, 4-0 π
On 66mins Mao Itamura replaced Bergstrom with Vivien Endemann finally switching to her proper position on the right wing, Mao is a very nice player (not sure why she was on the bench either), my immediate thoughts were "now we'll see some real attacking intent", . and so it transpired .71mins, a quick ball from Fuka Nagano into Mao who delivered a sumptuous outside of the foot pass to Vivien Endemann, she dispatched the fullback easily, ran into the box and her left foot shot (slight deflection) hit the back of the net πͺ, . lovely goal 4-1, we now look like a different team.
For the rest of the game Liverpool were almost totally dominant, Fuka Nagano playing more advanced more often was superb, Cornelia Kapocs no longer central but on the left wing where she excels was being assisted that side by the tireless Alejandre Bernabe (very good player & exhausting to watch) Viv dangerous on the right, Mao linking play nicely with some lovely touches, the girls finished the game looking like a top 3 side rather than a team sat 4th from bottom, but we were still lacking centrally in the box, I would like to see Natalia Ramos given a go playing centre forward.
A couple of forays forward very late on nearly saw WH add to their total but 4-1 it was, our girls overall will be bitterly disappointed, the way we finished the game was evidence Taylor has very good players @ his disposal, he is not without criticism, his tactical approach and mystifying team selections are often somewhat baffling, our spirited players give their all each and every game, I'm beginning to wonder if Gareth Taylor is the manager our girls deserve π€, possession based football with little end product and being easily countered is not a recipe for success, he could be on borrowed time as I'm not sure he has the answers.
Next up is a home WSL game vs Arsenal @ 12 o'clock on Sunday
Not a Dark Arts Arteta scenario but a tough game all the same.

Lots of doom and gloom on the site today but I'm not sure why. Arsenal did what Arsenal do. They were very solid defensively, won a lot of second balls and doubled up on us on our wingers and attackers. It was a pen and if Isak had gone down or at least protested it would have been given. Macca should have scored and Isak had a good chance. Also ref was very fussy and every time they fell over they got a free kick. So yes it was frustrating we didn't get something from the game but give credit to what Arsenal do well. It's not for me but it works for them. The last live game before this I watched was Crystal Palace at the end of last season and I enjoyed what I saw in spells in this game more than that one, even though we lost this one. We have been spoilt in the past with 2 full backs that created goals for fun and having someone like Bobby who created and scored goals.
This team is different. We don't have that so we need the wingers to probably be more direct and when they get one on one be more clinical. Isak is a different kind of striker and would have thrived on the service from Trent and Robbo in the past but he is a goal that but won't lead the line like Bobby did. I still am not sure about Wirtz. I so want him to succeed but he needs to do more of his good stuff in the oppositions box and I do think if he doesn't do this maybe at the end of the season we have to let him go. We have a young team and I think we are probably 2-3 players away from challenging as its a much more open league but I for one am not going to criticise as there is lots to be positive about and it could be worse we could follow one of the Manchester clubs.

We ain't going anywhere till our top goal scorer for 8 out of the last nine seasons goal tallies are regularly replaced, Andoni has also not been able to play our top goalscorer for last season, hopefully Hugo can resume his normal service in the new year. You could also make an argument that LFC supersub Divock Origi has yet to be replaced, how many times has he saved a game or got the winner, Danns is a natural finisher about time he got a chance to be the new supersub Origi, otherwise why keep him at the club? outside the penalty box he's pits, inside the box he's a different animal?
A supersub worked for Jurgen, can't see any reasons for Andoni not trying for his own "Divock Origi", along the lines of "if ye don't buy a ticket, ye never win a raffle".

Have you factored in we are playing the best team in league and definitely best defensive team in the world. I thought that was a 50/50. They are so so hard to break down.
01 Nov 2026 18:35:02
Don't give up your day job lad.
{Ed025's Note - yeah a few of them were well too high.. :)
01 Nov 2026 18:40:00
With those scores I don't know what game you were watching.
01 Nov 2026 18:51:05
referee and VAR, " ZERO"
5 PL games at Anfield 1 Win, 2 draws, 2 losses, 5pts from 15 not good enough, no creativity and no guile, ye don't score goals ye don't win, make big mistakes ye lose big games! one loss in the last 6 games.
We lick our wounds and go again?
01 Nov 2026 18:30:46
Harsh, no reactionarily stupid!
01 Nov 2026 20:37:55
Jaquet, Trey and Macca should be higher.
01 Nov 2026 21:10:16
Agree Florian.
I thought Barcola was good and worthy of a six until Trey went off, then we lost our shape and he lost his way. I'd say Iraola was a six as the subs and team shape second half arguably lost us a point, along with the ref of course. Ali wasn't a seven.
01 Nov 2026 20:12:25
haha, love it Ed.
02 Nov 2026 14:30:21
Ed's on one today!? π
Might not be so chirpy later though.
{Ed025's Note - im not on one BR...i just have this terrible habit of telling the truth mate, i think tonight,s game will be a bit of a slog for both teams myself with quite a few cards and im looking at Jolinton and Tarks who could well not finish the game...but who knows i might just be surprised..
02 Nov 2026 16:22:10
I think you'll have your tails up tonight Ed - Newcastle are shocking atm & could be one of the big clubs sucked into a relegation scrap come seasons end?!
{Ed025's Note - but so could we BR...especially with our manager mate..

