Although formal discussions can't take place a certain experienced Premier League CB known to both Slot and Hughes, has taken positive steps to a summer move, due to their contract expiring.

This signing does not meet the usual criteria for age, however they are an experienced and ball-playing left-sided CB who is highly rated. They will provide suitable cover to VVD next season and giving Leoni considerable time to develop thereafter.

This should be seen as astute business and why Liverpool were only looking at short-term solutions (loans) in January.

Senesi, reported a few weeks back.

04 Feb 2026 15:22:34
You can just say that it is Marcos Senesi.

04 Feb 2026 15:43:04
So what happened to stopping the leaks?

Looks like the plaster isn't holding anymore!

04 Feb 2026 15:49:33
Vagueness personified.

04 Feb 2026 16:16:08
I can't believe they broke your code.

I am not an ITK by any means, but have piecemeal connections to the football world through work. One of which is a previous senior colleague who I ran into two days ago and who is a huge Manchester City fan. He socialises with some ex-players through corporate circles, some of whom are close friends of his now. He's of the view that Pep is likely off this year and the club will push hard for Alonso to replace - they don't feel that Liverpool will be looking to move Slot on.

Not sure if anyone watched the round table conversation that LFC released yesterday, but there does seem to be strong alignment and a good relationship amongst senior officials. Even if this was for show, would be an odd thing to do if the club were seriously considering a change in management at any level.

Aren't they contracted to do these kind of things? Always best to put on a united front regardless of what's happening behind the scenes.

04 Feb 2026 21:41:51
I'm pretty sure that round table conversation was filmed around October/ November, so has no bearing on how things are now.

The Jaquet deal has got me thinking. Lots of people are annoyed that we've "signed" him and won't get him in the squad until the summer. But, 2 things. Firstly, we don't know when the actual cash comes out of our account. This is a pre deal, pretty much, so treat it as a summer signing.

Second, this reminds me of the John Scales deal. We'd sorted that out months before, however that was a time before social media and so many ITKs. The Jaquet deal seems quite normal to me to secure a player with world class potential, regardless of timing.

Does anyone have an update on Harvey Elliot's situation?

It was expected that a deal could be reached that he could play further games this season without triggering an obligation to buy, hence he played a couple of times in January.

That deal never materialized, and now there appears to be a fresh stalemate.
Now only 3 games until obligation kicks in, I believe.

Morning Eds
What's everyone's thoughts on the centre back signing for January.

We appeared to be chasing Guehi all summer, he becomes available for 10m less than we were willing to pay over the summer, since then our centre back options have got even worse.

However we choose not to pay 20m for him and instead invest 60m in a player who while much younger has much less proven record, no prem experience and can't join till the summer when we are currently one injury away from a bit of a disaster at centre half position, just seems mad to me.

Is there any suggestion Guehi didn't want to move to us and we did try or is it as it seems and we chose to let him move without putting in a bid?

Someone should come in to audit Hughes and Edwards in their recruitment process. There is definitely no consistency in their process. Like que sera sera. do as you please, as long as I have some data to back up as excuse. As they say there lies, damn lies and then there is statistics.

04 Feb 2026 17:07:05
Alex YNWA look at the big picture mate yes 60 million sounds like we over paid but we will have the two most rated center backs across Europe we will have Kirkez in his early twenties we have Bradley in his early twenties Gravenberch, Slobz in early twenties Hugo in early twenties so the future looks bright mate.

04 Feb 2026 22:40:42
I don't think Guehi fits the profile of CB we want. He was an opportunistic signing for competition in the squad.

We are going for CBs who are aerially dominant hence the Leoni and Jacquet signings.

Guehi was worth a punt at the price and specifically wages but once the wages became the same as we are paying Virgil he became not value for money. If you're paying a player £300k a week he is a starter and I don't think we ever saw Guehi as a starting CB long term. We'd end up with a very expensive bench warmer and that money is best spent elsewhere.

That's not to mention the issues it gives you when negotiating contracts with other players. If Guehi is on that then I want the same or more.

He just wasn't worth it.

04 Feb 2026 09:25:43
did I just hear our coach say rather play good football more important then winning trophys or hear him wrong? and waiting on this good football 2 happen.

It's been mentioned on here so many times about why teams don't leave players forward when the opposition have corners so was interesting to see what Chelsea did last night in the semi final.
When Arsenal were about to take corners, Chelsea sent a few players sprinting from defence to attack Really gave Arsenal something to think about causing them to send players back to defend.

Will be interesting to see if any other teams try this.

04 Feb 2026 04:32:32
HI ALL,
JUST A THOUGH, I CAN FORSEE A BIG CLEAROUT AGAIN IN THE SUMMER. I CAN FORSEE US GENERATING 200 MILL IN SALES.

