Heard rumours of klopp with Gerrard as assistant until the summer, then iraola as permanent manager, any truth?

30 Oct 2025 09:01:27
God I hope not. No to either coming back.

@Lennon, if you read the post immediately below this one you’ll see 2here 5he rumour might be coming from.

Anyone but Gerrard.

More chance of B-rod coming back as. a motivational speaker.

I think Gerrard as an assistant would be great. Just not as the manager.

30 Oct 2025 10:54:57
What's the point of Gerrard coming back as assistant? He can't and doesn't coach. He's delegated at every club he's been at.

30 Oct 2025 11:04:28
Wasn't Gerrard a decent youth coach for us in the past though? I agree that he is a poor manager but I thought he would do fine with just a coaching role.

30 Oct 2025 11:49:15
Assistant needs to be able to tell the manager when he’s wrong (so he needs to be pretty sharp tactically) and needs to be able to keep the players together and motivated.

I don’t see Gerrard at being very good at that. I think he’s either quiet or confrontational, but I don’t see him as a “unifying force” or someone the players can easily relate to or confide in.

Now if you want an ex-player from Liverpool who in my opinion will make a great coach/ assistant - James Milner is the man.

Klopp + Milner = good choice.
Klopp + Gerrard = poor choice.

I don’t see Klopp coming back if I’m honest.

Ooof we aren't here yet, surely?

Slot gets the next 3 games to show us that he can turn this around.

We will know pretty quickly if the players are behind him and his ideas or not.

While I think he's made quite a few mistakes, I also feel bad for him as I don't think the recruitment addressed the needs of his preferred system. And I wouldn't underestimate how the events of the summer impacted pre-season. We know what happened when Klopp/ Ljinders decided to lower the intensity of the pre-season in 22/ 23 - we fell off completely and were lucky to grab 5th.

30 Oct 2025 12:07:44
Klopp will not be returning. At least not for the next good few years anyways.

30 Oct 2025 13:07:22
The 22/ 23 fall off was almost entirely down to the fact our midfield had run out of steam and needed reinforcements and replacements, and we failed to act on that due to the false perception that we were “well stocked”. Which we clearly weren’t.

Personally I'd bring back Hejitga as soon as possible in whatever capacity, he's probably going to get the boot at Ajax quite soon.

30 Oct 2025 16:20:02
Hetinga is having an almost identical season to Slot: inconsistent, unbalanced, good attacking options, under pressure, key positions understaffed, poor defensive performance particularly with set pieces, poor tactical set up and performance.

Bottom of the CL table but doing a little better than us in the league.

The similarities are stark so questions would have to be asked if he would improve things with us.

30 Oct 2025 16:47:55
At this point I would even bring back Rafa Benitez and wouldn't mind if Gerard joins his staff in some capacity. Those two could do a good job as a stop gap until Iraola/ whoever gets the job next season.

At least Rafa would make us defensively stronger and secure champions league football given the whole season. Gerrard could also help reminding what means playing for this club.

In any case, time is up for Slot. Someone put him out if his misery before this tuns into a relegation battle.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think i have ever heard a worse idea mate..

30 Oct 2025 22:32:44
The disrespect you blues give Rafa is unbelievable, he’s a top coach ed025, not perfect by all means but he’s definitely up there with some of the best to do it.
Just my opinion though :)

{Ed025's Note - we all have our own views of the fat Spanish waiter Playboi.. :)

31 Oct 2025 00:51:03
Appreciate everything rafa did But football has moved on. How could watch liverpool under klopp and slots 1st season and want rafa back you must not remember how boring it was.

31 Oct 2025 21:28:53
Dare I ask what your opinion of him is Ed025, do you not rate him at all as a manager? I do guess your judgement will be heavily influenced by his tenure on the blue side.

{Ed025's Note - a lot is about how he conducted himself at Everton Playboi but not all of it, i thought the fact that he wanted Barry to replace Alonso was a very strange decision for me (even though Barry was a good player) and i was never a fan of his brand of football, when he came to us i found him obnoxious and our team really boring to watch, yes he never had the greatest players but his insistence on playing his favourites week in week out even though they were poor really cracked the supporters up...hence the "agent Benitez" tag, of course the fact that he once managed the reds and called us a small club never endeared him to our fans mate and it was always going to end in tears..