Couldn't get a more obvious penalty and easier one for VAR to intervene. No doubt the excuse/ defence will be that it wasn't enough to take him down but, unlike potential tripping offences where it can be subjective, this one was as clear as day. No ambiguity, no other players clouding the picture, just a completely clear image of a defender pulling the striker back by his shirt as he's about to head home from 5 yards.
Defender losers his man and probably assumes it's cost his team a goal so hasn't got anything to lose from tugging the shirt (that said, should probably have been a red card review as well). Isak looks for all the world like he's going to nod it in but misses the ball by a whisker, just about the same narrow margin that he lost from the shirt tug.
That's the lowest of low hanging fruits for VAR in terms of an intervention to mark in the "Correct" column. Not a single person would have questioned it if a penalty was given. Inexplicable.
02 Nov 2026 05:58:09
I bet the excuse will be that var didn't interfere because you can't have var "re-reffing" the game.
02 Nov 2026 11:01:52
Timber actually pulled him back 3 different times when the ball went into the box, not once did Isak ask the ref to watch him. Refs are so poor they need help to spot things unfortunately.
01 Nov 2026 19:03:38
The more I watch the penalty incident the more I am furious with Isak. I know he shouldn't have to do anything, there is no excuse for VAR; but why on gods earth does Isak not even raise an eyebrow in protest. It's a major turning point not a mild inconvenience.
01 Nov 2026 19:59:50
Long and short of it, whether we like r not, he should've hit the deck.
01 Nov 2026 22:36:22
Direct your fury at the referee.
Iraola admitted that maybe we'll have to start doing that now and that is a very sad thing to admit.
Arsenal are a horrific reference point for modern football.
02 Nov 2026 05:59:52
I cannot believe that people are now blaming Isak for not going down.
He did EXACTLY what we all have been crying out for. and VAR has failed at its basic duty.
The VAR officials are the only ones at fault here.
02 Nov 2026 10:35:32
I'm not having a go at him not going down.
I'm having a go at him not reacting at all!
You can't complain the refs don't give a foul against you if you don't say there was a foul.
01 Nov 2026 18:28:56
Extremely disappointing for several reasons.
Top players make the difference in these games. We desperately miss real quality in certain positions.
Barcola did very little offensively. Looks a disappointing buy. Isak should have made a whole lot more about his pull.
I'd rather city win the league than this Arsenal side.
01 Nov 2026 19:19:20
Liverpool had 28 touches in the opposition box in the first half. It's the most on record by any side in the opening 45 of a PL game versus Arsenal.
Fenerbahce away, palace away, international break then man United home, we need fortress anfield to return? 29 PL games to go, still a lot of football to be played by all PL sides.
01 Nov 2026 19:32:35
Barcola didn't do too bad. he crossed an amazing ball which Isak should have got on the end of. At times his runs did cause chaos but Yh not 100m worthy.
01 Nov 2026 19:58:39
Did very little in the second half when we needed him. Same as Wirtz and Isak.
01 Nov 2026 22:44:53
This is a new team still under construction. The effort is there. This should be a valuable lesson to take forward. That was 90 mins of s***housery turned up to 200%.
The forwards definitely need to spend more time working with each other between games. The link up is not there.
Macca and Nyoni were good. A brave decision by Iraola to put the kid in by that was warranted.
I probably would have started Rio on the right but can understand matching them up in terms of height.
Concerned about LB. Kerkez is technically lacking for me.
01 Nov 2026 09:08:45
We will beat Arsenal today and we will win the league this season.
In other news I was in my local yesterday (In Manchester) watching the United vs Chelsea game - United fans genuinely discussing that the best thing that could happen to them this season is relegation - they see it as the only way the Glazers will sell up and leave ha.
What a time to be alive.
01 Nov 2026 16:21:28
But would they sell if United were relegated
Commercially, they'd still be a massive player with huge income generation.
If they were relegated and spent multiole seasons in the lower leagues, then i could see them selling.
Glazers are still there because of the huge amount of money that they make out of Man Utd. once that pot dries up. then they'll sell.
01 Nov 2026 09:46:50
Hey Eds and reds,
Anyone know where I can go back to watch recent old matches? Will be missing the games soon and would be good if there is somewhere I can watch them. Open to hearing free or paid options.
01 Nov 2026 10:13:51
Football origin. com is your best bet. LFCTV website sometimes show them back as well but that commentator makes my ears bleed.

Cheers Mancini, those commentators are terrible aha.

I wonder what the odds are of no Manchester clubs in the Premier League next season? Excuse me while I salivate.