MO, VIRGIL, ALLISSON TO NAME A FEW. (THIS WOULD GENERATE SOME MONEY IF SOLD TO SAUDI) HAVE TO RESELL TO RE INVEST.

KONATE MIGHT LEAVE ON A FREE, THEN HE COULD RE SIGN.
THINGS MIGHT CHANGE AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS FATHER. WHEN HE SCORED THE OTHER DAY AND THE WHOLE STADUIM WAS BEHIND HIM.

MACALISTER, I BELIEVE HAS NOT BEEN AT HIS BEST BUT I RECKON THAT IS DUE TO WIRTZ ARRIVAL, AND BEEN DROPPED TO BENCH TO FIT HIM IN, AND HE MAY LEAVE. ASHAME, HE IS A GOOD PLAYER BUT WE WOULD GET A TIDY SUM.

ROBERTSON WILL BE GONE ASHAME HAS BEEN A GREAT SERVANT FOR THE CLUB.

GOMEZ HAS HAD ONE GOOD SEASON AND INJURED REST.

CHIESA, I LIKE ALOT, BUT SLOT DOESN'T. ASHAME PLAYING REGULAR THAN JUST 5 MINUTES A GAME HE COULD BE GREAT.

ENDO, LIKE CHIESA NEEDS MORE PLAYING TIME.

ELLIOT - I LIKE ALOT, BUT SLOT DOESN'T. I THINK YOU can't BE PLAYER OF UNDER 21 TOURNAMENT AND BE CRAP.

TIMIKAS - NOT RATED GOOD ENOUGH.

DO PEOPLE AGREE?

04 Feb 2026 17:03:03
Bloody hell Shipley.

I had to read that a couple. of times before I found it ????

Thought you pulling a fast one to see how many of us idiots would go and look for that word ????.

04 Feb 2026 00:44:44
Alisson, Mama, Young Kid?
Bradley, Gertruida
Kerkez, Beck
VVD (Final year) Jacquet, Leoni, Schlotterback, Lucky
Szobo, Grav, Sidiki, Wharton, McConnell
Ekitike, Isak, Diomande, Barcola, Rio, Frimpong

That's some first team squad and all possible in my eyes,

Sell Salah, Gakpo, MacAllister, Elliot, Endo, Chiesa, Chambers, Danns, and then others will leave like Konate, Robbo, Gomez, and possibly more.
It's a good mix of top talent, young recruits, youth, and established first teamers.

Wirtz? Jones?

Did anyone see the goal against City on Sunday, where Solanke kicks through Guehi, and the goal is awarded.

My question is that if the roles are reversed, and a defender kicks through a striker in the same way, its a pen

So why wasn't that given as a foul?

Agree3

03 Feb 2026 20:33:41
It's quite easy to explain JLC.

The officials are making it up as they go.
That same match players pulled back their opponent/ no yellow card

Other matches - automatic yellow.

04 Feb 2026 08:14:40
I personally thought it was a foul on Solanke if anything. He has full control of the ball and is taking a shot, and Guehi hooks his foot around him but does not touch the ball, he only blocks Solanke from getting to the ball. I can't see a world where that is a foul from the striker. Had Guehi got his whole body in between Solanke and the ball it would be different because then you could argue Guehi had full control of the ball/ situation. At no point was Guehi the player in control of that ball though, and he didn't even get a glancing touch on it until Solanke kicked his foot into the ball.

If you were about to play a pass in midfield and then an opposition player hooked their leg around you from behind, did not touch the ball, but blocked your foot from kicking the ball, you'd get the free kick. If the ball hadn't gone in, Solanke would've been well within his rights to claim a penalty in my opinion. It was just bad defending from Guehi in my opinion.

{Ed025's Note - come on MK you are bigger than that mate, dont get me wrong i get your dislike of City...im not a big fan myself, but lets not just make up stories, it was a foul all day long because Solanke took Guehi,s legs away from under him which forced the ball into the net, if that had been given against Liverpool we would never hear the last of it mate..

04 Feb 2026 09:47:05
Nothing to do with me disliking City Ed025. I wanted City to win because i dislike Arteta! I'm not sure why you think I'm making anything up. I explained exactly what happened. Solanke is in full control of that ball.

I'd genuinely be fuming if that was given as a foul against me on a Sunday. Guehi made the challenge, not Solanke. I promise you there is no agenda behind this opinion, I just don't think that's a foul by Solanke. He's mid shot and Guehi makes a challenge where he misses the ball and obstructs Solanke from playing the ball. I don't see why it is any different to tripping a player who is running, catching the leg they're trying to play the ball with. I'm sorry, it's just not a foul for me.

I'm genuinely baffled how people think that's a foul from Solanke. The facts are he is prevented from playing the ball cleanly by a clumsy tackle from behind that does not touch the ball.

{Ed025's Note - he was prevented from playing the ball because Guehi was between him and the goal MK...and Solanke went right though him mate, for me it was a shocker..

04 Feb 2026 10:04:35
I'd have to agree to disagree Ed025. I just don't think that's a foul from Solanke. He is in control of the ball, and Guehi is the one who initiates the contact by making a challenge. If a player is running with the ball and you step across them, you can't say "well he ran into me". You blocked them getting to the ball and that's considered obstruction. Why is it different if a playing is kicking the ball and you step in front of them? For me, Guehi obstructs Solanke. I'd genuinely lose my head on a Sunday morning if as I was shooting a defender stepped across me without playing the ball and got the free kick because I'd accidentally kicked him trying to play the ball. 100% I'd want a penalty. If Guehi's foot hadn't been kicked onto the ball resulting in a goal, I think a lot of people would be saying VAR should've looked at it to give a penalty. The media just love a drama either way. Refs are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I assure you this is nothing to do with bias though. It's just how I see the situation, and I'll always speak honestly even if I'm the only person who believes it. You've known me long enough on here to know I don't let affiliations or dislikes alter my opinions. I genuinely wanted Man City to win because I really don't want Arsenal to win the league playing such dire football, with such an unlikeable David Brent impersonator in charge!

{Ed025's Note - we will have to agree to disagree on this one MK mate..

03 Feb 2026 17:10:21
Most of the rumours recently were put out as we now know to stop the leaks, everything seems to be back to normal now. It wasn't CJ, that much I know. That won't stop agents and the like talking tho ?.

As VG said the other day, Virg has done a lot of "cleaning up". let's just say there was some cliques forming but that is no longer a case.

Oh and that roundtable meeting was perfectly timed. Don't be fooled by what you see in front of a camera. I for one, don't believe it means Slot is safe.

03 Feb 2026 18:00:40
If we lose against City, Brighton (FA Cup), and Sunderland, not least in the last 16 CL tie, how can he be safe? We'd be out on our arse.

03 Feb 2026 18:25:15
I don't believe anything about that roundtable. I've seen similar roundtables like that before and it never ended well.

03 Feb 2026 20:20:37
Thanks TheFields.

Unfortunately we've been told that you are not an ITK. and that we can't believe what you tell us. OH, and you guys/ girls are clueless

But on a more serious note, thanks for the info mate
I appreciate it, if that means anything anyways, but its always nice to hear from you.

04 Feb 2026 13:23:44
And if we win those 4 games Biggun? He's here till May, people need to get over it.

04 Feb 2026 17:04:41
I saw what you did there FM. you sneaky dog you!

Not stipulating which year of. the May month you were talking about.

03 Feb 2026 16:38:47
As per my stance and understanding throughout, Slot is not going anywhere.

The club moved quickly to back him for next season and the recent Round Table interview with Billy, Richard and Arne is show the united front they have.

Other clubs are not putting the Directors Football in the face of the media and this move by Liverpool hierarchy was well executed.

Also the leaks seem to have been found. Stories of unrest within the dressing room were all false as I stated previously. There is more harmony and belief around the squad with a view that the Champions League was always priority this season.

Time to back our Manager as a fanbase, he is making the right moves to get us playing in the style we want.

Alonso, as it stands, will not be a Liverpool manager in the near future.

Agree4

03 Feb 2026 17:05:46
Will believe that when the next round table shows the players, manager/ coach, staff and the execs sitting around a camp fire, with marshmallows on a stick and singing Kumbaya.

{Ed025's Note - but the scouts have to be there as well JLC.. :)

03 Feb 2026 18:02:14
The roundtable is a sponsor appeaser and was filmed a while ago. It signifies very little.

03 Feb 2026 19:19:10
Jonny -

that's nonsense - prioritising the CL is putting all your eggs in a very small basket! Especially with a squad in transition

Every club puts their domestic campaign at the forefront! Fergie swore by it and the same goes for Pep and even ourselves when we were dominating at home and in Europe - get your league form right first and cup completions fall in around it.

Slot is being backed at this moment in time but a faltering league campaign and a struggle to get automatic CL qualification will see him gone imo.

03 Feb 2026 19:57:39
Why would a round table appease sponsors.

03 Feb 2026 20:02:35
Teams in the CL don't play a low block, hence them prioritizing that competition.

03 Feb 2026 20:04:00
Scouts are too busy finding the next bunch of superstars that we will bye in the 3 transfer windows time Ed.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely JLC..

03 Feb 2026 20:30:41
JLC - of course they do,

Are you expecting teams to come to Anfield in a CL second leg tie with say a one or Two goal lead and not set up a low block.

Prioritising going all the way in the CL to the detriment of a top 4 finish is foolish.
We've had to play against teams with low blocks for donkeys years in the prem - it's not a new tactic and it's up to the coaching staff to combat it.

03 Feb 2026 21:22:23
Low Block is our Kryptonite.

Any coach who doesn't use those tactics against us is clearly out of his depth.
